The Federal Government has said that Nigerian youths between the ages of 20 and 40 are majorly responsible for the spread of the COVID-19, while the majority of those bearing the brunt are older people from 50 years and above.

The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, said this on Thursday in Abuja at the 48th joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

“As more people are infected across the world, you would have seen the numbers, it is increasingly obvious that transmission among younger people really, not children, but people aged between 20 and 40 as far as we know are really driving the spread of this virus, but those that are bearing the brunt of it are people age 50 and above.

“Three out of five people who died from COVID-19 are 50 and above so we have to work harder, all of us collectively to protect our elderly.

“We are on the verge of opening our airports, we have relaxed Intercity travel. “We know that we have a family-loving people and that over the next few weeks we will all start having this urge to go and visit our parents, our, uncles, our aunts, restart the funeral activities that we have postponed for months, start the weddings, birthing, baptisms that we have postponed for months.

“It is important to do these things and the interstate travel will allow us to do this but remember we haven’t relaxed the guidelines of mass gatherings,” Ihekweazu said.

He said that as the nation plan over the next few weeks or months, citizens have to remember that there are still restrictions on mass gatherings, but that everyone has to show the elderly citizens love and affection by not exposing them to the virus.

This is serious! But my trouble with Nigeria is data unreliability. As far as covid 19 is concerned, Nig copies and pastes from other countries. No decisions of their own.

To say that Nigerians are observing physical distancing, is like saying Arsenal will qualify for champions league.

I think most Nigerians are asymptomatic, it's the testing capacity that makes it look okay. Our immune system is quite better as an ajepako Nigerian compared with our ajebutter cousins in Europe.

Maybe because a lot of Nigerians are used to hard life from suffering and smiling. Most people have been infected, and have recovered without even knowing.

Those people with underlying illnesses or weak immune system are feeling the brunt of the disobedience to laid down protocols.

This age bracket you mentioned are the productive population in Nigeria, who drive the economy by their multiple enterprising skills and productivity. Maybe you will recommend the lockdown of only young Nigerians in your next guidelines. Afterall, they were described as lazy Nigerian youths by Mr. President some time ago. I hope someday you guys in government will admit how old aged Nigerians are spreading corruption too

Most of those between age 20 and 40 are daily hustlers who work hard everyday to eke a living and it will be wrong to overlook the actions of Kyaris of the country to blame the youths who only followed their older leaders.

Unserious government, una do lock down when it was not needed yet . The lock down would have been now and they're scared losing their fellow politicians to the pandemic because they don't care about the common man .

RIP to those who have lost their lives to the pandemic and May God heal those suffering from it currently. Amen.

undecided they have come again. COVID kills both old and young, and both old and young have survived. Who survives and who dies, why they survive and why the others die is what nobody has an undisputable answer for yet. In Florida right now, many of the people falling critically ill from COVID-19 and placed on ventilators are young youths and teens. May God have mercy on me

Protect your mamas and papas people.

It's seems the government is losing control and have low quality data on how this virus is spreading in naija.

Practice safe distancing, use mask, wash your hands, use sanitizers, refrain from touching your faces, do not visit your elderly except it's absolutely necessary e.t.c.
