I guess I should give an update on my journey to encourage someone. I am not a regular contributor and I really don't talk much so most people wouldn't know my story. But seeing that I got some help following this page I have decided to share a few lines on my journey so far. Please manage it as it might not be very coherent.

It has been a long and deliberate journey that started in 2016.

So when my mates were processing in 2016, I was at a disadvantage because i did not have a master's degree. So the first step was to enrol for a Master's programme in Unilag. It had to be part time so I had to wait for 2 years to earn same. Following the trend of scores in 2017 I had envisaged that scores might not be as low as they were then so I started looking for options to make sure I have high enough scores by the time I was done with my Masters programme. So I decided learning french was the route but combining this with a masters programme was going to be tough. So I couldn't immediately start learning french. I eventually started learning french in March 2018.

Let me fast forward here. So I got my ECA done through ICES (took 7 months- 3 months delay from Unilag and ICES took 4 months), wrote IELTS in July 2019 and got LSRW: 8,7.5,7.5,7 (single attempt). Wrote TEF in October 2019 and got LSRW- C1,B1,C1,B2. My CRS score was 403 and i was already planning to rewrite TEF when New Brunswick organized the Information Session in February. Luckily my NOC was listed so I was able to apply and got invited to attend the session. But more importantly, the fact I could speak french coupled with a TEF result played a huge factor in being invited

I eventually got a nomination from New Brunswick early this month and then Federal ITA on Wednesday. The journey is not completed yet but a lot of progress has been made.

I hope someone finds this encouraging and continues to push. Things might not all work out as you are thinking in your head, but hang in there and keep pushing. It will end in praise.

K baba. Congrats

One of the posts above talks about attention to grammar and don't forget to add one or two subjunctive.

For fait divers - add a title, date, newspaper name at the beginning. Make it humourous if possible.

Logical connectors for the first point in your "essay" letter.... in increasing order of complexity...I think.

Drop the simple, overused connectors like 1 to 3...scale up!!

Mama nice one, however, though <<enfin, finalement>> are common, but they are connectors, and the examiner can easily see them. However, these ones can they be referred to as connectors too? Because, they look like a sentence, I think connectors should be short to be effective. Any clarification?

Is it possible? Yes, I think it is. But then again, you have to consider what "pass" means in TEF

Unlike DELF where you write either A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2 and then pass or fail any of these levels, TEF is a singular exam that will place you on the right level based on your performance. In other words, you do not usually fail or pass TEF. The exam only grades you. Whether the outcome is acceptable or not then depends on the level required by the institution requesting for the exam. Canadian immigration is asking for CLB4 if French is presented as a second language. This can be likened to B1 according to the information I got at Alliance Francaise.

So the question is, can you attain B1 in 8 months?

Like I already answered, I believe you can. But that will take some serious dedication. Bearing in mind that your migration to Canada might depend on it should be a good source of motivation. Again, you must engage in personal studies asides class room lectures, make friends with those that speak the language and never give up even when it seems impossible. The last point is very important because there is always that point in foreign language learning where you feel you can't move on or that you are just wasting your time. Pass that stage and success is guaranteed. As they say, the seceret of learning a language is speaking the language. Speak, speak, speak. Even when it sounds horrible. It can only get better.

As for me, I was exposed to French in secondary school. I have been learning on my own since then. I wrote and passed DELF in 2013 cool

Pls what's the cost of this test?.

Donpaps! My understanding (and I may be wrong) is it could be a single word, it could also be a phrase.

If I were an examiner, I would award higher points to outstanding students...... not students whose writing is a copy and paste of hundreds of other scripts I've had to read.

People on this thread are writing TEF to get points to emigrate and potentially change their lives, I would hope they would be putting in their all....which includes trying to differentiate themselves from the pack.

I used them and they worked for me (thank God), so I'm just guessing others might find the "expo" useful grin

Hope this helps!

yes, Maami! What's also your opinion on rephrasing or quoting the title in EE section B, which attracts better marks.

Finally, are you advising I write in an uncommon way for both EE section A & B in order to get uncommon results ?

First question, I didn't quite understand.

Second question, yep! Don't forget the dialectic/argumentative style.

During my practice, I quote and sometimes I reparaphrase the title. Which is better for higher mark?

Also, give me killer connectors for giving examples.

If you are asking about section A, the fait divers, see below. If you are talking about restating the question in the letter, I kept the phrase without paraphrasing it e.g. I stumbled on an article published in the 13th June 2020 edition of your magazine that asked: "is the internet harmful to children?"

https://www.nairaland.com/4672912/all-tef-candidates-canada-immigration/78#85784813

Par exemple, a titre d'exemple, prenons le cas de, en particulier, comme etc I don't have "killer" examples.

Dear All,

Does anyone know if Alliance in Lagos will reopen soon to allow students register and write exam?
Especially for someone planning to write TEF in September/October?

Mamaroon:

First question,

I need an advice from seniors here.
I happen not to be chanced to continue a physical class I have attended, and now thinking of going for prepmyfuture.
I am currently on b1. I would like to know if prepmyfuture will be sufficient for me including my self study.

Mamaroon:

Thank you ma.

Prepmyfuture should be a supplement not a substitute to classes or getting a tutor (my opinion), unless of course you're just looking to brush up. You can get it and do some of the sample tests to assess your level.

Quebec immigration is via a portal called ARRIMA, google quebec arrima, it comes up.

TEF repeats questions.

I have seen an advice you gave someone earlier.
