e author=SSpeter post=91349202]A friend is calling off his wedding plans because he thinks his girlfriend lacks integrity. They have known for about 3years and he has not complained about her to me or any one.

Problem started when he got a call from the bank pleading with him to tell his girlfriend to reverse/return the excess amount credited to her account when she visited the bank to make a deposit into her account. He called his account officer to investigate the issue. The account officer confirmed that she got excess of what she wanted to deposit and she has moved all the funds to another bank.

She used the guy as her next of kin that was how they could contact him. He called his babe who denied initially but reluctantly agreed when he divulged that the bank contacted him. Dude became angry and paused all wedding plans.

The lady s begging and has cried her eyes out...what do you think? can you compromise integrity...?

I got permission to write about this here incase you think xyz and my friend is a Nairalander!

- lack of trust
- dishonesty
- lies/deceit
- theft

these are foundation that someone MUST possess... you cant teach people to be that way. whatever make them come together shouldnt be a reason to dismiss something more important than the above point. you cant force a dishonest person to be honest, no cant do!

she will gain something...aka SENSE!!!!

but your money was returned at the end, right?!

i understand that you've had a bad experience with the banking system, thus you may be against banks... but guess what? somebody will have to pay for the lost money, and it sure wont be the BANK. so it will either be the cashier who made the mistake or better yet, next year the bank will raise their fees so ALL their customers will have to chip in to repay.
The money was not return to me. I was very upset I have to close the account. I open with another Bank.

btw, if i may ask, what was the bank excuse for not returning your money?!

"some" people/actions can be forgiven, but when the person/action is too much then that person should simply be "forgotten/dismissed from your life"

if you forgive anyone without 1st evaluating what they did, then something is wrong somewhere...

right now I can't explain the English words use at the time. It is a very long time. The money is in a proxy account. Due to the error from the Atm.

There we go!

Integrity matters alot.

It takes the bank nothing to give the other bank order to restrict or block funds in her account.

They thought she was an honest person that the issue might be settled amicably.

until its "your" money that is sent by mistakes to a stranger's account, and then you will be singing a different tune and crying like a lil girl to get your hard earned money back. wrong is wrong however desperate and hungry a person may be!
no mind that guy. And the banker that handled that account now will be in trouble on the verge of losing his/her work.

No... It was a cash deposit that she made...you can't just wake up from sleep and tamper with someone's account let alone when the funds is under a different jurisdiction... I understand 90% of people shouting integrity here are only saying so out of fear of getting caught eventually cheesy we don't know the amount involved ...it could be an amount that can be withdrawn in cash from teller machines in 2days before the bank can retrace... Ultimately she abandoned the bank for good and she can't be reported for fraud since there is a staff to be held responsible... Her guts intimidates her fiancee but it turns me on. You see why i said i need to marry her.

how do you reverse what has already left? the best you can do is to lien the account for the excess or entire sum. Now this is the case, what if the customer now claims the cash she gave was what the teller credited and she wrongly filled the deposit slip? teller word vs customer's word..who will win? truth is either way the teller loses. If you want to fight it you need to escalate then you will sanctioned if not dismissed cos most tellers are on contract. now customer can sue you for debiting her account without any instrument. Those days in banking we just call and beg...if the sum is huge we go through details and tty to contact anyone close to the customer. We try to kill the matter in the branch and we try not to inform the operations manager sef..las las you go use your money pay.
lol. You don't really knows how it works. If you over pay, O.Y.O is your case. If you over credit you can reverse from the account. CCTV can come into play and analysis on the deposit instruments on extreme cases.

Those banks are also robbing us, they hardly return the illegal charges on our account.
If you think you can have an angel as a wife, then try and watch your own life and see if you have no fault.

The fact that most of us don't understand is that the money that was either over-paid you or over-credited you when you either withdraw or deposit is hardly the bank's money.

This is because the teller that makes the mistake has two options;
1. To book it as shortage and then try to get the customer return the excess (which many banks encourages on paper, but which anybody in the system knows that it's not advisable if you want to go far in the industry)
2. To pay from your pocket and then follow up with the customer for refund (which most tellers do, so as to have a clean slate especially if the amount is not much)

So next time you are overpaid or overcredited please note that is not the bank or the well paid supervisors that bears the burden , but the underemployed and underpaid staff behind the counter.

Hush puppy Junior. How are you doing? Can you see the nonsense you just typed cheesy and so because people are not perfect you shd be so unperfect you can steal eh.

Let me help you small, you see that money she wants to eat, it's a banker that will pay for it from his salary or her salary. YOU HEAR? Maybe a contract staff earning 70k working 7 to 7 every damn day.

Don't let me curse you with this comment along with those who liked your comment. Stop excusing bad behavior. And don't give us that BS that no one is perfect.

yes you can end it. It's not JUST BECAUSE OF THIS it's beyond just this one action and how it will reflect in other things. You might excuse it, maybe even eat the money with her, Bonne and Clyde them. His life his decision.

A thief and a liar. That one will just bring disgrace to her matrimonial home. He is right in calling it off because she lacks integrity and will likely not change unless she gives her life to Christ and repent genuinely.

Yeah, that she took what is not her's and deny it.

Yes that the young man know the value of integrity.

You must be a yahoo boy, so integrity has no meaning to u

I did not want to reply you at first but on a second thought I decided to.

First, you don't know me, you can't just label me a Yahoo boy or someone who doesn't have intergity.

This guy here has worked as a Teller in a Bank and I remember my brief stay was scandal free to d extent of reporting an overage of almost 10k, even after I left they couldn't trace where it came from and no one ever came to claim it, I could have done as my other colleague and pocket it.

That is just an example out of many, so I have intergity a plenty.

You see, while you and your likes have decided to see an evil in d lady, I decided to see a victim and a person in need of help. It's not unusual in this part of the world to always throw a stone or join d bandwagon to shout "crucify him". We have a penchant of sending these victims to d abyss of condemnation as if it would make any difference.

A very close friend stole my phone, d only phone I ever had to save for months b4 I could buy. He thought I didn't know, I asked him he denied but I knew he did it. I forgave him even without him admitting d guilt and d friendship was even more close than before till I graduated. When I heard he committed an exam malpractice and was given an extra year, I really felt bad for him, I tried to reach him but he went off radar.

(Don't be tempted to think I was also into exam malpractice and d likes. I'm just a guy with a wide arms and a large umbrella for all)

Let me try not to make this a dissertation or a term paper. There must have been a form of affection between these 2 intended couples. Any of them could have made a mistake or displayed a bad attitude during courtship, in this case the lady has, what then do you do as d other party?

Do you jump ship and just leave?

Do you further condemn her actions and punish her?

What happened to giving her the benefit of doubt especially as she has expressed remorse?

What happened to seeing it as a challenge and helping her overcome it if it's a habit?

Must we always throw away the baby with the bath water?

Maybe it's just me, but I choose to see humans as people who continually to make wrong choices and fight battles all tru their lives, I see humans as not perfect beings who need a help per time.

If you love those who only love you, then what good have you done?

If you abandon people in their worst times and low moments then what friend are you?

Without sympathy and empathy what are we?

I won't reply anyone again.

I hear you.. But how come our society is so rotten and corrupt.. Does integrity only matter online... I hope you know that doing business with excess profit and taking advantage of a pandemic is thieving... I can give you numerous examples in the nigerian way... Integrity goes beyond returning someone's handbag. 6 out of 10 persons will only do so out of fear of CCTV and getting caught eventually...3 from the remaining 4 will only feel the handbag is not a big catch... There may just be one true honest person or none...

So what you are saying in essence is that she should not return someone's own hard earned money because the bank also charges indiscriminately.

No one is an angel but integrity is key.
