exclusive: *NEW TISSUE FACTORY DEBUTS, AS AKWA IBOM GOVT REPOSITIONS DAKKADA COTTAGE INDUSTRIES*

A new tissue paper production factory is set to commence test run in Akwa Ibom State soon.

Unlike other Tissue Paper manufacturers, the Dakkada tissue paper factory is unique because of the pulp, which enables the product to be produced from the scratch into different sizes from bamboo.

Similarly, the plastic, pencil and toothpick factories that have been rebranded, are soon going to be back on the shelves in large quantities, following the re-organisation and re-structuring that have taken place in the Dakkada Cottage Industries, formerly known as the AKEES Industrial Park.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Sir Charles Udoh disclosed this when he led members of the State Government Information Management Team to the Cottage Industries at the Itam Industrial Layout, Itu.

He said the Governor Udom Emmanuel decided to remodeled the industrial facility under a private management to ensure more efficiency, productivity and sustainability.

The State Information helmsman said, with efficient business managers running the industry and all necessary facilities put in place by Government, then the sustainable of the industry is assured especially as Bamboo which is the major raw material is available locally in large quantities across the state.

"Of added advantage is the cost effective plan for the industry which has four different factories localized within one complex for shared facilities like power, security and water supply, among others, which reduce to a large extent the overhead costs of the factories,"Sir Udoh emphasized.

"The Dakkada Cottage Industry is one of the low hanging fruits of Government set up with relatively low capital but high economic values based on the limitless opportunities inherent in the business outlet."

The State's Spokesman who expressed satisfaction with the quality of the products churned out by the industry, such as the plastic containers from the plastic factory said, the products have already identified markets and off-takers like the Ibom Paints industry and others, with specific needs for such containers for their products.

Sir Udoh who reiterated that, work at the Industry was hampered by the global COVID-19 Pandemic said, Governor Emmanuel was more committed to bringing on board more industries in line with his job creation and industrialization agenda.

"While the major raw material for the plastic is recycled local plastic materials gathered within and outside the state, with one ingredient, Polypropylene, sourced from Onne in Rivers State, the other three factories, Tissue paper, Toothpick and Pencil all have the local bamboo, growing freely in all parts of the state as their major raw materials".

While commending the management of the Dakkada Cottage Industries for their commitment towards effective running of the outfit, Sir Udoh, intimated that, all products of the industries will be branded for a touch of class, identity and easy reference, especially as the products will be exported to other states of the country.

Conducting the Commissioner for Information and his team round the four factories, the General Manager of the Dakkada Cottage Industries, Tedy Thomson said, the Plastic factory which has a daily production capacity of 2 tons presently on test run, will soon be increased to a daily production capacity of 5 tons of plastics with the arrival of more moulds and other facilities.

Tedy Thomson who said the Tissue paper factory, is the first of its kind in South/South Nigeria stated that, the Dakkada Cottage Industries have the capacity for expansion to provide direct and indirect employments for numerous youths of the State.

Thanks, I appreciate your civility. And , please ,let your people know that the Igbo is not your enemy and we want nothing but the best for Akwa-Cross people. We also have been pushing for the dredging of Ibom port.

Now , to the topic; of course Akwaibom has the potentials to rival any mega city in Africa but brother, let's be honest to ourselves. You and I know Akwaibom fed allocation and what's on ground in term of utilization of these funds. It's heartbrwaking to see how these monies disappear in thin air leaving little in ground.

I am from Anambra and I know Obiano has failed in many aspects but I also understand the state revenue and fed allocation is sshit but Akwaibom has too much money. I will not speak on the earnings of the citizen because I don't have any resources to measure income growth but can I see technical schools? Show me trade school , how the state government is alleviating poverty. I see the industries but that is not enough given the insane amount of fed allocation the state receives
