4. The opportunist. These ones are the worst. Be very careful with them. They have been in Germany for a long time and have their papers. They have a job, car, live alone, and they’re comfortable. They don’t mix up with too many black people and would be the ones to warn you to stay away from Africans.

They pretend like they’re trying to help you, they even offer you to stay at their house when you’re homeless. Then they use you like a slave. A lot of them are closeted homosexuals who take advantage of African guys who are illegal. They do things for you and make you feel like you owe them. When you talk to their victims, you’ll hear stories of attempted rape and maltreatment.

They’re very good at pretending and they brag about what they’ve achieved. They’ll make you feel like they’re the blueprint for success and you should look up to them. They are also the ones to call the police on you and tell the police your secrets. They pretend like they care about you and gather as much information as they can, until you’re no longer useful to them.

A lot of Nigerians who are illegal, especially the footballers, have been victims of this. You’ll hear stories of how the guy tried to touch them at night and when they refused, he kicked them out. He won’t just kick them out, he’ll also tell lies against them and destroy their name, as a way of protecting himself from gossip.
Some of their victims are too ashamed to tell people their story.

Are you asking about chances of studying or chances of working? I don’t know about studies in hospitality. But you can work in a hotel I guess? You can also work in a store or restaurant if you have baking skills. But those are not jobs for which you would be offered a work visa.

About scholarships, I have no idea. Check the student threads, maybe they can offer more information.

5. The Somalis These are refugees from Somalia. There are many of them in Germany and you can find them in almost every city, if not all. They are usually allocated to smaller cities and a few of them are in big cities.

They are the ones the racist Germans look at, to form their view of Africa. They see the Somalis and automatically believe they are a representation of Africa. Poor, uneducated people who need help. The Somalis don’t help the cause either. They are usually lazy, jobless, and don’t integrate.

Even as refugees, they have the opportunity to learn German and take up vocational training (Ausbildung), but many of them would rather depend on Government assistance and get money from the job center every month. You’d see families with 4 kids and they all depend on the government. Some of them do menial jobs and try to contribute to the system, but the majority are lazy.

You will see them in the train or tram, speaking their language very loudly. You’ll also see them fighting each other, getting drunk and being provocative. In most cases, the police would step in. The ones in Berlin would harass people on the street and say offensive words in German, to strangers passing by. A lot of people have learned to ignore them.

They sometimes get attacked in small cities and are often targets of racism. A lot of Germans don’t like them, but they mind their business. You’ll hear them expressing their sentiments among themselves. Some German women have accused them of rape (I cannot validate the stories), but it has made the news.
The Somalis here are the equivalent of Aboki in Nigeria. Except that Aboki in Nigeria, actually hustle and are not lazy.

There are some Somalis who were born in Germany, after their parents moved here as refugees. These ones are usually well integrated, educated, speak good German and have white collar jobs. They mostly have German friends and don’t mix up with other Somalis. They try their best to make a better impression and break out of the stereotype.

6. The black Americans. They have been increasing in numbers here, since Trump became president. Some of them are former American soldiers who settled in Germany, some are students, majority just relocated to Germany to avoid the troubles in America and start over. You will always know them when you see them.

Regardless of how many years they’ve lived in Germany or how well they speak German, they’ll remain as American as possible. They like black people from everywhere and they love being around other black people. They believe we should all stick together and they don’t tolerate racism of any kind. They will call out even the slightest form of racism.
You’ll see them constantly getting the racists together and educating everybody.

Some of them are whitewashed. These ones moved to Europe because they love white people and don’t want to be criticized by the black community. They try to avoid other Americans and they only date white women. They don’t like black women. They think they’re breaking away from stereotypes.
Most of the people in this group are gay. Their decision is based on homophobia in the black community. So they’d rather be around white people who accept them.

The black Americans particularly love Nigerians. They see us as close to their culture and the only Africans who understand them. They also respect us. Thanks to our musicians like Davido and Burna boy. When you meet the black Americans here, you’d always hear them say “Oh I have a Nigerian friend”.

Permit me to add a little bit to the Somalians. The ones here in Minnesota , like to work like crazy, though they procreate a lot. A family of maybe 6/7 can all live in an apartment. They are truly extremely loud and noisy.

They love Nigeria a whole lot. I like them tho but I stay far away from them. Their wahala too much.

7. Africans who hate other Africans. I should have named this group “Africans who hate Nigerians”, but some Nigerians are part of the group. These ones are mostly other Africans, especially from Ghana, Congo, Ivory Coast, who hate Nigerians. I believe they are jealous of us.

They say bad things about us to the Germans and always warn Germans not to trust us. They claim Nigerians always feel like we’re smarter than everyone else. But still, there’s something about Nigerians that make other people interested in us than other Africans. They know it and they hate us for it. If they have a room to rent, they’ll never rent to a Nigerian. They don’t even like to work with us.

I’ve had my own share of criticism and bad mouthing from them. When we’re in the same room and I step out, they immediately tell everybody not to trust me, because I’m Nigerian.
There are Nigerians like this as well. They try to bring down other Africans and block anything that would make them prosper. They want to be the only ones at the table of white people.

Then there are the Ethiopians and Eritreans. These ones hate everybody that is not from their country. They work together and have their own shops, where they only employ their country people. They are also one of the most successful group of Africans in Germany. They are the ones who own restaurants, pharmacies, and beauty stores. They are very good business people and don’t participate in shady activities. A lot of their clients are Germans.

They don’t do gangsta and thug here. Maybe in America but not in Germany. Majority of the black Americans in Germany are educated up to University level and some are even music composers and directors in German orchestra.

8. The mixed race. These ones are mixed with black. Mostly African dad and German mother. A lot of them suffer from identity crisis. They are hard to understand and what the Germans would call “balabala” (someone with a few loose knots in the brain).

You’d be surprised to know that many of them hate black people, even though they are half black. I’ve met many of them who have said to my face, that they don’t like black people.
I went out with some friends and our bartender was a mixed-race girl. She later sat with us to chat and the first thing she said was “I don’t like Africans”. Everybody was silent. I was so embarrassed to hear her say that. Yeah, they are like that.

The thing is, their dad is probably an African (mostly from Ghana or Nigeria), who married or impregnated their German mother for passport. They got the passport and ran away, leaving the kids with the mother. Many of them don’t know their father and have never seen him.
The German mother then raised them to hate black people and Africans, out of bitterness or revenge.

Some of their dads were black American soldiers who met their German mom on a one night stand. The mom got pregnant and the dad had already returned to America. He doesn’t even know he has a child in Germany. I know a few like that.

They have no relationship with their black family and only know their white side. Then they face racism from white people and their white family don’t fully accept them either. So they’re in the middle. That alone can leave a kid troubled. Some of them were raised in foster homes after the government took them from their mother, because of drug addiction.
They don’t understand racism either and don’t know which side to sympathize with.

Some of them eventually educate themselves and accept their black side. They fight against racism and love black people. They are also some of the most wonderful friends you can have. They don’t have the “open eye” or “hustle” attitude of Africans, because they were born and raised in Germany. But they understand, and they love the black community.

I read you can't have dual citizenship with Germany, that you have to renounce your former citizenship to become a German citizen. Was that wrong or it's no longer that way?

The hoteps are a special kind. They are usually black Americans and Jamaicans. They are all about black empowerment and black royalty. They don’t keep white friends and they don’t date white people. Everything around them has to glorify Africa and the ancestors. They are also homophobic and don’t practice Christianity either. If you’re around them and you’re not like them, you’ll be exhausted.

You will mostly see the Americans in Expat Facebook groups, tearing down white supremacy and calling out other black people who are “asleep” about racism. They are obsessed with any news that involves race. Some Germans hate them. They usually try to avoid them and in some cases, find a way to fire them from work. Other white foreigners are uncomfortable around them as well.

You will see the Jamaicans in the African barbershop or restaurant. All they talk about is what the ancestors want and why the black race dying. They blame the black people who date white people, for destroying the black race. Any time I run into them, I always make sure I find an excuse to leave. I tell you, they are exhausting.

“The woke” are more easy going. They just talk about racism and don’t let it slide. But they don’t get into it as much as the hoteps. I like both groups though. They are really fighting the fight and take the bullets for the community. But they don’t know when to take a break and focus on something else. They also police other black people for not doing what “they” are doing.

10. The Aduro. These ones are the bread, butter and knife of Africans in Germany. They are the ones who came here illegally or became illegal and found a way to stay. Some are still illegal. They’re not necessarily refugees.
I call them the bread, because they know how to make money. The butter, because they know how to get what they want. The knife, because they will stab anybody to get what they want.

Many of them are married to white women and some are still searching. Some are gay refugees, who eventually become escorts. Some don’t know what they’re doing or what they want to become. These ones you’ll find in the club, looking for white girls to marry. The white girls already know them by now.

The Nigerians are mostly guys from Imo state and Anambra. You will see them in West Germany, especially Dortmund, Duisburg, Essen and a “few” in Cologne. They don’t like to come to Berlin because there’s no money here. The ones you see in Berlin are the ones who sit in African shop to gossip.
When you see a white girl speaking pidgin, she has been with an Aduro.

They have businesses in Nigeria and they are hustlers. They hate on the students who came with student visas. They always have problems with other black people and they’re always very cautious about their name spreading around.
They are the ones who would advise you to get your papers very fast. They also have a philosophy that you must please the Germans and kiss the white man’s a$$ if you want to succeed.

Don’t even dare talk to them about racism. They believe it is your fault when you experience racism. You should learn to speak German and be grateful you’re in Germany, and do what the Germans say, otherwise the Germans won’t like you. Some of them go to church and they’ll even tell you about the shady business your pastor is into.

They are the ones who would betray other Africans and get other people deported. They’d also get into shady business and use each other as collateral. When the business backfires, they deny you. You are on your own.
In most cases, they have kids with white women, then they finally marry the Nigerian woman they love and bring her to Germany. Then the real fight starts.

So that is it on the “types of black people in Germany”. Feel free to add to the post or criticize it. I tried to keep the list to 10.

My sister, there are lots of threads regarding studying and working in Germany, on Nairaland. There’s even a thread about German work visa and the type of jobs available, including how to apply. You should check for them.

I cannot really tell you how much to budget for traveling to Germany. I don’t know how you intend to come and if you’ll be illegal at some point. That is important when calculating how much money you need. I’d say, just have enough money to pay your rent, bills and food for at least 6 months.

Alright. Thanks for clearing that up. First time I read it, I laughed out loud. Like renouncing naija will be a problem. Except running for political office, there's nothing restricted/beneficial to just citizens.

I find this hypocritical. Are they not the ones who champion for transgender rights and whatnot on social media? Saying if black rights should be upheld so should transgenders' rights. Apparently, from your writeup, it seems most black people are homophobic.
