For your information,there had been Islam in Yoruba land even before Alimi stepped his foot on our soil. Malian traders actually brought Islam to Yoruba nation through commercial activities with the old Oyo empire. This is why Islam is called " Esin Imole" that is religion of the Malians in Yoruba land.

It is wrong to create the impression that the Yorubas were forced to embrace Islam through conquest. What happened in Ilorin was a palace coup and it was successful because Afonja naively trusted Alimi and more importantly because Afonja was a rebel hence he did not have any support (military) from Alaafin when Alimi struck. Alaafin swore to make Afonja's descendants slaves on their soil and he ensured just that.

The only time there was a full blown out war between the Fulanis and the Yorubas was in 1840 ( see the battle of Osogbo) and the Fulanis were ruthlessly defeated.
