This is Huesca celebrating their promotion to La Liga with this picture on their official twitter account. And look closely at this picture. K.Nwakali was among the players captured (if you cannot spot him, I can help you.. lol). I believe he will get his chances in the new season in La Liga. Just gotta keep working ahead of the new season.

Congrats once again Kelechi Nwakali. You came back just in time to return to top tier football. Now you must keep the work on. It is not eureka.

Now we await Simy Nwankwo's quest for Serie A return to be finished in Glory too.

And ofcos we await the fate of Semi Ajayi with West Brom in the Championship AND James Igbekeme with Zaragoza in the La Liga promotion playoffs.

The more Nigerians in the top flight, the merrier. wink

Uzoho - APOEL (Cyprus Protathlima)

Okoye - Sparta Rotterdam (Dutch Eredivisie)

Alampasu - Ventspils (Latvian Virsliga)

My wish is all are starters and the rest will follow. Uzoho is expected to start. Alampasu is growing into a starter for his team. Hopefully Okoye fights his way to the #1 role at Sparta. Mad competition for the Super Eagles Gloves will resume where it left off. grin

Is Uzoho fully fit?

I want you to review what you said about Martia in the bold.

Then you guys will accuse me of bias, what actually is happening is anytime a person does not get euphoric and over hype our players it's defined as bias and prejudice.

But back to Martial he is still very young just 3 years older than Victor. But with 7 years of top flight football experience. He is the modern day forward playing as a winger and or striker indeed what you have now with Rashford, Martial and Greenwood is interchangeable play all can play wing.

These players dont play with everything going through one player as the focal point of all attacks. That is essentially the experience of Victor.

In addition these three players are adapt at striking with both feet and technically astute. That's not a strength of Victor.

But back to Martial 30 EPL games and 17 goals this season and counting and that's why you call inconsistency.

Victor exploits in French League one will not give him any advantage over the existing strikers. He does not bring something different and or better.

This is where Ighalo has an advantage he brings hold up play and physicality with presence when they need to get rough and fight for a result.

What will Victor bring that they don't already have. Is it speed he is not faster than the current first choice three, he is not more technical and you may wish to disagree he is not better.

I remember Falcao very experienced proven and quality striker from the French league, ended up crying like a baby in Manchester United.

He is even better going to Tottenham but his best option if he has not spoiled that option is too quickly go to Napoli.

Going back to Lille with the players they have bought and sold. May see his value drop dramatically because they would have studied his game and he will not have the same support in the team he had this season.

I agree. No space for him at UTD.

Ehen... about happiness. Andy, I will always be excited to see our players playing in the top leagues. And for Nwakali especially, well, I must say I am glad for him. I haven't lost faith in him since his U-17 days. I know there is a proper footballer in that lad. Hardwork and focus just gotta bring it out of him.
Anyway, congrats to him but his comeback work must continue. La Liga no be Segunda.

Cadiz secured promotion as you all know and there is a Nigerian in their ranks. Well, not actually in their first team but in Cadiz B where he is a big regular and sometimes trains with the first team. He also might get a chance in La Liga next season with newly promoted Cadiz.

His name is Saturday Erimuya. A Central defender standing at 1.90m. 22 yrs old (1998 born).

Played once for the first team this season in the Copa Del Rey in December 2019.

The Segunda is very poor financial league as well as low quality.

It is not by any means in the standard or quality of the Championship.

Now we are talking about players playing in leagues that are rated 35+ and many consider it bias and favoritism to talk about players in English league one.

What's shocking if you look at the way Huesca is set up they are poorer than many not just a few league one clubs.

The team is made up of free transfers, loan players and a very few paid transfers. And this dude Nwakali keeps getting talked about here.

I remember years ago l talked about Fred Onyedinma as a prospect and l got dogs abuse and still do from some. This is a player who refused to play for Millwall and voluntarily decided to drop to league one with Wycombe Wanderers. A players who declined transfer offers to QPR and Watford.

But it's considered bias and favoritism towards English origin players on my part by some.

That's naked blatant bigoted double standard and hypocrisy.
This one na lie sha

grin I know you hate K.Nwakali. You have never hidden that so it's fine. And uhmmm... He made Four appearances and might make it five by their final game of inconsequentiality.
Lad was still played despite not being up to par physically compared to his team mates who haven't been as inactive as he was before he joined the club. I would say, "cut the lad some slack" but then I remember... You just don't like K.Nwakali... and you are not alone. Una dey several. Lol... But it's fine. You guys are free to hate. grin I choose to believe in the lad.

And uhmmm, How is Huesca the most mentioned team on the thread? I suppose we have mentioned them here every day of the week for the past one month. cheesy

Celebrating a lad's promotion to La Liga with his team is biting some in the faces here. Lol

We are waiting to also celebrate Simy Nwankwo's promotion to Serie A.
Also, hoping to celebrate that of Semi Ajayi and West Brom if they make it and that of Igbekeme and Zaragoza if they make it.

But no.... This one concerning K.Nwakali is giving them hug concern no thanks to their dislike for the lad.

It is funny how good things are happening to someone they hate on.

This pic below exactly describes the class of people who see a problem with us celebrating a Nigerian player's promotion to La Liga with his team.

Well said. But you need not bother too much about him or others like him. Their reasoning is the major part of what makes this thread quite a comic relief. Looollll grin

Hating on a lad doing his best to rise from his past struggles says less about that lad and more about them. So free them. Joke 'n folly is on them. wink

GoddyOra:

People here talk about nigerian players of championship teams gunning for promotion into the EPL. So discussing and celebrating nigerian players in the segunda gunning for promotion to Laliga is now "naked blatant bigoted double standard and hypocrisy"??

I am relatively new here, but it is crystal clear that you are indeed bias in your general football knowledge with sentiments toward british football. The Championship is to the Spanish Segunda just as the EPL is to the spanish Laliga no matter the financial difference. So bringing the english third tier - league one - to comparison with the Segunda is kinda dumb.

Asisat Oshoala slams CAF over women's Africa Cup of Nations cancellation

Colin Udoh for ESPN

Four-time African woman Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala has delivered a stinging rebuke to the Confederation of African Football for their cancellation of this year's African Women's Cup of Nations.

Africa's football governing body recently announced that the 2020 edition of its premiere women's tournament, which has been held consistently every other year since 1998, would be cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

It is a decision that did not go down well with Barcelona striker Oshoala, who fired off a tweet criticizing the decision, and accusing CAF of dragging the women's game backwards.

She wrote: "Other competitions POSTPONED but AWCON "CANCELLED" thank you once again for making us realize women's football isn't important to you. Congratulations on dragging us back AGAIN. Adios to all the women National teams in Africa, see y'all in 2022 #PrioritizeWomensFootball #NoExcuse"

Following up on that tweet, Oshoala told ESPN: "CAF needs to make sure they prioritize women's football.

"The men's tournament was not cancelled. You can't scrap a continental tournament just like that. I think it is a big slap on our faces to scrap this year's edition.
"It is not looking good. They have always been struggling to get a host nation for the tournament. You cannot be struggling to get a host nation for the Nations Cup, a continental tournament that happens every two years.
"Moving it to 2021 would have been okay. But saying it is going to be cancelled is not. We can't be at this level in 2020, it's a shame.
"We need a proper explanation as to why this decision was taken."

That explanation was offered by Isha Johanssen, chairperson of the CAF Organizing Committee for Women's Football in an audio interview released by CAF, where she also pushed back on claims that the confederation does not prioritize women's football.

Johanssen said: "Women's football means a lot to CAF. We take pride not only in the fact that we have women's football in our calendar but also the fact that we are facing these challenges head on and we are making great strives to change the narrative.
"For the 2020 AWCON there were circumstances beyond our control which made it difficult for CAF to organize it. All options were explored but to no avail.
"First, the withdrawal of Congo meant that we had to look for new hosts. The bid was reopened and we received bids from Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. However both bids lacked the most important document, that document being the letter of support from their respective governments.

"If you can't get a letter of support from your government to host a tournament, it becomes quite complex and problematic that becomes a problem we cannot organise a competition without the guarantee from the government of the country.
"The second point is the outbreak of Covid-19. As you know, this led to the suspension of sporting activities on the continent and indeed around the world.

"Due to that, the qualifiers initially scheduled for April 2020, had to be postponed indefinitely. With women's Afcon being a senior national team competition, we could only schedule matches during the FIFA dates, which were also affected by COVID.
"So the women's calendar was revised which left us with two window opportunities in September and October for the qualifiers.

"Again you have the closure of borders across the continent too, so it was very, very unlikely we would be able to organize matches taking into consideration the travel restrictions.
"It is not a case of taking the easy way out but because of circumstances beyond our control.

"I can assure you I understand how disappointing it can be. But as much as this may come as disappointing news, it is based on the current global situation and nothing to do with another agenda other than the fact that we simply cannot hold the competitions under this abnormal times."
It's not all doom and gloom, as CAF also announced the creation of a Women's Champions League, a decision Oshoala was happy to get behind.
She added: "It is really good because a competition like that keep teams together and it is more exposure for local players.

"It will also help to grow and market women's football across the continent. Even if the federations are not being serious the clubs will have something to aspire to because they have to represent their countries, they will take things seriously and support the local teams, just the way the men's clubs do.
"For me, I think it is a very good one. I understand that only a few countries have proper leagues. But if you don't start, it can't get better. Even if there are only three or four teams, they should just start first. If you don't start something, you can't improve on it

You can say that and you won't be wrong.

But women football don't ring in that much in revenue, it's be foolish to expend scarce resources on a tourney where you'd be struggling to break even, that's it!
