How can you explain the Jan 15 coup without seeing the raging ethnic agenda by just seeing those killed by the coup plotters?

If we ignore the killings of political leaders which did not include any single Igbo politician what of the murder of Maj General Katsina? Why was he targetted for elimination while leaving Gen IIronsi?

Gen Ironsi will later assume full military authority and never even bothered charging the coup plotters to court?

Maj Gen Katsina was the most qualified to head the army as contained in the recommendations made by the outgoing British General. The Yoruba General (can't remember his name) came 2nd and Ironsi a distant 3rd. But Zik being President had the powers to decide and he went for an Igbo man disregarding the recommendations for Katsina who was the highest Sandhurst trained and thorough breed Soldier .Was this not tribalism by Zik?

So when the coup plotters killed Katsina at the time the Yoruba General was in England, no one can dispute the fact that the coup was to install Ironsi as head of state. Also, when you consider that Zik was also convinietly out of the country in far away Haiti, it doesn't take a genius to see that the coup ploters who were majority Igbo, were carrying out an Igbo agenda.

The pogroms can not be excused but when you consider that Igbos in the north, in typical Igbo arrogance fashion, where openly boasting about their new found place in power at the expense of other national leaders, you must agree with me that you got it coming.

I can give you instances of the kind of support Nigeria got from her allies (which included the British gov't)......quite a lot for a country you infer were 'well prepared and well equipped' for the uncivil war, unlike Biafra!

What the writer is essentially saying is that the igbos had minimal contact with the outside world unlike the south westerners, northerners, and the coastal minority (south south’ers) due to them being “Isolated in the dense, wet-woodlands of the Niger delta” - not that they are from Niger-Delta.
