Please I got a 2.7 gpa ... HND .. You guys think I have a chance with Durham College .. Applied already .. I have not served yet ooo .. I am seeing nysc cert in the list of document to submit for Study Permit .. and I don't even have my West African Examinations Council Senior School Certificate .. I only have testimonial from my secondary school .. I need help with steps to take putting all this my fault to consideration .
Yes u av a chance,
but make sure its a PGD or Post Grad. Certificate (PGC) u are applying for in the college, cos anything lesser than that (e.g Diploma, Advance Diploma) shows no career progression
&
also make sure the PGD/PGC program u are going for in the college relates to ur former HND Degree

Well..well..... from my own point of view,.NYSC can count for Work Experience & also If u intend to still come back to Nigeria for job opportunities, political positions etc. U need ur NYSC discharge Cert. ,
but for Study Permit Application, NYSC discharge cert. is not compulsory (I stand to be corrected on this)
.

Ur WAEC online print out would be enough,
What u need is ur HND certificate and Transcript.

U can also attach that ur testimonial.

For all the Steps for ur study visa , visit page 1, there are lot of information there, and if u have question along the line, do ask, u would be responded to..

All da best!!!!

I need your counsel on this decision.

I have two admissions in two different continents. I prefer Canada over Germany. I have Germany admission for winter 2020(October) and Canada for Winter 2021(January).

Do you think I should talk about my Germany admission in my Statement of Purpose or I should just leave it out? Do you think that talking about the Germany admission will increase my study purpose credibility?

I am writing my statement of purpose. What do you think?

Thank you

Hello all, which one would you advise someone go for? A year masters program with unpaid Co-op, or the thesis option which is 20 months. Knowing fully well you'd gain Canadian experience with the Co-op but a year PGWP....

Co-op experience does not count as work experience for PR applications under EE. So are you certain you can sort yourself out within the 1 year PGWP to apply for PR? As in get a job and work long enough to gain points.

A thesis based masters is a better option. You may get TA position/funding and at least you have 3 years PGWP to sort yourself out.

All lies chief... Visa approval is given to who convinces the visa officer beyond doubt. There have been so many approvals for college applicants and masters .. None is seen to be better than the other ...

Thanks

College applicants get approved as much as university applicants.
However, if you have a very good gp, it's advisable to go for a university because the VO might think you chose the college just for the less competitive admission process. But if you have a 3rd class and package your application well, going for a college doesn't mean you can't get approved.

I appreciate

Do not talk about Germany in your Canadian SOP... Focus more on showing you are a genuine student that seeks a foreign education with the laid out plan or path to greater things with your certificate

I didn’t say it’s not necessary, I said it’s not COMPULSORY. If paying tyytiin deposit will not put you in pressure , then you can go ahead to do it.

However the most important thing is to proof to the VO that you have your tuition fee for one year plus CAD10,000 for living expenses available to you.

Nigerians applying for student visa do not need to open an account in Canada. Upload your sponsors statement of account showing the money together with all other necessary financial documents .
well understood , thanks for your valuable response, pls is it necessary to open a domiciliary account for her to transfer tuition fees there or not necessary, ? Or should just use sponsor account only?
My second question is this, do we need to get any letter from her University here in Nigeria cos she has already gotten admission here bf applied as an evidence of what she has been doing after secondary school like no objection letter? My last question is that what type of account can we use? Can we use business account to sponsor her? Though I am planning maybe I should use my joint account with my husband cos that's the only acct that we have good money there worth 23M ,cos I don't have any tangible balance in my salary account, can I provide my employment letter and payslip without the salary account cos no money there but will use the joint account with my husband joint account ,and landed docs . Thanks again and God bless. I will be expecting to hear from you sir

Not really If you have several years of experience in sport management or addiction and mental health. I will guess you don’t. If my guess is right, a PGD in computer science or IT is better than those courses for your visa application and probably job prospects after school.

It is better you waste your Admission application fee than waste your visa stress and application. Canada is not smiling when it comes to student visa for Nigerians. Take your time to do it right if proper planning will increase your visa chances. All the best.

New two-step process to study in Canada in fall 2020
IRCC has released details on how the new two-step study permit process will work for international students.
July 20, 2020 By Shelby Thevenot

Canada released new information this morning on how to obtain a study permit for the fall 2020 academic year.

The coronavirus outbreak has made it difficult for international students to get the documents they usually need for Canadian study permits. The Canadian border is also closed to most international students. Students are only exempt from travel restrictions if their study permits were issued before noon on March 18.

Even then, border officers may refuse entry to exempt international students if their program can be done online.  International students still need to be in Canada for an essential reason. If their courses are offered online and they can study from home, that could make their reason for travelling to Canada “optional” or “discretionary.”

See if you are eligible to study in Canada in fall 2020

However, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is introducing a new two-step approval process that will allow international students to start the semester online without a finalized study permit. Today, the immigration department unveiled new instructions for its officers on how to proceed with the temporary changes.

IRCC stated last week it is aiming to process complete study permit applications that have already been submitted as quickly as possible.

Students who want to take advantage of the temporary two-step process have until September 15 to apply for their study permit.

How to obtain a study permit for fall 2020
The first stage is much like the regular study-permit process. International students have to submit:

letter of acceptance;
Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (for Quebec students only);
proof of funds;
proof that they can leave Canada when they no longer have legal temporary or permanent status; and
any family ties to Canada.
Immigration officers will assess these applications and issue pre-approval at their discretion. International students can begin studying at this stage.

To get the full study permit, and eventually be able to travel to Canada, international students will need to submit:

Immigration medical examination
Security-Police certificates
Biometrics
Regular requirements for Student Direct Stream
International students who are applying under the Student Direct Stream (SDS) are only eligible for the expedited study-permit program if they can submit a full application. Otherwise, they have to apply under the regular process or wait until they are able to supply all the necessary documents to be eligible for the SDS. IRCC also says that there may be delays.

The SDS aims to process study permits in 20 days. Currently, international students are eligible if they are from the following seven countries: China, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Philippines, Senegal and Vietnam.

Online study is now eligible for Post-Graduation Work Permit
The full study permit is needed if students want to complete their program in Canada, and eventually apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) to work in the country after they graduate.

IRCC previously changed the eligibility requirements for the PGWP as designated learning institutions changed their in-class programs to online. International students will now be able to do to half of their program online and still be eligible for the work permit that could allow them to stay in Canada for at least three more years.

The PGWP is important because it enables international students to get the Canadian work experience they often need to become eligible for Canadian permanent residence. Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are among numerous immigration pathways available to international students who complete their studies in Canada and get qualifying work experience.

But if I decided to apply for a program that relates to what I studied for my HND , Can I switch when I get to Canada .. I need to know ooo because I cannot Waste tuition fee ooo ...

Well as regards what u said about the app. fee, sorry u might be right and the funny thing is u might even likely get Admission ,
BUT
the main challenge is when u want to apply for a Study Visa, submitting a Letter of Acceptance with either of the Programs (Sport Biz/Addiction and Mental Health) u won't be able to convince the Visa Officer on ur Purpose of Visit , cos ur Computer Sci. Background is no way related to those two courses u applied for.

So u would need to apply for a course that relates to ur program for Career Progression.

My own suggestion if u might like it,:

With ur Computer Science Background, Why not check out this program

Mobile Application Development - Graduate Certificate (MAPD) at Cambrian College, Sudbury, ONTARIO

https://cambriancollege.ca/programs/mobile-application-development/

https://catalog.cambriancollege.ca/mapd/

And Application Fee is waived for International students I.E u don't av to pay an Application Fee

You apply for visa .. But if you are looking at staying back after your studies, I advise you apply to at least 2yrs program which grants you a 3yrs PGWP.. But if your plans are to study and return to Nigeria, a 1 yr program is okay
