The issue is not the traders but the management or lack thereof. The traders can stay as long as they not encroach onto the passageway. In addition, the government must establishment after hour activities. When all traders have gone home, the area must be swept and all the rubbish cleared. If the Douglas road with its activities were in hands of people with brain, the place with very handy for shoppers. [/quo
Your opinion is valid but I don't think it's sustainable, our people are quite very stubborn, it will require non-humane posture to achieve that.

This is the point of failure in stream of thought owned by Africans. The misguided presumption of what our people are or had been. Change is very constant in human nature and we must be engineered to adopt.

Consultants 'report ' II determine usage or otherwise of 2 Imo flyovers- Nwosu

By Jennifer John

Imo State Government has disclosed said its final decision on the usage or otherwise of the two flyovers in the state would depend on the outcome of their evaluation by the initial consultants/contractors who started the projects.

The state Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu disclosed this in Owerri at the weekend in an interview with newsmen.

He recalled that he was the Commissioner for Works during Ohakim administration when the flyovers were designed with high standard, before Okorocha took over and did what he thought was the best.

"I was the Commissioner for Works when the Flyover project started, then we retained the services of a very competent consultants and engineer.

The contractor, Recon Engineering was one of the best and competent. They could match Julius Berger in terms of quality. They did a very wonderful work at the initial stage of the project, before Okorocha came and felt otherwise".

Nwosu also explained the import of the Memorandum of understanding ( MoU) signed between the state government and Julius Berger.

He said the MoU entails that Julius Berger should look at the design of Owerri- Orlu and Owerri -Okigwe and redesign if necessary, after which officials of the company will sit down with the government and discuss on terms.

He said the government was able to attract the company due to the dealings of the governor with the company as a private businessman.

He gave the distances of the roads to be Owerri-Orlu , 34 Kilometers and Owerri- Okigwe, 54 kilometers.

On the tunnels, the Commissioner disclosed that the one at House of Assembly junction which had been demolished had serious cracks and posed serious danger to the safety of Imolites and all the road users.

He said the second tunnel at the Concorde Hotel junction could be reinforced, since it has no cracks and not as bad as the other.

The Commissioner said government was construncting strategic roads and drainage projects in the state, which was aimed at providing a permanent solution to the hydra- headed problem of flooding in the state.

Nwosu advised Imolites to be patient with the government, because, according to him, the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma was passionate to bequeath a lasting legacy to the state.

My brother, that's why I said he is correct. High-rise buildings are the way out and we have people with the capital to invest in it. But, issue is electricity

Geometric power plant is located in Abia state and supplies electricity to the state. If not for sheet greed and wickedness on the part of Emeka Offor, what stops him from accepting that Geometric powers Imo also, while he focuses on his distribution? (Emeka Offor is the owner of EEDC)

In his wickedness, he'll rather not supply electricity and yet bill people for it, than supply electricity and be paid for it. I don't know how someone will do that to his own people.

He even had a legal action with Geometric when they tried supplying to Abia state, even when he knew he couldn't do it. I don't get it.

There are communities in Jos with up to 20hours constant electricity. This electricity is generated by the mining industries there and the communities pay for it.

Geometric Power Plant in Abia state is ready to generate enough electricity for both Abia and Imo states conveniently while we pay for it. However, the distribution is under EEDC and they prefer not to distribute electricity at all and yet charge people through estimated billings, hence their refusal to allow Geometric supply.

I don't even know if there is any area under EEDC with prepaid meter. I just don't get it. Emeka Offor has to for once, put his greed aside and think about what is best for his people.

I blame Goodluck Jonathan for all this and hope the wrong choice he made in the electricity sector haunt him this night.

#ImoWillBeBetter#

Sir Offor is doing hiss best. there is light everyday approx 18hrs a day...

Poor you. It’s not only people of Imo state that pass through, or live, in Owerri.

The flyovers will never collapse unless vehicles ply on them.

Why deny Owellle now?
You and others like you from Owerri clapped: “Owelle mere yaaa,” when the flyovers and tunnels, Federal Police and Prisons Hqtrs and six inland roads clustered together, were being built by Owelle in Owerri with federal allocations of the 27 local government areas of Imo state; federal allocations that should have gone for providing basic social amenities, including roads and drainage gutters and running water, in the local government areas. You pretended you didn’t see the decadence in Okigwe and Orlu areas then.

Folks like you have already started to demand that gov Uzodinma build skyscrapers in Owerri. What do you people interpret state capital to be?

Greedy and most primitive folks like you have been working for long to make Orlu and Okigwe dry up and possibly go to extinction.

Traders continued to encroach the rehabilitated Douglas road

Looking at these pictures one would easily understand the big difference between Okorocha and average politician in road detailing. There has always been argument about solidity but I always insisted I liked his type of finishings which is what other Governors see abroad but prefer this black and white stripes on pavements.

I believe Douglas road is not yet completed for now. Those traders must be evicted and trees planted by the side or artificial fountains installed to beautify the environment. The traders should be forced to other towns outside the city.

Rather you are the one being paid. Owerri and entire Imo State witnessed massive development in basically every sector and there was clear prospect of brighter future until Ihedioha took over and started destroying physical developments then abandoning ongoing projects as well as refusing to maintain already completed ones that needed minor maintenance.

If you knew me you would know I stand to gain nothing from any politician cause I made money early in life enough to sustain my next generation. My concern is only a better Nigeria for them

Nope.
No way.

Not saying anyone can't be rich, but....
Rabid asslickers such as you can never be rich. You have no better survival skill than ilachasi otele grin

Licking Rochas' ass was the ultimate thing for you, that you haven't recovered since he and his family were booted out from government house.

A truly independent man won't get bothered with the way you have been since your paymaster left.
Finally, nobody gives a flying damn if you even own half of Imo or Rivers State. But of course, you don't.

Not saying I don't enjoy your jonsing posts here though grin

In developed countries, the workers perform both day and night shifts. There are motorized sweepers that can be employed to keep the place clean at night. There are large, medium and small dump trucks as well as front loaders in the same size ranges. The so-called leaders in shithole called Nigeria have refused to think broadly. Instead the fools concentrate on the size of their loots.

EDDC supplies power to an entire region, and power situation is better reported per community not even state. The reason is that two communities in the same local government area may have different power sources.

So, the ideal thing is to mention where you live or have been to and how power is supplied in those places. As far as Enugu is concerned, power is still epileptic in many parts of the state. They cannot boast of 12 hours per day.

I know of some part of imo that gets steady light
Places like, ceo quaters, Concord boulevard, justice oputa close, area N in world bank
There is mostly light
So I would say the supply varies depending on wether you are connected to federal or state line. But since most part of the state is in darkness

Even the one demolished was not showing any crack as claimed here, let them ensure that it is replaced. Government is for people not for tussle, any grudges with Rochas should be settled outside the government. Don't use people's mandate to fight your personal war. Government should be for continuity no matter what the case may be.

When Rochas took over he completed all Ohakim projects and did not destroy anyone, if there is claim of crack the best thing to do is to reinforce or renovate instead of destroying in entirety. To my personal opinion, Rochas achieved wonderfully well in Imo state and I don't think the way things are going Uzodimma can match him. Only offence Rochas committed was to belong to APC and failed to spend and award contract recklessly to imo political criminals. Had it been he did so he wouldn't have achieved what he achieved today. Look at what is happening in NDDC today.

I'm happy for this present government and pray that they do well, but first and foremost I will advise that they should stop any form of destruction and ensure that all uncompleted projects of the past administrations (Rochas and Ihedioha) are completed and new ones built. Let them replace the demolished tunnel, complete the multi-storey car park at Douglas road, complete the diasporan city, reopen the two flyovers and the remaining tunnels, reopen all the higher institutions closed by Ihedioha, complete Owerri-Okigwe highway, rehabilitate Owerri-Orlu highway, complete all the uncompleted dual carriage roads in Orlu, build 8 more new dual carriage roads in Orlu and Okigwe to connect nearby communities and expand the two cities, redesign Owerri drainage system and complete Orlu's own against the agitation of the host community, continue with the job creation policy of Owelle Rochas and reintroduce the free education policy to help the less privileged in the society.
