The poor man and the rich man both enjoy sex.

Doesn't matter if they can afford the consequences or the strings that come attached with the deed.

Sup guys. I've something that have always earned the acme of my discountenance. And that's how men crudely jump into marriage in other to conform to societal dictate or for some selfish satisfaction.
This have gotten me pensive and I'll make no ado in getting to the nucleus of the issue.

Yesterday, I was headed toward gwarimpa, and on my way I noticed a disheveled young guy around Efab estate trekking by the express.
As a rule, I always give such guys 'lift,' because i was once with a female colleague in a lonely path that seldom have cars coming our way, suddenly one private car stopped and when I tried entering after my female colleague boarded, the SIMPson bounced me out and zoomed off with an empty back seat.

That incident birthed in me a sense of solidarity and understanding of what men go through just for being men, but yesterday, I was so incensed by a botch job my mechanic did that I drove past. After about 4 hours when I had everything sorted and was heading back, I saw the same guy heading toward my direction again(it's a dual carriage way) and he was sweating profusely, so I beckoned on him to enter. We got talking and I inquired why he's trekking such a long distance. He said: he went to look for a job that wasn't successful and he's going back to Arab road.
But this is just a miniscule of the guy's travail. He grew up in abject poverty. In fact, they gave birth to him and his sister in an uncompleted building. His dad died in that building, his sister got pregnant for some riffraff and they started what we call "abuja marriage", his mom subsequently fell sick and died in the same uncompleted building. Then the owner of the building decided to complete it, and drove him away.

Now, this guy was able to get another uncompleted building to stay, and as I'm typing this, he's with wife and kids. This is a person that don't have food at home and can not afford N150 to and fro.

I gave him 10k but I was so mad with him; I mean, I was disconcertingly appalled that this guy will think of marriage in his privation. Why not be a little bit comfortable before considering marriage, instead to face life with the dignity of a breadline.

Sadly, this is the same mistake lot of guy's have been making thinking they'll fall into some stupendous money as soon as they marry, and this is mostly perpetuated by religious charlatans who say; a man's destiny is predicated on his future wife, that as soon as he gets married, the special blessing tied to marriage will start opening way for him.

That's a mendacious twaddle that will leave you in a precarious situation. Please guys, have 'comfort' afoot before you dabble into marriage.

What's your take on this?

In as much as I agree with your position, I have learned that you cannot win such battles with Nigerian youths. People believe in having children no matter what and an interesting conclusion would be "God who created the mouth would make provisions on what the mouth will feed on".

Marriage is a beautiful thing, especially if you have a right partner but I think it's wickedness to bring children to this world that you can't take care of. What's the purpose of having children early and they all turn to cultist, Agbero, Awawa, etc.
Another problem is most people have too much kids. As bad as Nigeria his, if husband and wife has a combined household monthly income of 200k Naira, they can perfectly feed themselves with 2 kids. There won't be any flexing though.

Lol. Baba, when i was coming up as a lad. I had a clique with so much ambition. The brightest and most handsome among us jumped into marriage with nothing palpable to sustain him.

Now, he's a shadow of himself subsisting on the magnanimity of our group and the little he can muster for himself. When I look at him now, I begin to wonder if he's the same bright lad that earned our awe and we looked up to. The dude is looking like my father now. Quite painful, because he profligates also(not wise with money).

Planning is the key. You're on point, bro.
Take it easy with the grammar Bro. The man you helped knows no better. His life revolves around that uncompleted building, no dream, no ambition. If he's not careful he'll die in the uncompleted building. Life has simply been unfair to him and he probably needs a divine helper at this point.

Not everyone who marries plunges into poverty, some women bring their special innovation, business ideas, good fortune to a man.

Poor people often make that mistake. It's almost like they find solace in the thought that even in their misery, they have something they "own" or have "achieved", which is that poverty-battered woman and child(ren) that they've deliberately ushered into their world of lack and colossal suffering.

Even if you want to believe a stupid gamble that's stacked against you 10-to-1 that marriage will automatically open doors for your financial breakthrough, why not put off giving birth until those "hoped-for" breakthroughs begin rolling in? I've never seen a poor couple who stayed without having kids 3 years post-marriage, except the lady hasn't just been able to take in naturally. People of means sometimes decide to stay 3-5 years after marriage just to enjoy the companionship of each other before deciding to give birth; but for the poor, it's like a curse (and na them born pass sef). I won't even be surprised if they don't know what family planning is, and that it's cheap, and even free in some healthcare centers.

God give them children to compensate their lack n hence putting smile on their face. That’s why the Bible said Many are the children of the desolate....

I so much concur to your point.....
You are born into a poor family is 1:0
You're now a Nigerian 2:0
You're now the first born 3:0
And you're a male 4:0
You can still Ballance the equation 4:6
(Only if you think strategies & make sure you put God first family next B4 thinking of settling down)

Life is never black and white, there are many grey areas.
Some marriages actually bring good fortune in terms of opportunities, but that's usually when you get married to someone from a higher social class, or at least someone with vision and ambition, not a chronic liability.

That's rare, most women see it as an insult to consider marrying a man who isn't socially and economically higher than than her.

It is only on NL I read this. MOST Nigerians are fcking broke. Men and women. Our population is doubling. People living and fcking in one rooms that they never open the windows because of mosquito.

Once I login to NL, headquarters of millionaires, I start reading how MOST women do not marry men who are not economically or socially high(er). Only on social media.

Let me put it in a more decent way

If you know your family does not have enough and you are the one to break the jinx of poverty, I mean, you decided not to inherit poverty and bestow it on your children, then, don't go into marriage when you are not ready, when you are still trying to get a hold on your feet...

See, being successful in Nigeria is hard enough for one person, adding a companion and birthing a youngling in such state compounds one's problem. It will be a perpetual poverty as the op noted, find your means first, have a stable life before saying you want to marry.
Don't marry in poverty, don't you pity your children?

Jeez, I feel like crying while writing this

I think 3 things are available for people
1. Sleep
Expectedly, without sickness, every human being( rich or poor) can sleep
2. Sex
Sex is always available for both the rich and poor. No matter how poor are you, will will always find a lady to sleep with. Now, the question of what type of lady is another thing.
3.Food
No matter how poor you are can always fine food. It could depend on the quality of food you can afford...
No matter how poor, you can get job as security officer, bricklayer, farming.
Now my point.
Poor people see sex and marriage as a way to be Happy.
I don't like that mentality though

Why are you guys blaming the young man, is he not some lady that accepted him to be her husband. Does the lady not have parents or relatives who supported her to go on with him?
The wife and the kids are not his problem but his inability to get hooked with something before settling down. So, if one is dragged in my the life's web, he should wait till when he is off it and settle down then. Who knows what tomorrow brings? We all live by hope and the hope if structured well leads us get something substantial. Back to marriage, though society demands one should get married at some point in their lives, the truth of the matter is that we must bring someone here before we leave. I know many people that are not married that can not feed themselves. Life woes come to everyone in one way or to other. I encourage people to marry and procreate and leave a legacy behind. He who must die must die regardless of whether married or not.
When we reach the age of walking as babies, we start walking...
When we reach age of running, we walk too
In the same manner, when we get to the age of marrying, we must marry and fulfill our destiny
That is how it is in Africa.

Nonsense. Were your grand parents paying tithe. Must you pay tithe into a certain ministry because your parents and grand parents pay tithe into that ministry before you get rich. And who told you that the tithe of your parents will make you rich. Don't vomit your rubbish into this thread please.

OP, to your post. I had similar conversation with some colleagues the other day. I told them everyone would never be rich, average sef. Rich is me going far. These people would also seek companionship, love and children. No one can deny them that. Where I have problem is how they keep giving birth. I hate seeing hungry kids and it annoys me when I see them. I feel like giving their parents better sliding tackle.

But then, that is the way life is. If you encounter such people, help in your own little way. They always find a way to survive...

Op did a good thing by giving that man 10k but ... You didn't help him..because you have come here to gloat in my humble opinion .. Now if you are married ... You can never talk from your heard space presently because you have no clue about what a man is when he is married ... And you don't know what situation he was at the point of marriage after all he was on his way back from a job interview or something ... So he is not vision less ...condition and situation happens to the best of us..it is when you are looking up you really see the ugliness of humanity looking down on you ... Many mufukas commenting are commenting on a topic they know nothing about they just jerkoff to the thought that it is not them ..if you really cared ... You will help the man secure what he was after when you met him ...a job.. And keep your good samaritanism to your self .. The bible says what your right hand is doing don't let your left hand know ... You have collected your reward already be that as you have added the volume to the max...
