Nice one

Local man just dey wonder why we can't boast of 24hrs power supply

Local man should know that we have stable 24 hours electricity since 2015, when we followed Fashola’s advice to vote out PDP and Jonathan for APC and Buhari.
Or you are doubting the integrity of Buhari, Fashola and APC to deliver their campaign promises of five years ago grin
Re: The Kainji Dam In Pictures by vioment: 4:56am On Jul 27, 2020
No wonder we no get light.

It is a small dam for Nigeria. Moreover, that river should be used for vegetation or transportation. We should invest in other forms of electricity.

Wonderful and educative piece. Thanks OP. The pics are breathtaking

But FG should at least help install the additional 4 turbines so that we can have access to more power.

I don't understand how water is use to generate electricity

I can't seem to understand at all

Can someone please explain, how can a body of water generate electricity

To generate electricity, you spin an electricity generating turbine which is basically a large mass of wound copper wire sitting in the middle of a Large magnet. Spin the mass of copper in that magnetic field and you generate electric current.

Virtually all forms of power generation with the exception of Solar power is basically u getting a big electricity generating turbine to spin by harnessing the power of different things

For example

Nuclear power stations generate electricity by harnessing the heat energy generated from nuclear fission to generate electricity

With that being said a dam generates electricity by using water Moving through it to spin large electricity generating turbines at the base of the dam.

Even waste can be used to generate electricity.

Maybe we should just tryout nuclear energy as another option for generating electricity
Yes bro, 8 were installed wen constructed, but only 5 were presently working, 3 of dem have been faulty and not repair. I've been to d site once around 2012 on exploring tour

its no big deal..the pressure from the water flow is channeled through a turbine inlet, this causes the turbine to swirl or turn in a specified direction(maybe clockwise).. so the turbine itself is attached to an alternator through a shaft, which definitely moves the alternator and then generates the actual electricity..our household generating set works in same principle..it makes use of the combustion power(fuel) from the mechanical portion, to turn around the alternator attached to it at a specified high speed...

Re: The Kainji Dam In Pictures by TOPCRUISE(m): 8:43am On Jul 27, 2020
Reason why the 4 turbines are not yet installed could be attributed to corruption or kick backs from government

Put the water under pressure by gravity and narrowing the gateway, then let it turn the turbine and drive the alternator. Assuming, Nigerian communities are in order, there are communities that has river with enough potential to power there community. We are under utitilizing our resources as a nation.

Chief, Dam also serves other purposes like providing water for irrigation, water works ( for drinking) impounding water for raising fish and other aquatic life as well as of course preventing massive flooding during return periods of rainfall.
Truth is many of the advanced countires you referred to still make use of Dam technology.
Without going too far, Egypt and Ethiopia are about going to war because of a dam Ehtiopia is contructing on the Nile.
So the issue here is are we utilizing our dam optimally?

Like a black man like you would have done any better if you had the power adn resources to colonize a continent.

Actually, you self-hating, ignorant donkey drowning in inferiority complex, black Africans DID 'colonize' the entire world in history, and DID bring civilization to many lands, rather than looting, enslaving and exploiting those lands.

Most recently was the civilizing influence of the Moors, black Africans from West Africa who brought leadership, learning and education to Europe during its 'Dark Ages', a 500 year intervention that led to the European Renaissance, which led to the Industrial revolution.

I know you have no clue of this history, but the Europeans do, as shown by the numerous statues in honour of the black Moors existing till date, and numerous family crests of modern aristocratic European families honouring their black Moorish forbears.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, it was ancient Africans that brought civilization to Spain and large parts of Europe and not the other way around.

The first civilization of Europe was established on the Greek island of Crete in 1700 BC and the Greeks were primarily civilized by the Black Africans of the Nile Valley. When history is taught in the West, the period called the “Middle Ages” is generally referred to as the “Dark Ages,” and depicted as the period during which civilization in general, including the arts and sciences, laid somewhat idle. This was certainly true for Europeans, but not for Africans.

Renowned historian, Cheikh Anta Diop, explains how during the Middle Ages, the great empires of the world were Black empires, and the educational and cultural centers of the world were predominately African. Moreover, during that period, it was the Europeans who were the lawless barbarians.

After the collapse of the Roman Empire multitudes of white warring tribes from the Caucasus were pushed into Western Europe by the invading Huns. The Moors invaded Spanish shores in 711 AD and African Muslims literally civilized the wild, white tribes from the Caucus. The Moors eventually ruled over Spain, Portugal, North Africa and southern France for over seven hundred years.

You can't even develop your own country ruled by your own people, but expect other who conquered you to do it. Victim mentality.

Oh, Nigeria IS developing, far faster than it was under colonial inertia. No road led to your village before 1960. Just footpaths. Today you can drive there. No power plants existed before 1960. Your grandparents used ONLY palm oil lamps. No major hospitals or roads were in existence, and not a single university. Today we have 200 universities courtesy of black rule.

Without Nigerian independence you would be an illiterate village peasant just like your grandparents were under colonialism. At independence, illiteracy was 95% after 63 years of white rule. Meaning there was near-zero investment in education by the colonial thieves. Today that figure is down to 24% thanks to black rule, and investment in mass education.

If you had a working brain in your tiny dumb, self-hating, colonised head, you would thank God everyday for the independence and BLACK RULE that allowed you to become educated and even know what it means to ''develop'', you ignorant little donkey.

I see you're still here on Nairaland after all these years peddling your misinformation. The Moors were neither "black Africans", nor were they West Africans. They did enslave West Africans and many West Africans were slaves in the Iberian Caliphate ruled by Moorish invaders (till today, Berbers in Mauritania still retain black African slaves). The Moors were a loose-knit Berber group, native to the Maghreb region of Africa who were Islamized/Arabized by Arab invasions and acculturation, and they became subjects of the Arab Umayyad Caliphate who would conquer parts of the Iberian Peninsula. The Umayyads conquered the Iberian Peninsula using Moors as their footsoldiers. But the Moors would later assume independent control of an independent Emirate after the Abbasids overthrew the Umayyads. To claim the Moors were black or West Africans (who were actual colonial and slave victims of Moors) is profoundly ignorant.

The notion that the Moors brought learning and education to " wild, white tribes" of Europe is also nonsensical and laughable. The Iberian peninsula and Sicily (also conquered by Moors) were historic civilizations with thousands of years of civilized history and old subjects of the Romans. Their citizens were literate and skilled in the the knowledge and arts of the time. The Moors brought their own influence (which borrowed heavily from Arab culture) which can be seen in historic arts and architecture in the region today, but that doesn't mean the natives of those areas didn't have their own well-formed culture.

There's so much other misinformed guff there, I don't even want to waste more of my time debunking them. Maybe you should pay a little less attention to Afrocentrist revisionist charlatans and kooks.
