ok then

Doc, I need your help/advice. I recently discovered that distant things seem blurry. Like its difficult to recognize faces from afar as they also seem blurry and even notice boards that are a little far off. But I noticed one thing, sometimes the vision feels better (clearer than other times). Eg its usually worse in the evenings and when I press phone for like 30 minutes...although the difference is not so major. I dont have any major health issues. Please should I be concerned.

of course you should be concerned and schedule fr an eye exam. It could be a refractive error that requires glasses or even more serious problem like glaucoma. it's necessary you have it examined

Hello Optm,

Thanks for your replies all along. It is much appreciated.

The report says all is fine and the diagrams look normal, compared to the ones i have researched online. I will be taking the result to go see the consulting doctor at General Hospital, CMS, on Monday. Please find a copy of my scanned report attached. I will take it off as soon as you respond.

But i am wondering, doesn't a B-scan detect retinal tear? The flashes havent stopped entirely, but the frequency and area has reduced slightly. I am getting quite relieved now and know and believe i will be entirely fine, by God's grace.

My vision is still quite blurry and i was told that my optic nerve is inflammed (Optical neuritis), so i was given a steroid (Prednisolone) to relax it. I was told to take 4 tablets every morning for 1 week, 3 tablets the following week, 2 and 1 tablets the following weeks.

Let me know what you think, sir.

Thanks!

Hello Docs in the house,

Sincere appreciation to y'all for your selfless support and contributions on here. God bless you all.

Sequel to the above quoted post i made in February last year about the flashes of light i was seeing in my left eye after a blunt trauma i suffered in January same last year.

Since the B-scan i did at the time indicated that my retina wasnt getting detached, i was placed on some drugs and the flashes reduced for sometime.

But early this year, the flashes increased in frequency a little. It was more significant in the dark, and when i close my eyes to sleep, i keep seeing movements in the eye. Plus, when i look at a uniformly coloured surface (such as the wall) and move my eyeball to the left and right quickly, i keep seeing this bright streak of light to the left of my eye. Again, i began to see floaters and threads in my eye.

All of these made me present myself at a hospital in Ogun state, and i was referred to Guinness Eye Centre, Luth, to see the HOD, a Professor in Ophthalmology.

On my first visit there about 3 weeks ago, at least 3 consultants used a an instrument to view the back of my left eyes both in lying and sitting positions. They said the back of my eyes were good and that there was nothing abnormal there. Then the prof recommended that they carry out Gonioscopy to check the drainage angle of eye, as well as check my eyes intra-ocular pressure. The consultant did so and recommended that i carry out Glaucoma screening tests (OCT, CVF and Pachymetry) and i was given an appointment for yesterday.

Yesterday, they carried out the OCT test on both my eyes (results attached) and CVF (i forgot to snap the CVF results). But they said the CVF was inconclusive as i lost focus at some point during the clicking exercise.

The consultant who reviewed the OCT result pointed out that, in the 3rd attachment, bot circles should be green all round, but my first circle has a yellow part, while the second circle has two yellow parts.

She said i am predisposed to Glaucoma and that i would need to do another OCT and CVF tests in 6 months time. I couldnt do the Pachymetry test as the personnel to do it wasnt available or so. I will be returning to there on Monday to do it.

I am just tired and frustrated!

Why i am still seeing flashes if my retina is not detached I am very short-sighted in my right/unaffected eye, but see quite well with my left/affected eye. I am actually supposed to be using glasses coz i strain my eyes a little. Could this be the reason for the flashes

What about the threads and floaters Due to the Mydriasis i suffered in the eye during the trauma, I now have Anisocoria, and the consultants say i will have to go through life like that. I wear dark shades all the time coz the sun dazes me now. Could this be the cause??

Which one is Glaucoma again?? Glaucoma doesnt run in my family. My dad is over 60 and he sees very well. He wears glasses only when he wants to read. Same with my mum.

Please advise, Docs

I empathize with you in this situation. The Oct result didn't really reveal much to be worried about. I really doubt glaucoma in this case as even the yellow highlights doesn't indicate a thinning as observed in glaucoma but rather in this situation, they re a little thicker than the expected in that region . What's your visual Acuity like in each eye ?

Thanks for the prompt response, Doc.

I am fairly short-sighted in my right eye. The left eye i had the accident in is my "good" eye, in that i am very sharp vision there. But since the accident, the vision reduced a little. They said my optic nerve got inflammed due to the trauma.
Summarily, i am short-sighted now, but i am still able to go about my day's activities without having to resort to glasses, but i strain my eyes sometimes to make out far objects and letterings.

Please, where are you based? Can i consult with you physically? If there is anything wrong with the eye (i earnestly pray not), i want us to be able to detect it fast, so that it can immediately corrected.

Hello Sir. I've been using betaxolol for a month now. I notice the eyes don't ache anymore but i do feel uncomfortable when i sleep on my side, i do have this feeling that the eyes want to come out which makes the eyes achy at times so i always sleep on my back. Sleeping on my back gives me a relief.

yes I came across a research article recently that states sleeping on the side could cause an increase in the eye pressure. Probably , that could be an explanation for your experience.

But glaucoma does not run in the family. The only disease that runs in my family is high BP/hypertension. So i don't know why I'm the first to have glaucoma. I feel depressed at times, i just have to learn how to sleep with my back every time. may God help me.

headache is a symptom associated with various health conditions. it would take medical history and investigations to know what might be d cause. MRI may be needed to rule our a neurologic cause . YEs there are glasses meant for people that are regular screen users .

I already did MRI and tests there's nothing wrong with me, thanks a lot. I think it might be yeast infection

Hello Doc, a friend of mine complained of eye pains when looking at close objects. Example, when trying to weave clothes on his weaving machine. He said these pains now result to headaches and loss of concentration.

He visited a doctor recently and he recommended glasses to reduce the pressure on his eyes. Not satisfied with the idea of using glasses, he visited a health care group like that that did some computer scan on him and prescribed drugs that will heal the eyes without glasses. These drugs amounted to 60k.
The dilemma is that, he doesn't like glasses and he is not sure that those people can treat him.

it's safe if you were assessed before use as not everi1 are good candidates fr contact lens use. You'll also need to pay attention to hygienic practices for contact lens users else you put yourself at risk of eye infections

this shouldnt be a thing for worry. It's a natural phenomenon experienced by some persons when light passes through the eyes at a certain angle nevertheless a physical inspection by a professional wouldnt be a bad idea.
