- Mamman Daura's comments on the 2023 presidency have continued to generate reactions

- Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has condemned the position of President Buhari’s nephew on the topic

- The group stated that Nigeria must continue with the power rotation between the north and the south

The Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has condemned the position of President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura who said competence should be placed above zoning arrangement in the 2023 presidential election.

Daura, said to be the most influential man around the president, had in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service said the most qualified person from any part of the country should succeed his uncle.

Responding, the Afenifere insisted that the country must continue with the common understanding of power rotation between the north and the south.

The spokesman of the group, Joe Odumakin, in a telephone interview with Daily Trust said the country must stand firm and respect the zoning agreement.

His words: “They [northern candidates] would come out definitely, but it is now left for the country to say whether they want to accept the move or they should insist on the common understanding that power should rotate between north and south.

“I heard him [Mamman Daura] talking about competence or whatever. In 2023, he would understand if there is anything called competence. We are watching how things unfold.”

Odumakin said he expected the south to forge a common front when the time comes to ensure that the presidency returned to the region in 2023.

Meanwhile, apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation in Nigeria, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged political parties in Nigeria to look the way of the Igbos and give them a chance in 2023.

John Nwodo, the president general of the socio-political group, disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to Imo state governor Hope Uzodinma in Owerri.

Nwodo speaking on the 2023 presidential elections, expressed confidence that the situation in Nigeria will be turned around if Igbos are given the opportunity.

Legit.ng previously reported that the Igbo socio-cultural organization disclosed that it is still committed to ensuring that an Igbo president succeeds President Buhari in 2023.

The organization explained that the quest for the southeast zone to produce the next president was in the spirit of equity, justice and fair play.

Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, the deputy national publicity secretary of Ohanaeze, on Monday, May 18, in Enugu pleaded with political parties in the country to zone their presidential ticket to the southeast zone.

Presidential election: Mixed reactions trail Atiku's decision to challenge result in court
Interestingly, a human rights lawyer of Igbo extraction and former Nigerian Bar Association chairman, Chief Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, has kicked against the zoning of the presidency.

According to him, Nigeria needs a president who is passionate about the country and has the type of passion Late Colonel Odimegwu Ojukwu had for Biafra.

In an interview with a national newspaper recently, Agbakoba stressed the need for the devolution of powers if the country is to make progress.

Whom do you think can replace President Buhari in 2023?

I think Odumakin meant to say that power should rotate between the north and South west.

They are experts at saying one thing and meaning another, but we are all here and watching you guys reduce Nigeria to Yemen, by that time we would have formed our own country and left.

It appears Daura is only giving a voice to the North agenda.

Competency is just a vague diversion.

In a normal society one would say Daura is making a lot of sense; but not in this case where Buhari has brought shame and mediocrity to our nation by reason of poor governance.

The northerners unfortunately are the ones in power, so it's only suitable for them to spew thrash and preach against zoning because it suits them; but would Daura have said the same thing if someone from the south was the president?

Odumakin may be thinking too high of Nigerians, most especially a politically disunited southern Nigeria..

If Fulanis all the way from Futa Jalon and Mauritania came to Nigeria and took over control of the political leadership of Hausa people, Nupe tribe, Gbagyi communities and Yoruba community of Ilorin, what makes you think that they will give up power to Tinubu led political alliance?

I live in the North and I can tell anyone categorically that the only tribe in Nigeria that the Fulani feel they cannot hoodwink are the Igbo people and that is why they ensured that an Igboman never became the Chief of Army Staff since General Ironsi until Jonathan appointed General Ihejirika and the same Fulanis knew that Ihejirika was going to crush Boko Haram which they were using to make Jonathan appear weak by making the country ungovernable, they deceived Jonathan into sacking him with claims of General Ihejirika was killing northerners and taking revenge for Biafra and because of that he won't get their votes.
A naive GEJ who is now roaming foolishly around as Buhari 'Peace envoy' to other countries while Fulani Gunmen are mercilessly slaughtering and killing Nigerians refused to listen to wise counsel from even his own Ijaw Youths Council.

This position of Mamman Daura represent the opinion of his ruling Fulani clan.
The non Visa requirements for Africans was targeted at allowing Fulanis from all over the continent to come and live in Nigeria and communities in fertile areas such as Southern Kaduna and the Middle Belt are being ruthlessly cleared up for them.

See the video below of Sardauna before independence to get the mindset of this people and the wicked idea they sold to people in the South about perceived dominance of Igbos to take control of oil which is currently in the hands of Fulani elites.

Buhari is simply implementing the Sardauna policy enunciated in this video through his appointments to key positions in the country and there is palpable fear of open resistance because many citizens feel that Buhari will unleash mayhem on them using the security agencies even without voicing it out unlike in the previous administration and this is a man with acclaimed integrity smiley
Buhari can decide to increase fuel to N1000 per litre tomorrow and nothing will happen because we are all afraid of becoming victims, we suffer in silence including his ardent supporters.

Instead of tackling the Fulani agenda the youths in Nairaland are helping the Fulani agenda by Igbos bashing Yorubas and vice versa daily. shocked

Even with the level of Buhari’s lopsided appointments nobody will want to entertain the thought of North again. It seems like a 2nd slap to the face.

If Buhari’s Government was abit more liberal majorly in key appointments this wudnt have been so hard to consider as every section must be carried along for Nigeria to truly grow.

In a not so liberal government power rotation seems the only fair option here.

Mamman Daura caused his own problem here by choices in Buhari’s government and cannot even talk about competence when Buhari’s government appointments is more tribal than about competence. While he is correct, he is not being honest!
