What Pa Awolowo Said About Nigeria In 1986 Will Shock You! by nemynely(m): 4:11am On Aug 02, 2020
My best hobby is thinking and this has led me to discover a lot of things on my own eg better ways of getting a task done easier and faster, whether at the office or at home. Through thinking, I am able to improvise when the appropriate is not available. Through retrospective analysis, I am able to better my present and by extension, the future.

It is this same thinking, which I did in 2009, that made me come to the frank and fearful realization that Nigeria is a damaged product. What led to that conclusion is story for another day. Only yesterday, I stumbled upon one of the letters of the late Sage, Pa Obafemi Awolowo (God bless his soul), who in 1986 penned down a fearful foreboding concerning this nation. It embodies all the trappings that led to my own sad conclusion of 2009.

Here's the letter.

To that request, Awolowo wrote the following:
“Dear Sir,
“I received your letter of February 28, 1986, and sincerely thank you for doing me the honour of inviting me to contribute to the National Political Debate.

“The purpose of the debate is to clarify our thoughts in our search for a new social order.

“It is therefore meet and proper that all those who have something to contribute should do so.

“I do fervently and will continue fervently to pray that I may be proved wrong.

“For something within me tells me, loud and clear, that we have embarked on a fruitless search.

“At the end of the day, when we imagine that the new order is here, we would be terribly disappointed.

“In other words, at the threshold of our New Social Order, we would see for ourselves that, as long as Nigerians remain what they are, nothing clean, principled, ethical, and idealistic can work with them.

“And Nigerians will remain what they are, unless the evils which now dominate their hearts, at all levels and in all sectors of our political, business and governmental activities are exorcised.

“But I venture to assert that they will not be exorcised, and indeed they will be firmly entrenched, unless God Himself imbues a vast majority of us with a revolutionary change of attitude to life and politics or, unless the dialetic processes which have been at work for some twenty years now, perforce, make us perceive the abominable filth that abounds in our society, to the end that an inexorable abhorrence of it will be quickened in our hearts and impel us to make drastic changes for the better.

“There is, of course, an alternative option open to us.
“To succumb to permanent social instability and chaos.
“In the premises, I beg to decline your invitation.
“I am yours truly, Obafemi Awolowo”

Tell her it is criminal in our laws to commit suicide. Would she want to die a criminal? Cos if she chooses that path, she wouldn't find peace only everlasting fire forever and ever. And no amount of suffering in this world should make anyone choose eternal damnation in hell. By God's grace, this should be sufficient.

She must have her reasons. She wouldn't want to up and leave without any reasons. So, get her to pour out all her reasons, make sure you are a very good listener, don't interrupt her as she does so. When she is done, first ask her if that will be all ie If she has any other reasons before addressing each reason one after the other with verifiable facts and tangible reality. Be sure to avoid the use of highfalutin hopes.
If however she remains adamant, be quick to alert and enlist the help of her loved ones and even professional services if she hints at suicidal tendencies.
Cheers.

I believe, he has doubts about God's ability to redeem us from the shitpool..

Your Papa Awolowo's letter came almost two decades late. He was crying over spilled milk. He was trying to shut the barn when the horse had already bolted away. Providence have him the chance to restructure Nigeria by supporting Ojukwu's "On Aburi We Stand" pre-Biafra stance or rejecting Gowon's Greek gift of political appointment as Vice-Chairman Federal Executive Council and boldly telling Gowon to fight Biafra alone if he insisted on violence to resolve the pre-Biafra crisis.

He spurned all these historic opportunities and chose to align with Arewa North for a fake One Nigeria where the North wanted to dominate and ultimately succeeded, and more importantly consigned Awolowo to historical irrelevance as The best President Nigeria never had

Awolowo was a very hopeless and selfish man. He has no reason to complain because he knew from day one that Nigeria has no future and would forever be a disaster, at least his statements about Nigeria being worthless were documented but what did he do when others like Ojukwu realized same and made the bold move to break up the useless contraption? The same Awolowo started giving all manner of excuses on why he couldn't join forces to liberate his people and give them a bright future.

The coward claimed that Northern soldiers were stationed in Lagos and Ibadan thus there is nothing he could do. He even added that if East is allowed to leave Nigeria that they will also be allowed to leave. You see how evil his thought process is? He lacked the guts to call for break-up yet he was willing to rain on the parade of those who risked everything to challenge the status quo against all odds.

Awolowo is a terrible coward and opportunist who contributed a lot albeit due to cowardice in entrenching Nigeria and all its failures and disastrous existence.

Considering his cult-like following in the West, if he had called on his people to fight for Oduduwa or at least not to support Nigeria in the war, it would have gone a long way destabilizing the Northern controlled government. However, he still turned around to join forces with the same people that have always humiliated him to fight against the East in order to entrench the same Nigeria he knew was a disaster and hopeless contraption.

Maybe, if Awolowo had some balls just like Ojukwu, no one would be in this current disaster and hopelessness we have found ourselves in Nigeria. I'm happy he died a shameful death, as a frustrated and sad man, and wasn't even buried with honors despite all he did to support the contraption out of cowardice.

I share the late sage's view. They youths( Majority) had lost it already. They're tomorrow's leader but they'll be WORSE than the present.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was one of those who destroyed Nigeria, I thank God that the same Nigeria he helped Gowon to built by destroying others (Eastern Nigeria) under the guise of one Nigeria later destroyed him. And the same thing will happen to some of those Yoruba shouting one Nigeria to despise the Easterners (people of old eastern Nigeria) until we destroy Nigeria, Nigeria will destroy us

The popular axiom that cowards die many times before their actual death holds true for Awo. After independence, he was always harrased by the same North and humiliated by being thrown into prison for no just reason. He never enjoyed peace despite all his support to those that earlier messed him up.

The same Ojukwu that fought the system and Northerners fearlessly still outlived him and when Ojukwu later died, he was buried like a national hero but Awo had to die like the coward he is by taking poison when he realized that the North was going to throw him into jail again, this time for life.

You're not getting it. Awo had a cult-like following in the West during that period. His words alone would have galvanized his people into action. If he had told them to do everything to stand on their own, the story would have been different. But he failed to provide the needed leadership for his people at that critical time.

The idiot that called himself soldier but ran at the middle of the night dressed like sisi is a great shame and disgrace to any army across the world.

In your previous post about joining forces with Northerner NIGERIA, what you should recall is, he didn't joined them until Biafra Armies transgressed by waging civil war towards Yorubaland through Ondo State. This shows he isn't coward as you Claimed as he responded promptly to save his people.

Besides, What you see as cowardice is bravery. There's always time for war and talks which Igbos know not(You're still threading that path with Kanu's and his followers' outburst).
You admitted he has "AGBEKOYA" on his side who posseses spiritual Power, meaning they are up to the task.
From what we deduce from his behaviours, he couldn't do so because he knows there're always casualties in war, he valued his people's lives unlike the real COWARD that dressed like woman and ran after wasting over 2m of his people over senseless war. That's why Yorubas do sing for him that. "Awolowo, Iwo naa loo seun, Iwo naa loo'da, Iwo too m'ore lowo to fi naa 'nikan, Iwo naa loo'da". Literally means YOU HAVE THE POWER BUT YOU REFUSED TO USE IT, YOU ARE NOT FAIR ENOUGH
Even during campaigns, all he preaches is SHUN VIOLENCE. He's a diplomat

HAVEN'T said that, why do you always venture your Anger on him about secession? I thought your COWARD should be COWARD enough to have liberated you.
If your hyped Zik of Africa could moved Against secession, denounced biafra, went against Ojukwu, WHO'S NOW AWOLOWO? Lots of Hypocrites

One single act of bravery from this man should have given his predecessor the boldness to become Giants but Ojukwu bravery made igbos who they are today..If after pogrom we chickened out and took the Awolowo way, we would still be bitter about our loss in the war. Only Yoroubas talk about igbos loosing 3m in the war cos that was the last feat of their hero Awolowo but that was Our triumph..igbo land beat many likes Nigerian states that never witness the war .
