Nobody dropped Presidency on Yorubas lap in 1999, they only played good politics.

After Abiola's saga of 1993 in which he won in all the regions in Nigeria (except SE of course) but wasn't allowed to rule, Yorubas went back to the drawing board and had a major stake in PDP, AD, ANPP and other parties. They did not see any party as "Hausa or Igbo party", they continued to build bridges everywhere. In all the parties.
The parties realized that Yorubas will sell on the presidency ticket because of the 1993 experience with Abiola and they decided to support Yoruba candidates in their primary elections (Yorubas contested against Hausas, igbos and other tribes in their various parties but Yoruba candidates won). So in the main election we had Yoruba vs Yoruba. That is the sophistication we mean about the westerners, they know politics.

Now compare the above strategies to the Igbos political ideology of politics.

However, Igbos choose to vote others, neglecting their own, even queuing behind a Fulani in Atiku, while hypocritically insulting others for supporting Buhari, another Fulani. They have forgotten that politics is about building bridges and alliances to further your interest. Tinubu build the defunct AC from a single state and formed an alliance with CPC to the present APC who are in power. Today, the Yorubas are in the midst of power and are already discussing a possibility of another presidency. But look at APGA, where is it today? The party is almost going extinct with no meaningful effect in power brokering. Nobody gives anybody anything on a platter in politics, you create a niche and make yourself relevant in the scheme of things.
