I imagine this was the "get it done using tried and true technology". It takes quite a lot to make an orbital vehicle that glides and lands like a plane, and this method reduced risk, weight, and increased chances of success. I'd be surprised if they didn't have a lander in the works already. They had already demonstrated boosters that land vertically (as opposed to splashing in the sea), so there's got to be ongoing work to extend that to orbital vehicles (though it would increase launching weight, with all the attendant costs and risks)

Immovable and flat Earth? I really have a hard time understanding flat-earthers. Even the Church (presumably the best interpreter of the Bible) came around to understanding that the world is not flat (disc or square)

- All the large bodies in space are ellipsoids: stars, planets, moons... yet Earth is the only flat one? Gravity pulls everything together, and the most natural shape is a sphere. Just like water in free fall (a water drop is held together by tension in all directions, and is decidedly not flat)

- there are TWO points on earth where it's either constantly dark, or constantly light (the poles, depending on season), like every other observable planet and moon. This cannot be achieved with a flat planet.

- likewise flat earth would imply you should always be able to see the moon... it should not sink below the horizon.

- there are satellites rotating around this "flat earth" like moons, giving you internet and gps... hard to keep things in orbit over a flat surface.

- the curvature of Earth is noticeable from the visibility of the windmills in the first picture. All the windmills are at shore level, yet the ones in the back appear lower. If they were indeed lower, they would be submerged in water (since the ocean would fill up anything below sea level)

- finally, planes routinely fly over or close to the poles because the distance from (e.g.) New York to Tokyo is shorter over the Arctic than along a meridian. In addition, if they kept flying in the same direction, they'd eventually arrive at their departing point again. A flat earth suggests that planes will eventually bump against the "end of the world" and have to turn back.
