I beg to defer. You must have joined the bank as a contract staff, that was the mistake you made. I have a friend that moved from access bank to Microsoft another one moved from gtb to Deloitte, both of them are IT expert, they joined as ET. Self development is very key, you cant be in a place for 10yrs without adding value to yourself and expect miracle to happen. It's never too late bro. I wish you well in you next move. 8 Likes |

babyfaceafrica: Life doesnt start @40, your life for don set by 40. I m not trying to discourage him. If he thinks working 6am -10pm is hard, let him do programming and start to work 24 hours. That is what you suppose to be doing @ age 40. The industry is getting saturated already. |

FellaG: While learning a Digital Skill, Learn an I.T Business skill as well cause at your age there's no time to start mastering programming. Before you will learn it to a point where you will stand out, be ready to spend up to 2 - 3 years. No one will hire you for " HELLO WORLD " Applications Since you have experience in financial sector, you can learn Forex Trading as an I.T business, and Graphics/Web Design as I.T skill. I.T business and I.T skill is slightly different These two if learnt properly can give you double of what you earned monthly as a banker. trade forex, Use the graphics learnt on freelance platforms. Programming is fun but will take much of your time. 2 Likes |

FellaG: It's good you left. Banking job is health hazard ; you are being glued to the screen for many hours, you dedicate your whole day to the job, no reasoning about the outside world just attending to customers...etc You now have time to explore and learn many things. Just imagine being glued to your computer for 12 hours a day, in 6 days that's 12x6= 72 hours in 6 days which could damage the eye secretly without you knowing. No time for yourself and your kids;families also No time to exercise, run a check up on yourself No time to think about yourself. Banking jobs if at all should be halved shifted( morning and afternoon) . Working 6am to 10 pm is suicidal. One day you hear someone collapsed and died. Being a boss of your own is the best. 3 Likes |

How did you join the banking industries in the first place. Were you directly employed by the the bank or an outsourcing firm? Cos I know quite a lot of people that in the industry that were directly employed and are doing great today? If you are an outsource staff, my brother you salary is stagnant year in year out. 1 Like |

I live outside Nigeria and use platforms like Upwork, Freelancer, etc to hire programmers and others. Those platforms are dominated by Indians and Pakistans. Occasionally I run into Nigerian freelancers but very few and not surprisingly they request outrageous fee/hour even though they are yet to complete a single project. So, try do some research on such platforms to see if you can acquire skills in areas in high demand. You earn income in dollars. Once I ran into a Nigerian freelancer that has earned anout $100k or so. I am sure he will be living like a king in Nigeria. But to earn the trust of clients can be challenging due to the bad image given to Nigeria. |

The most selling and profitable IT niche worldwide at the moment is Data Science of which Python programming and Linux OS are involved. You can get grounded in this field within a year or two depending on your learning speed. Other top skills that are profitable are Cloud computing and Internet of Things. However, these skills are hardly sought after in developing countries like ours. Digital Marketing is in Vogue but most people in Nigeria doesn't know the value, as such, it won't give you the type of money you're looking at. With the zeal in your tone and determination I felt you have, I'll recommend you go for Data Science. 2 Likes |

I laugh when I see graduates displaying their work place as their profile pic. Is it to show people that you have gotten a job or what exactly? One should even be ashamed to do such, you went to school, graduated so that you can become boss of your own and not to work under somebody. Working in an office is not an achievement, you can't save your salary, expenses wrecking you from up to down, you are always depending on the next salary.... It goes this way and in the next 15 years, you realise your had been wasting your time while working suit and tie. A banker was doing guy for me at the bank, I smiled and told him he would be sitting in that chair for 20 years and more..... The idiot dey happy, e dey their head. 2 Likes |

Badly in need of a lawyer's advice Please push to the front page Sometimes early last month, I had an argument with someone whom I was owing 600 naira... Along the line while we were arguing she poured water on me which I immediately retaliated.. all this happened inside her shop. So when I did that I came outside . Someone who heard our voice was then asking me what happened, while I was explaining suddenly I got a very big hit on my mouth wch in the process I lost 4 of my tooth. She actually used a pestle to hit me .. I instantly went to the nearest police station to report wch she was arrested. She was locked and was to be arraigned for court d next day but due to my being in the hospital I couldn't go so she was bailed but was told to come on a particular day .. Fast forward... Finally I was to to take her the court as pronounced by my IPO but her people came begging that we should settle out of court... I billed them 400k but the pleaded to pay 120k ... Wch the price of one tooth is 25k .. so I agreed to forgive them o.. they promised to be paying 15k at every end of the month but gave me 20k cash... Now the month has ended.. I am the one looking for them now.. less I forget them wrote down an undertaking as regards when to pay but the case has not been withdrawn.. please I need Ur advice.. what can I do now because my IPO said he cannot be running around because he warned me .. |

Since you came from a technical background and you stated i suggest you try Software development. You can try a free 2 weeks course to determine if it is something you would like and can do. The advantages are: 1. Age isn't that much of barrier 2. Remuneration is better than many other professions 3. You get better with age and experience 4. U can choose to be on your own or work for firms 5. It is the future of work, the demand is going higher by the year for the foreseeable future. A free two weeks software development course is being organized by Codebase Technologies ltd. I suggest you give it a try if it what you will like to learn intensively See the flyer below. Thanks
