I'm trying to make a case for the less privileged, obviously.

If 600-1000 Naira isn't a substantial amount for you to spend every month, I can understand. But you become unrelatable when you try and make me look poor because I am already admitting to being poor that's why I have a topic like this up here anyways...

I don't why anyone would assume I spend more money on makeup and data... This girls can barely even feed. Make-up and gadgets are afar off.

I had no intentions to spark up a gender divide with the comparison to condoms (both genders benefit from condoms). I think the need for one to be politically correct all the time is too much a burden for me. The comparison is honest and the basis are founded on health.

Condoms are for the prevention of STIs, STDs and as well as pregnancy.

Pads help with prevention of many women related health issues and also aid the process of a healthy pregnancy.

I greatly appreciate those who made meaningful contributions

The responses here shows that men are very uneducated about this, intentionally ignorant or simply too grossed out.

Just know that you don't have to respond

Thank you my sister/ brother, how has this innocent writeup got to do with comparison between male and female gender. See them passing ignorant comments na wa o.

@bolded.. Who told you condoms are free?

You people will just be making stupid gender comparisons everytime.

Are y'all aware that a pack of condom contains 3 and cost 500 Naira ( depending on brand)
That is just for 3 sex and one can do 10 / month which cost 1500-2000 naira

I use 10-12 pads for each menstrual cycle.

They've been months where I used 14 pads

The rationale behind the question is that a pack of Always ® (I'll use Always ® for my analysis because it's the brand I use and are mostly familiar with the pricing and also it's the most popular brand in Nigeria) contains 7 pads for extra long pads and 8 pads for medium sized pads, which is clearly not enough for my cycle.

Pricing for Always ® ranges from 300-500 per a pack of 7 or 8. Because of the number of pads I'll be using, my safest bet is 2 packs of 7(extra long).

Depending on the quality and/or fragrance, I'll be needing 600-1,000 Naira every month. To me that's a lot.

How many households can afford that for their teenage daughters and mothers?

When I first started using pads I thought a pad was for one whole day(which didn't make sense to me then) but I continued to try and use one pad a day. I use the pad during the day especially if it's a school day and use rags at night... I don't even want to go into details as to my experience doing this because I still have scars in my vagina area as a result.

So most homes use rags, Which is unhygienic and unhealthy. The price of pads is high, even in all other brands still. A pack of pad should contain nothing less than 18 pads(night time and day time).

Condoms are cheaper than pads and are even given for free, that's a gross imbalance. I can't decide to not have periods anymore but sex is a choice.

How can one go about even making this heard in the appropriate quarters?

Durex condom is expensive too and na only 3 dey pack.... Too expensive esp. For marathon I will need 3 packs...... Every week... Dat too much for me

Girrrrl periods are so unnecessary.
The cramps, the mood swings, the cravings.

Why can't Mother nature send us letters;
"Girl, you're not pregnant this month. Will write you next month, stay safe"
There was a time that my period was like a nightmare to me. The pain would make me crawl and no drug was working anymore. I would not eat of drink water for the first two days. Sleep was far from.me. but how the pains disappeared I can't tell. Everyone knew when I was menstruating.
But now, it's the cravings. I can treck miles to buy something that my period wants me to take.
Guys don't know how lucky they are. Na we dey see Mendes na still we dey push pikin.

Everything u r saying felt right till u mention condom in ur write up literally Dat a sub....

Back to the matter
It's sad government will do nothing about this as usual while the company selling can't sell for less in other not to make lost

Dat said some nice NGO share pads for female student in secondary school which is commendable

But concerning the price I doubt anything would be done..

While there are some brand that are cheaper but ladies complain of them not absorbing well and not comfy enough which is why alot of people prefer Always

If only they can subside the price or government regulate ( won't be fair on producer)
If government can give the producer a good dollar rate I believe the price can go down
So both the poor, average and rich can afford this and i think this is better option

This particular topic has being debated on twitter unfortunately didn't yield good result but at least lot of NGO step in for the girl child kiss

300-500 is expensive?

How much does make up, human hair and clothing's cost? This analysis doesn't hold water!

And why use rag!?

Platinum Always won me over with the packaging and floral scent.
The fragrance sells that product.
That pad I heard it's not safe for health reasons.

Wow, this thread is littered with small boys who would faint, if they had to deal with blood flowing from their manhood just once, and not monthly.
See how they form disgust at the topic, but follow the thread to the end. Is it by force, na?

You are right my brother. Have you heard of YAHSII? Its an NGO that caters for issues like this.

Very nice if one exist. It is necessary. Sometimes, when I take a look at some poor adolescent girls, I feel for them. You wonder how their daily lives goes.

I saw a post where someone said she takes a medication that makes her flow scanty so she doesn't have to spend much on pad. Hmmm I pity you.

I don't think any girl who has spare money for wig and make up won't have for sanitary pad

I stopped using always since 2013 when it use to itch me for no reason. I started using a brand pad and panty liners that lowers menstrual pains as well as infections and residual blood clots from previous period since last and I have been enjoying the good health of my womanhood .
A lot of pads in the market today has cause infertility issues to women as well as altered the vagina PH level thereby leading to a woman having infection or scars down there

Nothing wrong with Always Platinum (except the price which is lowkey worth it with that exotic fragrance)
