One thing is to quit, the other thing is to find another job.

I keep advising people that if they want to quit any job, they should be sure that another job is waiting for them or they have some personal side hustling doing.

This country is not a place to stay jobless

Read my comment again, you will see where I wrote "quit your job if you have another job waiting for you OR YOU ALREADY HAVE A SIDE HUSTLE"

Not every body wants to be an entrepreneur, that's why I gave two options

Yes, and I'm so happy I quit. After my youth service, I got a job as a facility manager for a suite that consists of 8 floors and a penthouse on the right wing. The floors are let out as offices to business organizations. Each floor is let out at an annual rent of 3.2million and each floor pays service charge of over 300k twice a year. All the floors including the 2 bedroom penthouse were occupied by business organizations. It's situated along the international airport road close to 7/8 bustop, Ajao estate. Though I didn't have any previous experience as a facility manager, it was quite challenging but I was determined to give it my best. I was also his secretary / personal assistant. I was in charge of anything maintenance as long as that building is concerned. My boss is the most wicked and heartless person I have ever worked for. Waking up everyday and knowing I was going to face him was a nightmare I only wished I could avoid. With all the money he makes from there (he makes over 32million yearly from the suite which is not his only source of income by the way) and the volume of work I did there, I was paid 35k as facility manager. No benefits, no allowance, nothing!! All I got was complain and mockery from him.. He choked me with so much pressure and frustration. Though I wasn't faultless but I always gave it my best shot.. I didn't have any experience in that field, which he was supposed to assist and motivate me to do better, but he was very far from that. He always looked for faults and when there is none, he creates one just to humiliate me. This is someone who is old enough to father my father. Even as an octagonerian,, retired as a successful businessman, having being blessed with uber successful children, established businesses in Lagos and his hometown in anambra, he still worships money like a pauper who suddenly stumbled upon millions. Ooh, he is so wicked and most cunny in have worked for. After working for him for 1 year, I realized that my life isn't getting any better under his organization. No growth, no advancement no matter how slow and coupled with the pressure I faced from him daily, the best option for me was to quit before I lost my mind. I didn't have any other plans in mind but I just had to quit. I didn't die.

motionarena, I have.

When I stumbled into a thread discussing freelancing on Nairaland, I couldn't sleep for days.

As a graduate working for a startup, my salary wasn't up to 100k. However, I strongly believed that I could do much better than I was earning if I took the bold step.

Finally, I did and that decision was my toughest ever, but it turned out my best career decision.

Funnily enough, my former colleagues are still earning the same salary some 3 years later. I cannot even talk about how the naira/dollar exchange rate has made my job better, the exposure I get and free time at my disposal.

Now, I get plenty of rest and look so fresh grin

No jumping into Lagos traffic.

The truth is, no guts, no glory

This country is not a place to stay jobless

There is no country on earth that is good to stay jobless.

There are homeless people living in Japan. Most of them sleep in Cafes.

Poverty is taking over large number of people in India due to Corona Virus lockdowns. India records daily new cases of over 60,000 infections.

Most parts of Sweden are poor and the masses are jobless, (Malmo, Rosengard) utterly jobless, they look poorer than Nigerians. Emaciated.

Having a well paying job is a luxury anywhere in the world.

Yet most good paying jobs in Nigeria frustrate you and make you feel like a prisoner. Like the poster said.

Entrepreneurs are risk takers. Not everyone wants to take risks. Some people like to play it safe.

A bird at hand is better than two in the bush. Don't leave your current job until you see a better one.

You did the right thing, abeg. It shows that you place a high value on yourself, people who don't have self love or regard for themselves are usually the ones who will say things like;

1. Take it as your training ground, you will be able to survive anything after this - As if unnecessary suffer head has ever guaranteed success anywhere.

2. If you can work with this man, you can work anywhere - absolute rubbish.

3. Just manage that 35k, there are no jobs in Nigeria. 35k is better than nothing - money means more to some people than their overall well being, they worship it like your former boss.

That job wasn't worth the stress or the pay involved. I hope you find something new and better. Good luck

I think those platforms have become over saturated, as in there are too many freelancers on them, more than the number of jobs available.
that's very true... Any alternatives angry

I did and even though r, it was paramount for my mental wellbeing. Towards my last days working for my boss I will have panic attacks just at the thought of going to the office. He was an egoistic narcissistic man. I don't regret it one bit
