The only reason I can advise a student to aim the first class hon in any Nigerian university is for him/her to win scholarship and grant for his PG program abroad.

First class is becoming so worthless in Nigeria.

The best thing as a Nigerian student is to engage in extracurricular activities or training outside one’s academics if one isn’t a health related discipline.
Extracurricular activity/training like programming, handwork, photography, data analysis et al.

What do you mean by first class becoming so worthless? I support the system that award grades to as many that made it. We have been making first class worthy for decades with no tangible result. It is time we followed global trend.

This has always been my clamor. Teaching job should be exclusively reserved for the best brains in the country. Teachers should be among the highest earners in the country like doctors' and even politicians'. We should understand that only a great mind can nurture great minds.

If teachers are paid well,I tell you, many slave bank teller jobs will resign... Just imagine entry level teacher collect 90K per month... You think slaves(marketers, tellers etc) will not resign immediately and pick up teaching??

First class is not a guarantee of excellence thus the aptitude test.

Even if you have first class in other fields but not education, you may still find the job fraustrating and irrelevant. Your performance in the classroom may not meet the expected standard.

You reminded me of when my lecturer gave us a test. I wrote what she taught us but because I didn't copy verbatim what was in the notes and textbooks she crossed everything and gave me zero.

The rot is just so much cos even in the teaching sphere there's no passion for it in this country..

First Class degree has now become pure water. What a sad situation. The most annoying part is that the person who brough the idea of this test and those conducting it don't even smell first class. Hunger dey this land.

I can't agree more. Any graduate should learn a digital skill or have a top notch connection.

First Class, 2-1 is gettting useless as days go by. I will advice anybody that finished with good grade to pursue graduate school abroad, with the intention of finding greener pasture.

There is huge difference BTW being intelligent and knowing how to teach, ability to teach is a talent. In Nigeria coming out with first class doesn't proof you are intelligent there is mass sorting of papers and bribing of lecturers both in cash and in kind,if you can give your body to the lecturers and sort your exam papers if their is another grade after first class they will give you.Sex for mark lecturers quickly comes to mind.

My dear the matter tire me. The way they mock first class graduate it's as if it is a crime to have one. Even third class students still dey get mouth dey talk. No wonder the country won't move forward.

As a graduate in Nigeria, no matter the grade,

-Gracificate
-Skillificate
are the 3 things involved.

It's good to have good brains as teachers; however, I strongly believe most of the first class graduates won't stay long on the job because compensation is very unattractive...they will leave as soon as they secure juicer appointments.

Nothing strange. In South Korea the best-graduating students opt for teaching jobs. I would rather advise a job seeker to take a teaching appointment instead of a banking job. Teachers have ample free time after close of work daily and holidays. Bank workers in nigeria have virtually no closing time and practically no holidays.
