If you had a good business idea that is sure to bring you much money, would you leave your job for it?

If you're passionate about it sure. Being your own boss is a bit hard. Especially at the beginning, it's a lot of work and sometimes the return is not as fast as you would hope, but if you really want it, you'll not regret it but enjoy every minute of it all, hardships and success. Ups and downs.

One of the best thing you can do for yourself in this life is to be your own boss. It may not be easy, but the reward outweigh the hardship. Let us start small. A little drop of water make a mighty ocean. Zechariah 4:10" For who hath despised the day of small things?, read the rest. My point is that starting small may be rejected by a lot of people, but with courage and patience,it will become great.of course, there will be a time, you would want to give up,but you must persist to fufil your vision of becoming a great entrepreneur. God bless you. God2man.

what are you afraid of?

Failure? Or criticism?

You might want to skinny deep before taking a dive.

Re: Would You Leave Paid Employment To Start A Business? by obelisk(m): 2:47pm On Oct 05, 2011
it depends on the type of paid employment you are leaving.
Life is not about being your own boss or making all the profit in the world.Life is about fulfillment and happiness.mind you, some paid employment is way better that being your own boss.
For me I'm lucky to be handling both successfully so far.
Thread wisely.

Definitely how long do you want to work for someone elseam a firm beleiver in that at some point in your life you must take that decision, because working for someone else can be risky its either they tell you to leave or you leave when you won't have the energy to do some realy good buisness and by then you will be left with limited choices.

If you believe in Yourself and you are able to do well working for someone then you can do much better for urself buthave come to realise that a lot of us have the fear factor, having sd all of these am aware that some paid employmesnt are worth your time but you must still plan to have your own thing going believe me its the best,I did some research on it

I did it and the business failed spectacularly.

Am still bankrupt and trying to pick the pieces of my life. The criticism and condemnation from family and friends has remains the most painful part. Prepare urself b4 u take the plunge

Leave paid employment to start a business. Chai, e go hard oooooo given the financial security that comes with paid employment in some organiztions

I would rather keep my paid job and start the business on the side. When things really take off and business is looking good then I can quit the paid job and face my business squarely.

You know capital/funding for the business can also come from the paid job so I won't be too quick to ditch it for business.

Tread carefully like someone said, I know a guy who quit his job with Chevron to start his own buiz 2 abi na 3yrs now and there's no worthwhile/profitable business in sight. And I know he is frustrated as well as bitter at some of his family members like say na them cause am.

YES. it's the best to be your own boss.
My advice is make sure the business is giving your at least 30% of your present income before you quit paid employment. I know people who resigned from high paying jobs to set up their own outfit and today they are regretting for there is nothing to show for it, some even sold properties yet they are still down.
Plan very well before you quit.

Before leaving paid employment totally, adequate arrangement must have been made on sources of income more especially if one is married and having kids to take care of the family before business break-even.
Re: Would You Leave Paid Employment To Start A Business? by didoflex(m): 4:22pm On Oct 05, 2011
Yes I would leave paid employment, however to be on the safe side, gradually, till that business picks up and is profitable enough for the paid employment to be a hindrance to you business.

Are you married? If you are and your husband is stable financially, discuss it,

Its easier when one spouse has a secure job with regular income and the other is 'hustling' in the business world. That helps! grin

HMM LIFE IS A RISK. BUSINESS IS NOT AS EASY AS YOU THINK, IF U HAVE A BUSINESS IDEA DO UR FEASIBILITY STUDY WELL BEFORE GOING INTO IT. ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE ENOUGH CAPITAL TO TAKE YOU ATLEAST 8MONTHS TO 1 YEAR WITHOUT DEPENDING ON YOUR BUSINESS PROFIT. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY YOUR BUSINESS CAN GROW.

MAKE SURE ITS A BUSINESS U HAVE PASSION FOR. BECAUSE IF THINGS GET ROUGH ITS ONLY UR PASSION THAT CAN KEEP U GOING.

IF POSSIBLE:- START UP SOMETHING THAT CAN BE GIVING YOU CONSISTENT DAILY INCOME THAT YOU CAN USE TO TAKE CARE OF UR TRANSPORT AND FEEDING , THEN START OF THE MAIN BUSINESS IDEA YOU HAVE SO U CAN TAKE THE PROFIT AND REINVEST IT INTO THE BUSINESS TO GROW.

DONT START UP A BUSINESS TO SURVIVE ON IT, THAT BUSINESS WILL HARDLY GROW.

ENSURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH CAPITAL TO GO INTO IT.

''- You are willing to go out and fight for it.
- You are willing to work day and night for it.
- You are willing to give up your time, peace and sleep for it.
- You are willing to relentlessly plan for it.
- You are willing to take great risks for it.
- You are willing to face your fears and opposition for it.
- You are willing to help others in the process of achieving it.
- You are willing to persevere through many rejections for it.
- You are willing to raise your bar and raise your standards for it.

If you are willing to take the above nine actions and if (#10) you can’t go a day without
thinking about IT…you know YOU DREAM IS REAL.

GO FOR IT!''

i prefer to be the boss, i most time get sick at working for someone else especially when you are doing what you know best but the person is in no way apreciating what you doing and is busy everytime complaining about you even when others think you are the best. i hate it to the core though am still an employee but aait the day would storm and leave for my own.
