Secular artists have over the years used their large fan bases and entertainment platforms to effect positive changes in Nigeria and the world at large.

Many Nigerians have come out to protest at the call of their favorite musicians. From Charley boy to Eedris, 2Baba et al. How many Christian artists have sang about corruption, nepotism, extra judicial killings and other vices in Nigeria? How many have led protests in this country?

During the build up to this past presidential election, many secular artists came together to sensitise the citizens about their votes through music.
Till today, there is no more powerful song that is being used for charity fundraising like "we are the world" by Michael Jackson.

What have our Christian artists been doing? They have rarely involved themselves whether passively or actively in nation building.
While secular artistes were sensitising the populace about electoral bribing and violence, our Christian artistes were nowhere to be found.
I sent the song "Paper" by Falz to some young people who wanted to do Yahoo out of frustration and after listening to it, they were enlightened.
Go and listen to the album "Moral instruction". Don't let sentiments blind you to the truth in non gospel songs.
I bet if you were among the spies sent to spy Jericho, you would refuse Rahab the prostitute's help just because you would judge her by who she is and not what she wants to do.

All immoral songs are secular songs but not all secular songs are immoral songs so be careful what type of secular song you listen to. Secular songs should instruct you morally, and also awaken your conscience.

Alicia Keys sang about the many evil things happening in Nigeria and other countries in her song "We are here" and imagine the number of her fans that will listen to that song and if they were not aware or concerned about the things happening in Nigeria would become aware and concerned.

So OP, listen to good music no matter the genre. Many of the so called Christians bashing you have been reading other good books apart from the Bible. They go to secular schools, read secular books and work in secular organizations.
Read and listen to things with good, educative and inspirational contents.
I listened to "I'm a survivor" by Beyonce and I was pumped to pick the pieces of my life and move on.
Till today, my ringtone has been "What are you waiting for? " by Nickelback. It reminds me to never wait until I have everything perfect before I launch my dreams.

Secular artistes are not "sinners" for singing a different genre of song. Music is a tool and people can use it for good or bad.
We still have decent non gospel artists.

If you like sleep in church but promote evil, you are a sinner.
Focus always on the message and truth is truth no matter who says it. Even our religious leaders are imperfect but if we were to focus on them instead of their messages, we would never grab what they are trying to pass to us.

I don too write. OP, when you're down, listen and read inspirational and motivational books, when you're with your wife and want to be romantic, dim the lights and play some blues. When you want to learn how to express your love better to your family and wife, read good romantic and relationship books. When you want to celebrate your spouse, play Simi, Adekunle Gold and Johnny Drille. When you want to worship God and pray, play Dr Enenche worship songs (Like "There is a place", "Sweet Holy Spirit", and "There is a Mountain") and other powerful worship songs. When you want to praise God, play some RCCG praise songs. Watch good movies that teach business, family, relationship and other important life lessons. These are my recommendations.
Just try and balance all these with moderation while pursuing God's purpose for your life and striving to give your family and self the best of life.

All these story for only me, wetin be my offence gangaan? The summary like many other people have said is that while some so called secular music and movies are not outright sins, they are not encouraged for a Christian pilgrim. The negatives far outweigh the positive.
You have consistently been unable to show any proof for your assertions apart from repeating them. We have not seen the impact of secular artists in corruption, nepotism, extra judicial killings in Nigeria. They have not changed or influenced anything except as usual their pockets. i don't think anyone would reasonably argue that secular music has stemmed the tide of corruption, nepotism, extra judicial killings or helped make votes count or Nigeria better.
The foreign artists have not fared any better. We have been singing heal the world but no such healing, only more albums and Sony contracts for Jackson.
Again, secular artists have not saved the world any better than others. They've only won more awards, to be fair.

If you are worried about what makes you sin, you should look inside your heart to find that, and not outside at things like music and movies.

Jesus Christ said it is not what goes into us that causes us to sin but what comes out of our hearts... The evil thoughts, lying, lust, etc. They come from the inside of you, not as a result of what you have ingested. Yes, that is what Jesus Christ taught. Compare that to what you have instead been told that it is the women who dress provocative, or the money you see, or they food in front of you that causes you to sin.. All lies.

Jesus Christ has called His followers to become like Children since only those who become like children will enter the kingdom of God. He did not say those who are righteous only or those who are holy or those who are without sin. Jesus Christ was clear when He declared that only those who become like Children will enter the kingdom of Heaven.

This is what I was talking about earlier! I watch horror movies... I don't have the issues with fear that you do. Am I evil simply because I am able to enjoy, without fear of any kind, that which you obviously can't seem to handle without your mind being burdened by fear and anxieties?

Children are not by nature trusting and obedient. If they were, parents/guardians would have no need to train and discipline them. We all had to undergo training to learn to trust and obey our parents, conform to societal norms etc.
What does this mean when one is then asked to become like a child again? It means one will have to discard all previous programming and trainings applied to condition the spirit and mind into accepting life and conditions.

Grey areas in Christianity? The rules are black and white for everybody. Jesus Christ commands and we obey that which He commanded. There is no grey area and we are not allowed to modify any of what He commanded. That is the Grace of God that was given to us.

Was stunned do you know what I did I deleted the song. What I've noticed when I listen to the song is that it makes we money conscious/ fame conscious which on a normal day won't get me and the song makes me hyperactive. Its not only worldly songs that are demonic but some Gospel songs. The fact that Christ was mentioned those not mean it's him they're referring to. Most of the so called Gospel singers have gone into the occultic world for fame but are using the name of Jesus as a cover up.

Well I believe whenever the spirit tells you to quit something, you have to try your best to do that.

I watch movies and TV,and listen to both xtian and non xtian songs. The important thing is to always focus on maintaining your relationship with God and listen only to what will not corrupt your mind.

Don't you get it? Nothing can cause you to sin if you are a follower of Jesus Christ. Even the water you drink, the food you eat, the steps you take, the movies and songs you watch... they cannot cause you to sin because according to Jesus Christ, what can cause you to sin is what comes from out of your heart... your own intentions.

So each person concentrate on the aspect were they will gain more subscribers, it's left to each customer to select what pleases you in their stuff. All glory belongs to God, so whatever you label the music, to Him already is the glory for all of it, since He is the source of all things.
That said, I know of no place in the Bible where God indeed acknowledges that He is glorified by our singing of songs, our dancing or our clapping hands, supposedly unto Him.
If we are to follow after Jesus Christ's example, we see that the only way to truly bring glory to God is to do God's Will in obedience to Jesus Christ's teachings - Not sing songs or clap hands, which we have no record of Jesus Christ doing while He was on earth with His disciples.

John 17 vs 1 - 6 (ERV)

The evil thoughts, lying, lust, etc. They come from the inside of you, not as a result of what you have ingested. Yes, that is what Jesus Christ taught. Compare that to what you have instead been told that it is the women who dress provocative, or the money you see, or they food in front of you that causes you to sin.. All lies.

Jesus Christ has called His followers to become like Children since only those who become like children will enter the kingdom of God. He did not say those who are righteous only or those who are holy or those who are without sin. Jesus Christ was clear when He declared that only those who become like Children will enter the kingdom of Heaven.

What does it mean? It means only those who are wiling to abandon their previous ideas of what is good and what is bad... Only those wiling to become open-minded can enter His kingdom and entry is from the moment you become His follower, not when you die first.

Child-like humility? Where do you get that from. Children are not humble by nature either. What Jesus Christ commanded is that we BECOME like children. Children are not born humble... by age 2, you learn this. They are not born obedient or trusting -- they are things we are used to training children to become. To become a follower of Jesus Christ, you have to chose to take blindfolds off so you can see what God has for you, and learn anew from Him. You have to unlearn everything you have been previously taught or had to learn from parents, people, society etc. about God and the things of God, so God Himself can write His word anew and His truth instead on the tablets of your heart.
Only then are you able to truly receive from Him and live to His glory. Only then are you freely able to live a life above Sin.

I have read so many people write so much of edification but what I have not read much of is the reason why you look outward for such things.
As followers of Jesus Christ, the One who provides you edification you need is the one who lives inside of you. You do not go to things like movies, books(Not even the Bible), songs etc. for edification. The one who is set as your Teacher/Counselor/Guide/Helper/Comforter is the one meant to provide you all the edification you seek, and need. Any other source of 'edification' is not what Jesus Christ provided for you.

Well,if that's what his goal is, he's already failed.

Humility deals with BEHAVIOR, and not THINKING. If you clearly examine the passage again, the one speaks of BECOMING (IN THINKING) like a child, and the other speaks to MAKING ONESELF(Behavior) humble. Jesus Christ, obviously knew this when He declared that only those who become like children would make the Kingdom of Heaven.

We can also see evidence of why becoming like a child does not mean the same as making oneself humble from reviewing other places where Jesus Christ speaks of the greatest among his servants.

Matthew 23 vs 11-12

12. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

Here Jesus Christ tells us that the greatest of all his servants is the one who adopts a servant BEHAVIOR(note: not THINKING). Obviously, if Jesus Christ had wanted to say that only those who make themselves humble like servants can enter the Kingdom of Heaven, He would have said just that. But no, He didn't because becoming like a child is more than just about making oneself humble like a servant or a child.

Mark 9 vs 33-35

The claim made in the previous passage is further corroborated by the passage from Mark above.

Children have to be trained in order for them to bow in humility to parents/guardians etc. They are not born humble to man... right out of the birth canal... they are born humble, not to man, but to God, the one who made them. And this can be seen in the way they act out according to the design of the one who made them.
So, to say children are born humble in the human context is erroneous.
