You will be seeing dry land all over the River Niger in these areas, talk more of Baro that is farther inland. There is also the problem of rapids and falls in this areas. However, from Onitsha down to the Atlantic ocean, the River Niger becomes deeper and never dries up, thus making it suitable for all year round navigation.

Even if the bigger ships happen to find it difficult to access Onitsha port, there are smaller ocean going vessels that will easily berth at Onitsha. It is the viability of the route that will determine.

Here is the Stat from the nbs that shows that bulk of Lagos taxes come from the formal sector of the economy and the last time I checked they do not dominate that in Lagos.
