I have a solid idea I would like to sell to a firm, but I'm concerned as to how to protect it from being stolen should the deal not be successful after one must have exposed the nitty-gritty of it; and if it finally was, so I'd have an evidence to sue ?

Meet a lawyer sign agreement with the firm and all that

You don’t need any lawyer initially... just make sure the company minutes on ur proposal before you present it to them ... make sure they acknowledge receiving your proposal... if they reject your proposal and coincidentally 30yrs to come... they now implement your idea without having you on the team... my guy you don blow ... that’s when the services of a lawyer will be needed

I’m not a lawyer but I know a lawyer is not required immediately... A lawyer will only arouse the sensitivity of the company , and the company will also get a lawyer immediately to protect the interest of the company...
the wise thing to do is to allow the company minute accepting the proposal that’s an indictment ... and the OP would win any case any where in the world

honestly, I've got no budget for that for now. I know it costs lots about $1000 to 3000 dollars ..

Very simple.... ran with your proposal, that means you were never at the company

Go to the Nigerian patent office, but it doesn't end there. If want quick money, there are sites that buy ideas, only if you have strongly patented it. and if they like it. International patents take longer processing time and costs a lot.

I see people saying you should not involve a lawyer early on....not a good idea. Get a lawyer to prepare a non disclosure and non competition agreement from the beginning. Cos if you have no such agreement then what is the basis of any claim you would have in future if they exploit the idea themselves.

2ndly intellectual property law more often than not does not protect mere ideas. The idea has to be put in some permanent form for protection to arise most times.

Classes of IP are
1. Patents- inventions capable of industrial application.
2. Registered designs- for 3d designs and for fabric patterns.
3. Trademarks- for words, phrases and logos.
4. Copyright- for pictures, videos, writings, recordings etc.

Now each of these have intricacies that most people do not have ideas about.

Get a lawyer to advise you.
