Russia was very powerful...millitarily. Economically, they were far behind the US , and they knew it.

The old Soviet Union, infact, collapsed because they ran out of money to compete millitarily with the USA. Infact from 1945-69, the Soviet union lived on the amount of resources they were able to extort from their soviet satellites. The oil boom of the 1970's...which benfited their economy too as the USSR produced oil....only held off the inevitable for another ten years. By 1985, the USSR's economy was in a serious mess. To the point that people were queuing up for meat and bread .

As for sponsoring Cuba, NK and company....that's a large part of the reason why the Soviet union collapsed. They were spending so much subsidisng these countries in the name of communism. And many of these countries (North Korea is particularly notorious) were using the money from the USSR to pretend all was well.

By 1991, when the USSR told them that the game was up...that there was no more free cash.....that's when many of these countries entered serious economic crisis. (North Korea is currently propped up by China. Cuba lives on tourism, and on the money they earn from hiring out their medical doctors....otherwise it is very very poor).

The problem with communist economies is simple. People are only motivated to be productive if there is a benefit to them. The communists made the mistake of thinking that people were satisfied with only the bare neccesites. They forgot that people love to be productive so that they could earn more and own more stuff. Take that away from them, and you will have a lot of lackasadical workers.

Infact, during the second world war, Russia was able to fight off the Nazis with a lot of help from the USA. The USA was sending weaponry to the USSR in large quantities.

And remember that the USSR was a closed country, so I can't believe most of what you saying because it was America that spread the news about all these so called happenings. I remember a video I saw on YouTube about this same topic some Russians pointed out that it was Gorbachev that crashed the union that was doing well of course.

Well, what I have writtien is not all from the US....I get my info from a wide variety of sources.

To sum up....Communism ran things like a monopoly. Capitalist societies allowed companies to compete.

That's why South Korea is better than North Korea. In South Korea, the government allowed several companies to flourish, to manufacture and innovate, and sell their stuff in return for low taxes, and other benefits. North Korea....everything was run by the state. No competition, no improvement in produictivity, no intiative(you had to follow what the leadership said, or else).

Venezuela suffered from fall in the price of oil and then collasped on it own just like how nigeria is collasping gradually.

Secondly, the president of Venezuela was appointed by Hugo Chavez not america.

Thirdly russia was poor during the soviet union, people were on rations and people were killed, these are not propaganda but real. Go read their history.
