Those against CAMA Amendment are either ill-informed or mischievous.

In sane societies like USA, South Africa, UK, Europe, Australia etc, there are agencies that regulate religious organisations, CSOs and NGOs. Why should Nigeria's be different?

Some people said it is a fight against the church, and I ask, which Church?

If the Bible is right, the Church is the congregation of believers. It is not a building or religious organisation. And believers don't need any formal nomenclature or organisation to worship. The Bible says where two or three are gathered, CHRIST is present. The Bible never said people should establish organisations, neither did the early Christians establish organisations.

Now let's look this....

A man wakes up on a faithful morning, he approaches CAC (Government) to register his organisation, which he names XYZ Church

He lists himself, his wife, Kids or associates as Trustees

He gets certificate from the government to operate...

Yet, he argues with the government that they have no right to regulate the activities of the same organisation that he went to government to register.

He shouts persecution, war against the church and God.

Meanwhile, he is the final authority and CEO in the religious organisation, and won't hesitate to show the exit door to anyone that questions his authority.

The irony is that he abides to similar laws abroad...

As much as I'm not a fan of this administration, I support this CAMA... Although Nigeria politicians are useless

FACT:

FG or any other government cannot regulate the "Church" (congregation of believers). Even the Roman government couldn't regulate the Church.

However, government can only regulate religious organisations (formal organizations) that are registered with the government in line with the constitutional mandate.

The rule is simple, don't register your organisation with government if you don't want to be regulated... Same way you don't register your business and NGO with government if you don't want their regulation...
you are correct

You cant implement such a law without carrying them along in the formulation of such policy.

This is a deliberate attack to control churches especially as the man is an alhaji.

We keep creating problems for ourselves in this country, and foolishly so. From observation, Moslems are very jealous of the Churches, especially in their ability to raise funds. I'm saying this as a neutral.

In a country where there is socio-religious tension already, the ideal thing to do is to involve them on the issues and let them make suggestions. Then you enact a law. That way they are part and parcel of it.

What this country needs most is to accept its diversity and imbibe peaceful coexistence, especially from the top. Such act divides people and it isn't wise.

How MFM Pastor, Olukoya, Connived With Officials Who Stole Church's Funds In UK
It accused Olukoya of illegally meeting a former employee of the charity alleged to have stolen between £150,000 and £190,000 of the Charity’s funds in Nigeria, then entered into an agreement with the individual without any consultation with other trustees.

The United Kingdom Charity Commission has revealed why an interim manager was appointed for the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International in August 2019.

The commission had in March 2018 opened a statutory inquiry into a number of concerns at the church, which included the repeated late filing of financial information and a failure in the administration resulting in opportunities for significant losses to the charity.

The commission in a statement seen by SaharaReporters said the interim manager assumes these duties at the exclusion of the charity’s trustees, stating that the trustees retain control over matters relating to religious activities.

The UK charity regulator claimed it had serious concerns over MFM Chair of Trustees, Dr Daniel Olukoya, and his personal handling of serious incidents.

But the scammers are not forcing anybody to pay tithes or offerings. If you think your pastor is scamming you, them you simply stop paying tithes and offerings to them.

I cannot imagine this senseless law was made by a Christian regime emphasising on wanting to pork nose into the finances of the mosques and churches. Bombs would have been flying around from our Islamic extremist brothers.

Past NYSC DG'S response to the financial complaints of Nigerian youths

The NYSC's Director Generals in recent times have encouraged Youth corpers to desist from relying solely on the monthly allowances from the Federal Government's reserve as they have proved minimal over the years owing to the incessant complaints from preceding corpers.
Other complaints that have gotten to the ears of Management Staff include the ill-luck of numerous Youth corpers during service, pinning down to the organization in question that they served at. Many have described their service year as a waste of time relating it to the ridiculous amount of money aquired during service.
Thus, Youth Corpers have been sensitised on the common reality of serving at a place lower than expectation and how they can tackle the dilemma. Public activists and Youth empowerment institutions have further encouraged Corpers to engage in convenient side hustles, preferably online based, if they are too displeased with the events at hand, because the Nigerian government has proved incompetent over the years, hence, cannot be relied upon.
Certain business Organisations have further displayed interests in the idea and given their full support through investment incentives and convenient online jobs offered on a platter of gold. Recharge And get Paid VTU Agency, Cryptocurrency institutions, and WordPress are prominent examples of companies bidding aspiring youths to invest in them with minimal funds and get rewards of incentives, job offers and international trips. A very notable effort at remedying the prospective damages of the Federal Government's laxity towards it's youth.
Thousands of Nigerian youths have enjoyed, and are still enjoying these incentives offered by online institutions such as the aforementioned.
National Youth Service Corpers and Nigerian youths in General are advised to invest in online companies of these nature with minimal funds, get registered and start up online based ventures, hence becoming their own enterpreneurs while making sure to always remember that they are truly the leaders of tommorow.
Miss. Ochem Ifeoma, the Team leader of Gift Sketches RAGP group gives words of wisdom to Nigerian Youths...

In as much as the act might not seem to be perceived right by my fellow Christians, I don't think there is anything wrong with it. It is operating in most developed nations we are looking up to and we applaud that. More so, some of the church G.Os are abusing some processes of accountability and transparency under the guise of being the mouth piece of God.

FG should first manage their finance before looking for who to help

Dont mind them!

Kaduna Refinery was never audited since inception, it gets 60,000 Barrels of Crude Oil everyday, the Oil disappears and yet the Organisation syill colelcts #64Billion from Govt coffers yearly!

Anyway, l dont have a problem with auditing ANY organisation, as long as the Law is applied EQUALLY to Christian and Islamic Organisations.
We also awant to know all the funds that Quatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc gives to those Islamic Houses in the North and how/where the Money is spent, not just Churches alone.

Please name the agency responsible for regulating CHURCHES in the US and how the 'regulations' are done.

Thank you.

I think your question is disingenuous

No one is "regulating" churches in their spiritual activity

This has to do purely with MONEY and FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Charities which is what Churches are ,are subject to all kinds of rules in the USA and these are regulated by various legislation and bodies

e.g the USA has sanctions in place against certain countries like Iran, Cuba etc that means that churches and other Charites in general canot make donations that are prohibited by sanctions

With regard to their Financial activities they are under the purview of the Inland Revenue IRS
https://theconversation.com/trump-says-the-irs-regulates-churches-too-much-heres-why-hes-wrong-77605
In the UK it is the Charities Commission which incidentally has been scrutinizing the activities of several Nigerian churches in the UK

e.g KICC
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/577308/kingsway_international_christian_centre.pdf
Regulatory action taken
The inquiry issued an order on 16 February 2011 under the then section 18 (1) (vi) of the Charities Act 1993
(now section 76 (3) (f) of the Charities Act 2011) to prevent the trustees from entering into any investment
of the charity’s property without the written approval of the commission. The order was discharged on 29
July 2011 after the ex-trustee resigned, and the FSA had obtained a restraining injunction and freezing order
on 11 February 2011 in civil proceedings in which the FSA also sought a restitution order.

Christ Embassy
The Inquiry appointed an interim manager, Rod Weston of Mazars LLP, (the IM) on 6 August 2014 under section 76(3)(g) of the Act to take over the management and administration of the charity to the exclusion of trustees. The trustees were not excluded from performing the religious and/or spiritual functions connected with their roles as Pastors within the charity.

It is clear that the financial activities of many churches lack transparency and often are criminal.

Churches are registered as charities making them exempt from many taxes and so their financial affairs cannot be hidden from the public
