Nri, what is it?
A town, a cult, a group?
Omoibo says it is a dynasty of king-priest rulers.

In digging into the issue of Nri I discovered three things.

1. Basden is the single most experienced and non-biased writer to reveal Ibo to the world.

2. Actually, before Basden in 1900s, Gustavus Vassa had narrated about Eboe to the world as well. Basden's work added more controversy to authenticity of Olaudah Equaino as an Iboman.

3. The people of Aro subdivided Ibo country into two parts - Aro; and the others! Aro being the arrowhead. Aro ruled over 'others' through the people known as Abam. Even the priests of Nri were under Abam, who in turn were under Aro.

These three discoveries, particularly 1 and 2 will be highlited by Basden.

No Eze Nri has ever visited Ooni of Ife. The modern Nri town is currently being ruled by a regent. He has been there for a few years now.

Don't mistake that fake Eze Eri, with Eze Nri. That is just a fraud being carried out by Aguleri people, knowing that to the uninformed, such a title that sounds so much like EZE NRI, could be mistaken for the real deal

Nri people have never been under Abam or any of the Aro towns. Even up till today, Eze Aro will always defer to Eze Nri on cultural matters.
Forget about these people that write nonsense. Some days ago I was even reading an Awka writer that insinuated that Nri people were under Awka, all because of the modern trend of making ones people appear almighty.

Till tomorrow, Eze Aro will never challenge Eze Nri on cultural matters.

Aro is relatively recent, compared to Nri. There are more than 200 towns and villages in Igbo land today, of Nri ancestry. All these happened hundreds of years ago, way before Aro came to the scene.

Eze Aro cannot really be said to be greater than Benin Oba, or the Ooni of Ife, but Eze Nri title is about the only title that can be said to be greater than the Benin Oba or the Ooni of Ife. Portuguese records back this up

The Eze Nri you’ve been screaming about is the child of Eze Eri. — I hope you won’t deny your history now. cheesy

So, Nri’s father, who is Eze Eri, did come to Ife to pay homage to their FATHER, the Ooni Ife who is the most powerful monarch (at least) in the Guinea.

Cheers!

So why did the Benin elders clearly say that the OGHENE to the east of Benin and a PAPAL figure, was the supremo of all the rulers IN THESE PARTS.

The Aguleris who are obviously not proud of their immediate ancestor AGULU, are fooling you with their Eze Eri scam.

Go to any major record of solid repute and know whether you will ever find Eze Eri kingdom.

Enumerate what this Eze Eri does for Ndigbo. I can enumerate what Eze NRI does.
These are people trying to use the solid record of NRI to intimidate you into believing them. They are related to the Nris. They are descended from one of Nri's brothers known as AGULU, and of late, they have been running this new Eze Eri scam, knowing that Eri, was our common ancestor and has been made popular, by NRI exploits of old.

Why didn't the Benin elders mention them?

Tomorrow you go publishing the rubbish from Aro or Awka where they are claiming to be superior to Nri, and think any serious historian will give you that time of day

Because the "east" was described (by the Binis) as the place from where the sun rises. This is exactly the religious epithet of Ife.

Moreover, the "east" of this account is understood by ALL scholars non-literally.

Today, all scholars have come to establish that the "east" was in the religious sense of Ife as the Oodaiye ibi ojumo tii mo wa — that is, Ife: the source of the world from where the sun rises .

I have established this again and again, and you haven't had any scholarly input to challenge it. See HERE again for a refresher.

Important Questions For You:

(1) The account states that the Ogane's kingdom was 20 moons' journey away from Benin.

Was Nri kingdom 20 moons' journey away from Benin?? Can you put forward any computation (based on historical data) that proves this??

(2) The account states that the Ogane sends a small piece of shiny brass cross to the incoming Oba of Benin as an indication of his approval.

Is there any thing which indicates that Benin kingdom boasts of any such small piece of brass cross as being from (or at least in relation to) Nri kingdom?? Cite an academic material, not your imaginations as usual.

(3) The account states that the Ogane sends a brass helmet to the incoming Oba of Benin as an indication of his approval.

Is there anything of this nature from the Nri kingdom to the Benin Kingdom historically and supported by an academic material??
.

Let's start first with these three questions which you must answer. grin

It seems as though you enjoy the thrashing I normally give you.

Pazienza, Igboid please resend a picture you once sent to this forum a few years ago.
It's the picture of an OraEri regent taken in the 1960s in which he was wearing the "Benin" facemask around his neck.

I need it, to slaughter this ugly Yologba chick right. It will form part of my response to her.

You need to stop the distraction and answer those important questions that are really pertinent to the issue here. grin

And Benin mask proves nothing. The Attah Igala also wears one around his neck as a re-enactment of the historical ?looting of some of the artifacts.

You are one irredeemable dunce. The first thing you should have asked is this. What does the ancient Obas of Benin, Attahs of Igala and Ezes of Oraeri and a number of other Igbo kings have in common?

Anyway, please Pazienza dig up that image and send to this thread. I have a lot more to reveal

You’re a MUMU man. grin

Whatever it is that your Ezes have in common, wearing an Iya-Oba pendant does not make them or the Attah-Igala the Ogane.

The account states nowhere that the Ogane wears an Iya-Oba pendant around his neck. You have to stop making stuffs up. cheesy

(1) The account states that the Ogane's kingdom was 20 moons' journey away from Benin.

(2) Is there any thing which indicates that Benin kingdom boasts of any such small piece of brass cross as being from (or at least in relation to) Nri kingdom?? Cite an academic material, not your imaginations as usual.

Has any historical record ever mentioned the word Nri in connection with the word Benin?
There are numerous records in which the word Ife is mentioned in relation to Benin.

Nri is a town. It was headquarter for various priest cults. It never had a king. It may have had a chief priest but never a king. The priests travel around Ibo country coronating kings. There is also mention of Abam people.

While Nri is a town, Abam are people.

Abam was misspelt here as Akpam.

Very good!
Igala colonized Igbo and installed chiefs over Igboland. The priests of Nri themselves were import from Igala. The pectoral mask in thr chest of that Eze Nri is evidence that he, thr Eze Nri, is an origin of Igala. Eze Nri is a Igala creation. They coronated Igala chiefs that ruled Igboland. This is why anything to do with Nri is only in places where Igala influence is found, ie, Onitsha. You cannot find Nri in Abia or Imo because Igala did not install chiefs and priest there.

Igbo enwe Eze. What you call Igbo kings were actually Igala Chiefs.

Here is Obiano dressed in traditional Igala costume when he was conferred chieftaincy in Aguleri. Look at the druumers and the drums, these are traditional Igala drums and way of dressing.

Here, I have the image in records.
I have all the images related to this history in my records.

Dont just throw an image to tell a story, give full reference of it as well so people can get the background.

Thanks for sending out that picture. I need it for the reply that I am preparing.

By the way, Oraeri is centuries older than Igala kingdom. The traditional ruler of Oraeri also goes by the title EZE NRI, because they are related to the core Nri people of Agukwu, ENugwu-Ukwu, Enugwu-Agid and Nawfia.

Oraeri is an offshoot of Nri, and in fact they are the people directly responsible for the Igbo-Ukwu artifacts.

Oraeri is centuries older than Ife. Oraeri is centuries older than Benin. Oraeri is centuries older than the Igala kingdom.

Oraeri is possibly about the same age mate with Igodomigodo, both set up by the Nris.

The artifacts that they were responsible for, have already proven the fact that they predate these other kingdoms/empires.

The day Igbos will start taking Benin and Ife claims of matching Igbos in historical sophistication serious, is the day Benin and Ife can prove that they are as old as Igodomigodo or Oraeri (both of which are younger than the core Nri).
