Equivalent does not in many way or shape mean same capability.

The F16 is tried and tested and PROVEN unlike the simulated much lower quality JF17 Pakistan manufactured in association with Chinese.

It's very cheap in comparison.
The F-16 was delivered to the USAF in 1979
The JF-17 was delivered to the PAF in 2007
The JF -17 main selling point is to be a cheaper ,cost effective , multi role aircraft not to compete with the F-16 it came about because dueto political consideration the US reneged on a deal to sell F-16s to the PAF.
So far the PAF have participated in one aerial combat against the Indian Air force and it held its own.
I don't understand the point you are trying to make
the JF-17 is a good plane for Nigeria's current needs maybe in the future when the Economy is on better footing Nigeria can acquire the SU27/ 30 but a $30 M + $$ for parts and training that is not cheap.

One thing I would bet on is that the NAF will have a clause option for upgrades with the PAF [perhaps during the first PDM of the 3.

But if NAF had gone for F-16, you'd still complain about US ammunition that's it's too expensive and we can get more value of that with JF17 which is similar.
No offense, but sometimes I feel you just enjoy being controversial and trying to criticize every single asset we're acquiring.
I too have my personal reservations about NAF but let's not delve into that today.

It's annoying.
One mark of an intelligent person is knowing when to contribute in a conversation and when to stop doing so.
Yes I sometimes love the way he analyses some equipment. I'll give it to him, he's analytical but not always factual.
You can't subject your personal preference on others. Let's be honest with ourselves, NAF is just playing catch up but the strides and landmarks they've achieved in the past 4 years, they've not done that in recent times.
If only this current CAS is given the chance to embark on a long term project for 20 years with funds, the rest would be story.

MNJTF FACILITATES RETURN OF NURSE ABDUCTED BY ISWAP

1. In consonance with the mandate of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) which includes to "Facilitate within the limits of it's capabilities, humanitarian operations and the delivery of assistance to the affected populations", the Task Force has facilitated the return of a Nigerian Nurse (name and organization withheld) who was abducted by ISWAP and held in captivity since the beginning of 2020.

2. The nurse who was incarcerated in one of ISWAP's strong holds in the Lake Chad bolted to safety and freedom, in the aftermath of a joint air interdiction conducted by the MNJTF and national partners. According to him, "after bombs and rockets from the aircrafts landed and everywhere exploded in flames, both terrorists and hostages ran for dear life. I had to take my chance. I am grateful to God that I was able to escape". The nurse then made his way to a village in Niger Republic and was promptly handed over to security agents in Sector 4 of the MNJTF.

3. The airlift and hand- over of the nurse to Nigerian authorities was preceded by medical examination conducted to determine the state of health of the victim after spending 8 months in the horrific and squalid conditions which he had to endure during the period of his captivity in ISWAP enclave.

4. The MNJTF wishes to reassure populations in the Lake Chad Basin of it's determination to provide security and facilitate development efforts being spearheaded by the respective national governments and international development partners.

In the course of the operation, troops recovered several Improvised Explosive Device making materials at the location including 2 scales, 6 rocket launcher bombs, one bag of fertilizer, half a bag of gun powder, 10 locally made hand grenades, one Rocket Propelled Grenade bomb fuse, one locally made Rocket Launcher, 2 Improvised Explosive Devices,13 Improvised rocket bombs, amongst others. The camp was subsequently destroyed while troops are equally combing the surrounding forests for fleeing members of the sect.

Your perception and what you feel is entire your prerogative.

What l said is that this airframe is not on the same quality in any way as the F16. That's a simple truth.

We say where l am from, " Cheap article de spoil belle " Using the analogy of cars from established long-term quality manufacturers. A used Mercedes-Benz will you more long-term reliability and perfomance than a cheap one from Pakistan.

I have noticed the very much older Apha jets joint European manufactured have given us far more reliability and effectiveness than the recently procured and expensive Chinese made F-7 (Mig21)

You have lost the context.

The context is best value and most effective use of scarce resources.

If the USAF can deploy the OV10 Bronco to great effect albeit it upgraded in fighting against ISIS in Mosul. Then l would be very happy in procuring 60 of these aircraft for the NAF that could be be acquired for next to nothing.

That would be a complete game changer in the NE.

I could add that Peruvian Airforce have replaced there over priced and expensive A29 Tucano and replaced them with the Korean KAI K1 attack aircraft.

One of the problem with our procurement in the Nigerian armed forces. Is we simply do not buy enough to make an over riding impact. Our procurement for aircraft should be in multiples of at least 20.

Our procurement of Armoured fighting vehicles multiple variations, should be in hundreds not multiliples of 10/20 as we have done with the recent Chinese procurement. If Indeed we want to have long lasting sustainable impact in this war on terror and win it comprehensively.

This frame looks capable and available and most assuredly BETTER VALUE, if Indeed we are talking $10/12 million. Then one should expect complete delivery within 12 months not 6 years.

My issue has always been about " BEST VALUE " and the availability. We need assets desperately NOW not Tomorrow because we are fighting a current bloody existential threat and war.

No amount of spin can hide the fact that we are seriously struggling on multiliple fronts on this war.

It seems similar to the USAF Bronco see YouTube clip below. It's been around for donkey years. Instead of the A29 l would have procured the Bronco at dirt cheap used prices for an airframe that's been retired.

That means acquisition will be in multiples of 20 maybe 60 aircraft. That would make a huge impact. Using the approach most effective use of scarce resources for the greatest impact.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gP8sqgqEFw

If we complemented the acquisition with 50 Wing Loong II UAV's. Then we would have 24/7/365 complete situational aware and offensive response over the entire areas of contention in the North.

I don't think so. The last ones were made in '86! I doubt you'd want to risk stressing the fuselage with its full payload of a modest 1.1 T,4X less than the TAV. Also the Bronco frankly is underpowered with its uprated engines maxing out at 1020 shp still way below the TAV at 1070 shp..

The aircraft was underpowered especially when loaded down with ordnance
https://www.avgeekery.com/the-incredible-ov-10-bronco-kicking-enemy-tail-for-50-years/

Aircrews found the Bronco maneuverable, with the spoilers providing an excellent rate of roll, but it was underpowered; if one of the engines was lost at airspeeds below 220 KPH (120 knots), standard procedure was to punch out immediately. As the Bronco almost always operated at low altitude, going into a dive to build up speed was not usually an option.
http://www.airvectors.net/avbronco.html

With its two 715-hp Garrett T76-G-410/412 turboprops...Even so, the OV-10 was generally regarded as underpowered, which led to its eventual demise.
https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/a19887/ov-10-war-isis/

Better to pay 12-15 mn$ max for a 12 ship TAV squadron or 144-180 mn$ and wait 6 mos or a year for full delivery.
