Bagehot:Anywhere in Yorubaland If a girl report to Baale that her right to inheritance was denied the family is in trouble. The Baale will involve the customary court. |

BabaRamota1980:CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF IGBO AND YORUBA? IT MEANS IGBO DO THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENT, IT DONT MEAN, U ARE BETTER IN TERMS OF WOMEN RIGHTS, IT JUST MEAN U DO IT YOUR WAY AND WE DO IT OUR WAY. EITHER WAY, WOMEN DO INHERIT PROPERTIES IN IGBO LAND, IN THEIR HUSBAND HOUSE AND COLLECT SETTLEMENT FROM THEIR FATHER HOUSE. |

golddare:IT IS INEFFECTIVE AND HOLDS NO REGARD. THE ANCIENT IGBO PEOPLE HAVE THEIR LAWS WHICH IS RECOGNISED BY THE NIGERIA CONSTITUTION. A YORUBA MAN SEATING IN SUPREME COURT CANNOT AFFECT OUR CUSTOMS AND TRADITION. |

pocohantas:My dear, I didnt come here to argue with u. It is a known fact that many ladies even get married without having a job, some were established by their husbands. In many homes across the country, husbands still run most of the bills. In relationship, same issue. I dated my woman from her second year, placed her on monthly upkeep money and took care of her school bills, she finished, married her, enrolled her into training she is running now to establish her once she is done. My two best friends are doing same. Bill sharing is not yet balanced here. We are getting there, so we will get there.. When i married, I paid all the bills my self. The wedding expenses were all carried out by me. One of the guys I know who married few weeks ago, he took care of almost 90 percent of the wedding bills. He is the one trying to establish his wife now after they got married since she is not getting a job. In Nigeria, it is quite okay for a lady to get married while not having sufficient money but not okay for a man to do so. I just gave u why this idea was started initially and since we are migrating out of it, we also need to balance the bills on both genders to reduce the stress on men financially. It is easier for a made man to marry a broke girl but very hard for a made lady to marry a broke guy. U and i know this is fact. These things got to change too. |

Princedapace:It is not us that told you to marry very dependent women and take care of 99.9% of your wedding bills. Carry your cross and stop whining. However, it remains a myth that most Nigerian men are carrying over 80% of expenses. Where una see the money? All the women selling in the market and taking insults from market leaders are doing it because they have rich horsebands like you that can shoulder 80% of recurrent bills without flinching. C’mon go sleep. ![]() |

Akacollins7:Numbers 27:1-11 27Then the daughters of Zelophehad came forward. Zelophehad was son of Hepher son of Gilead son of Machir son of Manasseh son of Joseph, a member of the Manassite clans. The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 2They stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and all the congregation, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, and they said, 3‘Our father died in the wilderness; he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the Lord in the company of Korah, but died for his own sin; and he had no sons. 4Why should the name of our father be taken away from his clan because he had no son? Give to us a possession among our father’s brothers.’ 5 Moses brought their case before the Lord. 6And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 7The daughters of Zelophehad are right in what they are saying; you shall indeed let them possess an inheritance among their father’s brothers and pass the inheritance of their father on to them. 8You shall also say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies, and has no son, then you shall pass his inheritance on to his daughter. 9If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the nearest kinsman of his clan, and he shall possess it. It shall be for the Israelites a statute and ordinance, as the Lord commanded Moses.’ You just made an ignorant excuse... |

pocohantas:Lol... Me too. When I see the crop of Igbos on nairaland, I don't believe it. The ones who I'm friend with are nice, accommodating, easy going, hard working and wouldn't engage in tribalism. We talk everything ranging from politics through history. Nairaland makes it unbelievable that some Igbos are as this. Unfortunately, what I read here is now corrupting me. |

IGBO PEOPLE ARE HIGHLY ADVANCE. IN IGBOLAND, A WIFE MARRIED INTO THE FAMILY HAS MORE RIGHT OVER ANCESTRAL LAND THAN THE DAUGHTERS OF THE LAND, WHO ARE MARRIED OFF. THE WIFE INHERIT IT, BUT THE DAUGHTERS CANNOT. WE DONT WANT A SITUATION WHERE DAUGHTERS WILL BE COMING TO FIGHT DAUGHTER INLAW FOR ANCESTRAL LAND AND PROPERTIES. THAT IS Y THEY ARE ENCOURAGED TO SIEZE THE ONE IN THEIR HUSBAND HOUSE AND LEAVE THE ONE IN THEIR FATHER HOUSE TO THEIR BROTHER AND WOMEN(WIFE) COMING INTO THE FAMILY TO INHERIT. |
