Rice is very affordable in Kano a friend bought bags of rice just yesterday each for N9300 for his wife tuwon shinkafa Bussiness which he used to buy not less than 10 bags for her every two weeks. How can rice become unaffordable just overnight?

This is kind of news that hit the front page within a blink of an eye.

The prize is high but still very affordable to people of Kano state!
Guy Gerra here that local rice price and it straight from the farm
un stonnee and it still with the brown coating

and if you are truly arewa like you claim to be you would know tuwo shinikafa rice is for that purpose alone unless you like rice pudding

Foreign rice is now 27.000.Nigerians are very greedy people you can’t ban foreign product to allow them to gain market, they would increase the price and make life unbearable for their own people
Buhari need to open the border, these farmers are too greedy
i was telling someone that Nigerians are wicked.. I pointed out that banning foreign rice gives the local farmers leverage to make profit because of the vast market but not the exploitation that they are melting on the citizens.. He simply said the prices will fall... Closure of border is over a year now yet the price hasn't fall.

Stop blaming farmers.Do you know what they pass through before producing these foods? you stay in your office and have a minimum wage and agitate for more by embarking on strike, but who pays farmers any salary at the end of the month? most Nigerian farmers use crude, inefficient farming methods. The weather is unpredictable, costly farming inputs, sometimes there is a glut leading to price crash. do you know the loss farmers made as a result of the dry spelll this August as many of them lost their crops? You expect food prices to remain the same while every other items price keep rising.

Give US, Canada, Japan economy to oga and in less than 2 years they will be in recession. The forces of nature is not smiling on him. Any thing him touch na recession. Earthquake, sunami, low crude oil price, corona go happen that will crush the economy.

U know that in Nigeria, d law of demand and supply doesn't work
It works and it's working fine here. Do you realize that the supply of foreign rice has always been a bridge for the supply gap we have with local rice. With the border closure, demand has outgrown supply and of course it leads to higher prices. We have more rice mills but rice farming is still majorly at subsistence level and seasonal. It's still planting season. We have to wait till harvesting season before we can get reasonable prices. This is the issue we have with most local crops, a good example being yam which is very scarce and costly too presently.
What should have been done is to go into mechanized farming to ensure a stable and plenteous supply before closing the border. But because the immediate beneficiaries are northerners, it was done the way it was.

If someone turns to cannibalism due to rice scarcity then such needs to face the law.
