..yes he is right...except u have provided a carbon brush that can tap 960MW of electricity..

You are right...
But I think they are electromagnets-
coils of wire wound round an iron core that produces magnetic effect when excited, not permanent magnets.
..ofcourse...

You listed elephants, lions, hippos, leopards etc but only snap an ostrich and a monkey.

Wildlife Museum
In the museum, skins of wild animals are on display(these skins are from animal that either died of natural causes or killed by poachers) such as skin of a big python that stretches from the floor to the ceiling of the building, a huge glutted crocodile, a big egg of an ostrich, snakes and large spiders.
I doubt you visited the park, from your pictures, where you visited is the head office.....

So i'll ask you this question....Did you visit Roan gate, oli camp?
if not... you only went for an excursion, not adventure.
Good work all the same.

here are some pictures(with 'me' in them) at my time at KLNP.

Is there a good hotel close to the park and dam for tourists? In your estimation, how safe is Niger state and the area for a non native tourist? Are there flights into the state? I'm asking as a prospective visitor to kainji.

I think irrigation via the dam should boost agric activities in that area, pls confirm.
1)there are comfortable lodges within the park....but be ready to stay without power . You should also stack up your food supplies( if you intend to stay within the park for some time)
2)yes, there should be( i'm not quite sure)...the journey from lagos is relatively safe...Lagos-Ibadan-illorin-Niger
3)quite safe, very peaceful...plus there are rangers in the camp that can protect you.
4)Not quite, Niger is predominantly arid...crops that are drought resistant are sure to thrive..............Agricultural activities are high as well.

Dude for fvk sake. . . Try to read meaning into a Post bfor jumping to a conclusion.

He never said that he went to WildLife Management and the Kainji Lake whatever in A-Day. . . Read again

After my Trip to Federal College Of Wildlife
Management for my research.
I went back to lodge in the hotel to jot
down my result and freshen up.
The next day i visited the Kainji Lake
National Park and the Kainji hydroelectric
power plant.

So be Calming down a-Little dude.

Contrary to popular belief it is not the water that directly produces Electricity.

Electricity is produced by a device called a turbine. Turbines contain metal coils surrounded by magnets. When the magnets spin over the metal coils, electricity is produced. Turbines are located inside dams. The falling water spins the magnets.

Thus, the water only spin the turbines which in turn generates electricity.

most people know the water is only used as a force to spin the turbines...

Have you ever taken a Trip from the administrative office of kainji Lake to Kainji hydroelectric power admin office? You can cover the distance in a day when you leave very early morning its not impossible.

i have travel a 7-8 hours distance within the Niger state(sulaja-Ilorin). is SpaceX trying to say the distance between the two office is over 7 hours travel ?
that distance is the longest i have gone within a state apart from Benue state.

Nice thread op, it's sad to see the dam is still the same as it was 11years ago when I visited, 8turbines were installed and functional,i was hoping the remaining 4 would be installed when we had a national power crisis years ago,now I doubt the government has any future plan of running that plant at it's maximum output, turbines serve similar purpose as the engine for generators, just in place of chemical energy it uses hydro, which pushes the blades of the turbine, spinning the shafts which rotates the shaft of a generating coil(copper wire and magnet),creating electricity just like a simple dynamo or the alternator of a car.

They told you this crap there or you made it up?

Electricity generation follows the same principle

Whether I-better-pass my neighbor or windmill or hydro.

It is basically the motion of magnet between coils of wire or the movement of the coil between magnets.

The force of water from the dam keeps the magnet or coil moving same way the petrol in your i better pass my neighbor keeps it moving after you have initially pulled the rope to trigger motion. It is also same way a wndmill rotates to keep it moving

It is only batteries that follow a diff pattern, because it is largely chemicals that react to generate the electricity.

Solar panels also generate electricity using a diff principle, there are transducers/naturally occurring elements who produce electricity when exposed to light, which is what is used in creating the photo cells that form the block of your solar panel

Science is beautiful....na all these basic principles oyinbo package together in exchange for expensive dollars...Africans need to start looking inward.

Thus, the water only spin the turbines which in turn generates electricity.

Permit me to say this...
Electricity is actually produced from a generator and not turbine. A generator is an electromechanical device made up two components. A mechanical component(rotor which is made up of magnets) and electrical components(stator which is made up series of coils). In simple terms the rotor rotates inside the stator. this produces an electromagnetic field, with an induced current from an external source(Direct Current), electricity(AC) is actually produced. This electricity is actually small but sent to a power tranformer which increases the voltage to 330kv and then sent out to the transmission station. in this case What turns the rotor inside the generator to rotate is the turbines and what turns the turbines to rotate the rotor is water..
Kinetic enerygy from the falling water is converted to mechanical energy by the turbines as they rotate then converted to electrical enery by the generator
Hope it helps...

The damn was built by an Italian firm,I think the country borrowed money to finance the project which resulted to our debt that was cleared during Okonjo Iweala as minister.

Go back to that post and read the bolded part. Is it the falling water that spins the turbines? Endeavor to understand issues before commenting.

My Tour to Kainji Hydropower station
After i was done with the Kainji Lake National Park i decided to go on a tour to Kainji dam. As i was about to enter i was told i cannot enter until i was given a permit. I was directed to the administrative office which was a little bit far. After obtain permission i was allowed to enter.

Even at that i was given laid down rules including no snapping, but i manouver to snap some pics

what is the reason behind not taking pictures

Hi Sir, I want to make enquiry on what is required for University students to make Field trip to the Kanji Hydroelectric power plant. Any connect? Or procedure we can follow.

I believe I don't have to travel all the way from Abeokuta to Niger state for this logistics information. Please help

I'll really love to visit.
