1)there are comfortable lodges within the park....but be ready to stay without power . You should also stack up your food supplies( if you intend to stay within the park for some time)
2)yes, there should be( i'm not quite sure)...the journey from lagos is relatively safe...Lagos-Ibadan-illorin-Niger
3)quite safe, very peaceful...plus there are rangers in the camp that can protect you.
4)Not quite, Niger is predominantly arid...crops that are drought resistant are sure to thrive..............Agricultural activities are high as well.

Nice thread op, it's sad to see the dam is still the same as it was 11years ago when I visited, 8turbines were installed and functional,i was hoping the remaining 4 would be installed when we had a national power crisis years ago,now I doubt the government has any future plan of running that plant at it's maximum output,turbines serve similar purpose as the engine for generators,just in place of chemical energy it uses hydro,which pushes the blades of the turbine,spinning the shafts which rotates the shaft of a generating coil(copper wire and magnet),creating electricity just like a simple dynamo or the alternator of a car.

Permit me to say this...
Electricity is actually produced from a generator and not turbine. A generator is an electromechanical device made up two components. A mechanical component(rotor which is made up of magnets) and electrical components(stator which is made up series of coils). In simple terms the rotor rotates inside the stator. this produces an electromagnetic field, with an induced current from an external source(Direct Current), electricity(AC) is actually produced. This electricity is actually small but sent to a power tranformer which increases the voltage to 330kv and then sent out to the transmission station. in this case What turns the rotor inside the generator to rotate is the turbines and what turns the turbines to rotate the rotor is water..
Kinetic enerygy from the falling water is converted to mechanical energy by the turbines as they rotate then converted to electrical enery by the generator

After i was done with the Kainji Lake National Park i decided to go on a tour to Kainji dam. As i was about to enter i was told i cannot enter until i was given a permit. I was directed to the administrative office which was a little bit far. After obtain permission i was allowed to enter.

Even at that i was given laid down rules including no snapping, but i manouver to snap some pics
