Lionel Messi's future is dominating football and one Stuttgart fan has taken matters into his own hands to try to help his club sign the Barcelona star.

Tim Artmann has set up a fundraising page with a target of €900million (£805m) to try to stump up the cash for the Bundesliga side to acquire the Argentine international.

After five days since its creation only €262 (£234) has been donated to the cause, but Artmann has revealed that if the target is not met or Messi departs to another club the donated amount will be given to a water charity.

The description on the GoFundMe page reads: 'We VfB fans are collecting money to pay for Lionel Messi's transfer.

'In the event that the planned amount is not reached on time or Lionel Messi joins another club, 100 per cent of the money raised will be donated to Viva con Agua.'

After seeing the fundraising effort, one Twitter user wrote: 'This is the best thing I’ve seen all day,' while another added: 'Now this legendary.'

Manchester City emerged as the favourites to seal Messi's signature after the star told Barcelona, via fax, he wanted to leave.

In response to the current status of the fundraiser, one fan quipped: 'Pays for the fax machine.'

LaLiga have ruled that Messi's astronomical £630million (€700m) release clause is still active, given that the player did not issue his desire to trigger an option to leave for free before June 10.

Seriously, some clubs or let me say some coaches don't even have players to club relationship. How will Barcelona that Messi serve for over 20year now be thinking of battle the same Messi in court over leaving or not. He is a CLUB LEGEND for God sake. Treat him as such. The only party that has something to lose here is Barcelona. either sell Messi for 1billion or so, the club will lose it respect, fans and identity. Messi continues with his career. I just believe that when Messi said he wants out, the best thing the club would have done is support him on this decision and be planning a ceremonial match on his behalf now and not all this legal battle. Shame on Barcelona

am not surprised at all about this drama. Madrid has the same issue too. Ronaldo almost got caught in this same mess. La Liga club basically don't care too much about their best players once the end is almost near for them

The primary target of the fundraising is water for charity. Wise man used Messi's saga to help humanity.
God bless you Artmann.

BTW, it will be a great honor and privilege for Messi if he gets to play for a great club like Stuttgart.

Absolutely not, it's a totally different scenario. Ronaldo had a release clause of €1B, Perez reduced it because Ronaldo had his mind set on leaving. Barcelona are doing the opposite. Most of Real Madrid legends always leave without issues, Raul, Casillas, Pepe and Arbeloa, all left for free. Although I don't like how they weren't celebrated but still the club honoured their decision to leave even Kaka left for peanuts after he made it clear he wanted to return to Milan.

.everybody is jus taking their own attention in this messi saga...the other goat left for juve and nobody even noticed and the real GOAT is about to move on and all clubs in the world wants to trend about signing the real GOAT..
its only bayern that have officially turned down messi joining them, wont be surprised if madrid throws bid for messi and also if cr7 accepts pay cut to allow juve have a chance to sign messi..

My guy stop to buy Ronaldo some relevancy where there are no space for him. Ronaldo's case was simple. No release clause and there were no challenges. It was only Juventus and Manchester United that were going for him. Stop this relevancy that you are trying to accredited Ronaldo.
