What are you saying? Kindly send links on threads that has been opened about Balogun and Idumota being a fraudulent market. My advice is not for you as it appears you might be a trader in Alaba for all I care. My advice is for any one that has never been to Alaba market. Never attempt to go there to buy anything.

The way I felt that day if it's possible to run a daily advert to stop new people from going to that market I would do it. The same receipt has always been used. Divine Grace Investment. My friend has both used electronics from Lawanson and got home it didn't work as expected and she returned it and collected her money in full no dragging. But in Alaba, the money you just paid now now, see me see you I haven't touched your electronic is none refundable. Anybody calling that a business is a criminal.

So how do they make sales ?

Cos I vee known alaba for years now, mind u am not doing business in alaba , even Lawson, computer village and idumota traders do go to alaba to buy and resell

Cos the last time I went there they are doing big business there , almost every building has a commercial bank , it's a big market , our problem mostly is greed and not going inside market , also not buying from established shops

This pattern can be likened to the plague the world is facing now, COVID-19, you know the story of where it started, it was not contained within the demographic space it was discovered, and boom! It becomes a pandemic. Igbos are like that virus corrupting other tribes wherever they go.

I guess igbos are the scammers in Ikeja computer village. If igbos infested other tribe in scamming, who infested Nigeria people in Owoida, collecting money for job already paid for.

There is a circle where evil go round from tribe to tribe in this country, Kidnapping was known to start in Anmabra, today the whole North is a den for kidnapping. We know the tribe known from coperative and executive begging and political assasination, today everywhere in Nigeria its rampant. Like i said its one country and we learn from each other whether good or bad.

This one is medicine after death. As far as there are no punitive measures in place to deal with those dubious miscreants in that market. My best advice is for a new person is to stay away.

Don't attempt to buy Electronics as a new person in the market. You're better off buying from Lawanson or any other market.

I lost #60k in that market. And I swore never to step into that market.

And this is not about tribe. The main guy that scammed me was Haruna then supported by my Igbo brothers. I see it as the culture of the market. The tales from first timers experience in that market has always been horrible. And don't try to blame it on the guys doing osoafia. They are in Idumota and Balogun too. In fact I use them alot. They earn commissions from the stores and each time I make use of any of them I still tip them because they save me alot of time especially when I'm looking for a particular design of wears.

Like I said earlier, fraud is the culture they have adopted in Alaba market as a virtue.

If you have never been to Alaba before to buy Electronics better stay away. You're 99.99% likely to be scammed. So why take that chance?

The same receipt has always been used. Divine Grace Investment. My friend has bought used electronics from Lawanson and got home it didn't work as expected and she returned it and collected her money in full no dragging. at the end of this comment one tribe still featured in it but on a serious note and my personal I don't like transacting with our Igbo brothers. I paid for a sub standard product as the computer village last year

I hope you're about to tell us that the market leaders have resolve unanimously to stamp out those bad eggs to redeem the image of the market.

They should inform their members that anyone his shop is used in defrauding someone will be expell from the market simple.

Then they'll use one to three people as an example and this reoccurring madness will come to an end.

Failure to do so will indicates that all of them are together in scamming people and will not help the market too.
As if you are not a Nigerian?.
Greediness is the reason why some people get scammed.
Go to computer village for example you will see people crying everyday simply cos they bought fufu in place of a phone.
As for alaba, I deal with tokunbo tv's at st peter axis and on a daily bases we see people falling into these shits.
I always laugh at them, imaging someone selling a smart 48inches oled/qled sharp or Samsung TV to you for #20,000 only and you expect to get the best?.
My advice, always go to any shop yourself than following all those scammers.

Back to the topic, in every tribe in Nigeria, you have the good and the bad. Crime and fraud know no tribe. Let us collectively condemn this act. In all spheres of our economy, we have fraudulent people. In 2015, I sold a car I bought 1.85 million for just 250k due to greed and fraudulent activities of my mechanic in Lagos. I paid money to a welder to work for me and he absconded with my money till date. I lost huge amount paid for land due to greed and fraudulent acts of a well known individuals. A pastor ran away with iPad I sold to him after send fake alert for over 4 years. I can go on relating but I will stop here. In all these narrations, the perpetrators are from the same ethnic group, I will never come to social media to condemn everyone from the ethnic group because you still have good people there. Let us join hand to condemn evil.

The truth is many fraudulent activities in Alaba are perpetrated by Igbo people and i'm Igbo.

We really need to do better.

The first time i went to Alaba to buy a phone;a second-hand phone,i was ripped off by my supposed 'brother' who claimed to have come from the same place as i am.

I was sold a phone with a dead panel. When i went back the next day for a refund,i was told to add more money to collect another phone.A phone i don't even know if it was in perfect working condition.

Can you imagine?!

I couldn't involve any older person or task force to help me handle the issue because the money to mobilise them no dey and shame sef follow hold me at how easily i trusted them based on say we be 'brothers'.

I was angry within myself.Whenever you're too trusting and want to do a honest business with your Igbo brother but get defrauded, people will blame you as a mugu and hail the other one as 'sharp'.

This is not to say there are not honest Igbo business men in Alaba, there are but the thing is evil or bad quite easily always overshadows good.A person can run a successful business transaction with 7 different honest Igbo traders at different point in time but 1 bad business gone wrong from another Igbo man will always linger in his memory.

Try to do your due diligence whenever you want to procure any gadget.

If possible,go with your friend as it will be difficult to defraud 2 people at same time

My brother, I wish I can create a new thread and share a story about how my 2 friends were defrauded inside the same Alaba international market where we all grew up. My friends and I were born and raised some few kilometers away from the market by parents who ply their trades there. So we know all the nukes and crannies of Alaba. In fact, most of the plazas inside that market were built in our presence.

Number doesn't really account for anything if you fall into the wrong hands. My 2 friends went to buy a phone and ended up buying phone casing stacked up with fufu. Mind you, they tested the phone and even took it elsewhere to buy earphone and they tested the phone there too only to get home and discovered that they had brought home fufu....story for another day my brother.

I live most of my life within and around the same market but truth be told, our hustling brothers from your side of the country could go any length to make that money even if it means circumventing the last iota of trust.

Have you not heard of cases of where those guys at DD line sells transformer to some people from a local town/village outside Lagos and still went back to the same village they supplied it to to steal the same item they sold to them during the day?

Funny thing is that the said osuafia guys are made up of multilinguists who would convince you in any language you claim to speak fluently and you'll think you're with someone from your town. I know so many of them that speak my language more than me sef whereas I was there when some of them came to Lagos. Just to buttress this, I also speak the 3 Nigerian languages fluently and I could communicate effectively leaving you doubting what tride I came from.

By statistics there are chances of a black man scaming you in Nigeria than Oyibo because more black people are here.

There are higher chance of a Fulani scamming you with bad tomatoes in Kano than a Yoruba.

There are higher chance of a Yoruba scaming you of land transaction in Ibadan than an Igbo man

There certainly a higher chance of being scammed by an Igbo man in Alaba than anyone else because they are far more in the market than anyone else.

It's all about the number and ratio it does not make any group more criminal minded than anyone else.

Am even surprised to some of these tales because I know people that regularly buy from the market for years without issue.

This point is as baseless as a basket filled with water.
Just because a dealer quotes a ridiculous price means it must be scam?
So the western world, that some organisations are now also adopting here, where there is a black Friday price crash are also scammers?
You see a TV set whose normal price goes for say 200k being sold for 20k on black Friday.By your own awkward reasoning it must be a scam?
They rip you off too when they quote high prices in alaba and some other markets.
Furthermore, the so called union leaders know these scammers,so why do they still allow them operate?
They have shops they take people to to rip them off.Are those shops invisible.
Your point here is zero.
Yours too is baseless, is black friday an every day thing? people are scammed everyday and you are saying black friday. Even on black friday products are not sold below production costs
