As a MLS student not even medicine I know what I'm saying ... I had to buy my own packet of Gloves for praticals cause there is no provision for us.... Now to the main lab for posting we still use open flame to melt tubes for pcv some machines date back to 2005 The liquid Nitrogen for Cryostat has not be refilled since 2009 ....lot of things at the lab where I do one or two things to keep up cause I suck at praticals are done wrong... a single hand glove is used at the reception probably till it rips or till it all sweaty ....we wash slides tubes and pipette and reuse them again for like a month or till when new ones arrive and this affects result ....and this is a Teaching hospital ..it's just sad....

bro m into health 2 and I spent 5 years in d university plus a year internship from my initial post I said Nigeria is bad, I know...u are still a student when u start working you will know what am talking about or when u go for internship, thank God you are even doing MLS, to study medicine isn't child's play, I still maintain my stance doctors in Nigeria are well paid, even in d health sector, they will still go on strike even if their demands are met, they only care about themselves, we are not in US and only our politicians are well paid here, but dis guys will go on strike knowing fully well the consequences of their actions

I really wasn’t going to do this but just maybe I should.
Firstly, complications can arise from surgery in any part of the world; that doesn’t really say anything frankly. An example that should be quite known is the unfortunate death of Stella obasanjo.
Secondly, sorry about the experience You and your mum had. While I can’t speak authoritatively about what happened, I simply want to infer from my own experience. Most government institutions in the country like the police, military and even schools are understaffed and the hospitals are not left out. This is worsened by a dearth of facilities that could have saved manpower and time coupled with a pay not commiserate with work done. These are usually the crux of protests of healthcare workers. Unfortunately, Nigerians wouldn’t support such protests but rather turn against the health care workers and still come to the hospital and demand that a health care worker for example work extra shift to attend to ‘just one more’ patient when there could have been enough personnel on ground as benefits of a successful protest. In addition, you should realize the danger of a fagged out health care worker attending to you or anyone else as so much can go wrong at that point and this a lot of ‘smart’ health care workers avoid by simply excusing themselves when their calls/shifts are over. No patient would understand your reasons should anything go wrong and in most cases court proceedings could follow all because you attended ‘just one more patient’ while being mentally and physically exhausted; not even the medical council would understand because as taught in medical school the first rule is ‘’to do no harm’’.
Finally, I’m hopeful that some day we can realize that the government is the problem not the healthcare worker who can only do as much within his/her capacity and start to demand more. Be reminded for example that the basic health care provision fund meant for the 774 local governments of the country has a budget of 25 billion while the renovation of the National Assembly has a budget of 27 billion.
Cheers ma.

First thing first...... If u know u don't like doctors and u feel u can be a better doctor Dan wat u r seeing dem do.... Pick up jamb form.... Fill and gain admission. Thank God Dia s no age limit to study medicine.
Secondly, am not in support of any medical negligence. We deal with life and so we should be careful in all our dealings with life.
Thirdly, if u feel the doctor is doing something wrong,,,, start with where the fault is coming from.
U beg a doctor to save a life even if he or she is tired or exhausted n wen something bad results, litigations will then b D order of the day. The person sacrificing all to save a life will den b D victim.
Only when u ve a brother, sister, parent, relative etc that's is a doctor u will truly understand how terrible n dangerous it is to practice medicine in Nigeria.
Health budget Was sliced n nobody said anything. But u Wil come to D hospital n complain that Dia s nothing functional. It's a pity we r in a generation with misplaced priority.
Health, education, security n power wc r D four cardinal pillars for a successful nation are all lacking in Nigeria n we r only interested Dat doctors r fighting for deir own life.
God help us all n give us good n true leaders.

Dear OP, communication skill is very important.
Your title is quite misleading.
Strike over pay rise implies that the doctors embarked on the strike as a result of pay rise which is not the case as I deduced from your the body of your article.

I was surprised and was expecting this to be doctors in maybe Canada only to find out the title was only misleading.
