I advice you should sell one of the assets and start a biz. Become an entrepreneur by that you’ll feed everyone, fund their sch fees and finish the other building as well.

You can easily learn one. Ask on this thread, maybe someone will take you as an apprentice for few months. Check around still you’ll find the kind of biz that drives you. Just tell them your story, hopefully they’ll take you on.

Go there, learn the trade and don’t discuss about your money nor brag about the amount you’ll get from the land.

I’m not in the country at moment, perhaps I would have taken you on as an apprentice to show you how it works.

This last bus stop might sound a bit weird, but it’s the fact. You’ll do this when you can‘t find any body to take you on. Check around any Igbo people around your suburban that’s during well in biz. Inform them about your situation and you want to study the biz not apprentice, they’ll teach you. Mind how you dress around them in the office if the wife is around though grin to avoid the stories that touch. Just be cool you’ll be fine I’m just joking

American Airlines, Delta Airlines (baba in profiting) KLM, QANTAS to mention a few.

The first two are about the biggest in the world. Look at the age of the business and their financials, profit margin etc airline business is not among the top 10 profitable businesses.

Ethiopian Airline is profitable. Low cost base.

Almost 80 years old and the most profitable airline in Africa with a profit after tax of almost $200 million. Not sure if they are capitalist or Marxist in Ethiopia. If they are Marxist , you can be very sure of government support

What is percentage of the profitable ones in Africa, compared to most that are still struggling.

There is a reason why Warren Buffet will rather invest in an Aeroplane manufacturing business, rather than in an Airline business

Which bank will open their API for you to follow their live session transactions? With all the 419?

You see the bids only after the fact, at that time decisions have been cast in stone

You ask name the any profitable airline, you were given names, now you are telling me the first two are the biggest, look Airline business is very profitable, just like any other business, you always have Winners and loosers.
Let me list two again for you, RyanAir and EasyJet.

You look at profitability on the basis of the compounded annual growth of the profit, consistency of the profit and the profit margin from the business.

Ethiopian Airline is the most profitable in Africa with a profit of about $200 million, not bad for a business of over 70 years operating all over the world..

MTN Nigeria and Zenith bank are 20 years and 30 years old, they operate solely in Nigeria they make far more than that

Dangote cement, UBA, GTB, Airtel Africa, MTN group, Access etc they operate within Africa they all make more than that.

Analysts have already predicted that the current pandemic will affect the profitability of the Airline industry for the next 24 months.

In any business, there will be losers and winners. But in a situation where the losers are more than winners, break even period is long, business is capital intensive and profitablity is cyclical call for cautious optimism, experience, knowledge, patience, prudence and creativity.

Since you are a retired pilot, hopefully one day you will own your own airline and join the few profitable ones in the country and in Africa

Cbn is doing everything to reduce demand of dollar why some folks here are doing their best to cause others to sell in panic.
My advice if you are saving your money in dollar for the long term do not panic sell, if not, follow the trends. CBN will soon hit a brick wall and realize their policies can’t stop naira from staying at it’s true value, unless crude oil revenue improves!
Like someone said earlier, free market will always win. CBN should get ready to involve the military to keep defending the naira. Clowns

African airlines are generally not profitable true, but many foreign ones are, or rather were pre-pandemic.
Delta, Ryanair, Easyjet included.
Of course the pandemic has affected their businesses, just like it has affected hospitality, tourism and other sectors, but it will bounce back, the question is just when. That's why Buffet sold his airline stock. He was previously heavily invested in airlines.

Not all of them live off government subsidies. The really subsidised entities are actually the major aircraft manufacturers, Boeing and Airbus.

Secondly, Nigerian banks are not really profitable entities, they just deduct charges from customers accounts and recycle the whole thing and do very little actual banking.

First of all I resigned and not retired as I went into private investments. I'm still young if i want to keep flying for the next 30 years.

Secondly, i did not mention Ethiopian Airline, and Airline industry as a whole generates more than $800 billion dollars revenue annually, it's very profitable and majority, if not you won't see people trying to invest in it.

An investment that returns you 9% averagely each year is a good investment, some make far more than that, now check if you invested $1billion and after expenses and tax you still get $90m, is that not good ROI?

An active investment that returns 9% in Nigeria is not very profitable.
If you took a bank loan, then you’re at a loss already. Without even thinking about inflation.

In Nigeria, its not a bad business per se, but inflation at above 12% has eaten up the profit, is what the previous poster was trying to say.
If the funds were borrowed from a bank at current interest rates, it's a loss.

Resumption of FOREX sale has commenced today and the rate of Naira v Dollar is expected to crash further, just in case anyone see or know any seller of N400/ $ , i have a request to purchase $ 200,000 and you will get 1 percent commission on the transaction i.e. $2,000.

On the otherhand the hike in electricity, increase in taxes and removal of fuel subsidy is part of the conditions of the $3.4 billion loan given to Nigerian by the IMF to be re-paid before the end of 2021, there are other loans that was declined and some are yet to be approved on the condition that Nigeria will further devalue the value of Naira, Naira may well shoot up again before the festive period.

Lol.
Na the CBN dey set MPR, which is now high because of its anti-inflation stance. The banks take their cue therefrom.
It's all basically rubbish because at such lousy interest rates, lending is bound to be depressed.
It's the lousy charges the banks stuff into their loans that are truly mind-boggling.

Here in Norway, there was a time my funds was all tied down, I could easily get loan from banks but I decided crowdfunding to get the money, €150,000 , funny enough do you know what the money is for?
To export Stock Fish. I got this funds within 48 hours and made profits of 110k in it, I took 40% and other contributors shared the rest. This is a country that works.

You raised an interesting point here, I checked the bank lending rates in some other countries and found them to be much lower, places like us it's bellow 4%. If the exchange rate becomes stable, people abroad with access to these loans can arbitrage. Their are a lot of investments that give 10% and above in Nija. The NSE for one.

Delta made the biggest profit of $4.1 billion on a revenue of $45 billion, using assets worth $62 billion to generate a profit of $4.1 billion.

That is a return on asset of about 6%

Warren Buffet is a value Investor, you need to understand margin of safety, valuation of assets before you can really enjoy the stock market.

A business worth N10 billion can be priced at N1 billion in the stock market, Investors who understand this anomaly usually value investors will accumulate such businesses that are selling at a huge discount.

It is also possible for a business worth N10 billion to be valued N50 billion due to market frenzy and euphoria, eg what is currently happening with Tesla stocks.

See when you have Asset of $62 bill You should know that even 2% on return of asset is a good profit.

This is not like using $1000 to be chasing $500 returns. This is not Bankable Risk
