What I know is that when one has too many powerful people with different motives trying so hard to influence how one should do his/her job or how one runs an organisation, one is most certainly going to end up looking incompetent no matter how hard you try to make things work.

Your friend is totally wrong. The GMD himself said that it's not been cancelled. He literally said that it will soon be concluded.

Ask your friend like this, ‘When did they cancel it? Was it before or after the GMD’s interview just where he said that the EH recruitment is still on?’ If your friend had no idea of the GMD’s interview, then konk him or her for me.
