Graduated as a Mech Eng. Completed NYSC in 2011
Lectured for some months in a Poly
Moved to Manufacturing sector and was there for 2year.... I didn't like the sound of machines, I got tired of seeing wrenches, ratchets etc.
Moved into Project Planning - no wrenches and ratchets - just laptop
Then moved to Proj. Mgt.
God has been faithful.

Well, i have realized that we live in changing times. What sells in 1990 isn't selling now.

Tech industry is the number one wealth creator today.

I studied mass communication and learn a bit of wordpress. Was able to put up https://errands.ng for nigerians to get things done quickly.

After graduation, I Applied once for a job, after they rejected me, i decided to start my own thing as a revenge

The company where i applied have reduced their work force, many of their staffs are now on the street, i started my thing in a small way, saw lot of companies retrenched their staffs before corona and during corona, i am still standing tall.

Never will i ever apply for any job in my life.

At 17, you will go far in life if you keep up this spirit and aspiration.

At this your age, just dive into IT and know your onions, then sky will be your starting point. Artificial intelligence is taking over the world at a light speed.

I am not an IT guy but this is the trend right now. Go and do your research to know what IT skills you really need.

I had the same thought when I was jobless, especially when I visit my classmate that dropped out in secondary school and went for apprenticeship. As at that time, the guy had made it and was living comfortably, even dashing me money. Today, the guy is admiring me cos he hasn't even SSCE cert.

[quote author=tensazangetsu20 post=93698742]Well I did marine engineering. It took me a year after graduation with thousands of applications to get one interview. The jobs didn't even exist. I just sent out my CVs to the email address of shipping companies and prayed something hit.

I ran a business for a while and learnt to code and men it's so easy to get a programming job. It's only in the tech industry that one would apply for jobs and be getting an interview 3 hours later. Do well in an interview and you would be getting a job the next day.

I thought it's just me as a marine engineer but apparently many of my friends with engineering degrees can't get jobs. The jobs don't even exist. It's not about going online and sending out applications. How do you send out applications to what isn't there. The world is changing now. Proper research on the job market has to be done before one goes into the university. Don't go based on hearsay. Go and do your findings yourself.[/quote

For programming language I would say it depends. If you are between 13 to 18 and want to get into programming. I would advice you to learn C and C++.

If you are above 18, JavaScript and PHP. I believe those above 18 would be looking to get into the labour market and those two languages have the most jobs out there. Cost implication. Well just data. You are gonna spend on data a lot and then you need a lot of time at least 4 to 5 hours a day.
