I have nothing to say but really Your friend didn't do well at all. He disappointed the old employer and that can be a red flag for anyone needing tier 2 visa and applying for job in such care home cry
How did he disappoint the old employer? For seeking another job or for resigning?

His Tier 2 visa was sponsored by the old employer (care home) and not by the NHS. I think he left them after getting what he needed from them.

I think anyone can leave place of work provided they fulfil the conditions to leave.

Good day to you. I need advice on an issue. I have a friend, a nurse. He left Nigeria last year on a Tier 2 Visa. Entered the UK as a pre-registered nurse and did the needful to pass the clinical assessment and became registered within the stipulated time. All was going well till around june of this year when he felt he was no longer comfortable working in a particular care home (for reasons best known to him). Anyway he got another job with another company and was supposed to start work with the new employer. He was told to resign at the old place which he did. I guess immediately the old employer informed the home office so his CoS can be withdrawn according to the law. Now two weeks later, the new employer informed him that they have not been able to process his work Visa. Reason is that their outsourced company that prescreens and apply for Visas on their behalf found a discrepancy in his documents: Employment letter from old employer, day he entered the UK and day he sat for the clinical exam to be fully registered as a nurse. That the old employer was supposed to have corrected the discrepancy with the home office. Anyway, he was out of work already, had bills to pay, was pressuring the old employer but nothing was being done. After being out of work for close to 40 days, he went back to the old employer who said their CoS cancellation might not have been approved by the home office due to backlogs, they said they will withdraw the application. He had an interview in another care home of theirs and started work with them since two weeks ago. Now they just informed him that the documents is not fully cleared and he can only work for 20hrs per week for now.
Any insight on this will be much appreciated. Thanks

There was no plan to leave initially. At least till the three years work permit expires. The company/agency has a lot of care homes in the UK. He was posted to one of them, rented a house, brought over his family, stuffs like that. Towards the end of last year, the company was sold to another company and the care home where he works was shut down (I guess the company was struggling). So he was given an option of being posted to another care home in another town entirely. In fact the deadline was like a week to decide. Sure he agreed to go to the new care home, about 2hours by public transport to his house. He did it for a while but it wasn't convenient due to the distance. Already he had an agreement with the landlord on rent issues (I'm not sure how it works but I'm sure you understand) so he couldn't move his family immediately. Had to rent a small room in the new town and only sees his family when he is off duty. Did that for months b4 they started hearing rumours that the new care home might be shut down again (maybe covid implications). He saw an advert from another company that has a care home close to his house and got the job. My point is I don't think he did it because he got what he wants from them. He followed procedure. The mistake was resigning b4 getting the visa with the new employer. Their representative have him a wrong advice which they later apologized but the deed had been done

Leaving is not a problem. The old employer did not stop him from leaving. He resigned. They thanked him for his services, and wished him the best in future endeavours. They only collected back his ID card.... lest they forget and run foul of the law, they collected THEIR CoS too.

K tnks am asking on behalf of my sis inlaw she has master's in microbiology, it's a known fact in Nigeria dey can't register wt the Medical lab association,aw can she get registered wt HCPC in UK so as to pursue getting a job,pls help

(A). She may want to register as a Biomedical Scientist, but a Nigerian Microbiology degree (on its own) is not enough.
(B). She may be required to do some top up modules (Im not sure which and which).
(C). Alternatively, she may wish to enrol for a Biomedical Science Masters program in the UK (Note: This must be at a University whose program is accredited and it must be modules which would guarantee HCPC registration. NOTE: Not all universities have these courses. Again, although the course titles may sometimes sound similar, they are not necesarrily exactly the same).

(D). A fellow on this forum @omopapa has done a fantastic job in answering questions in this regard. I have benefited a truck load from his posts on the subject matter. If I were you (or the person involved, I would click on omopapa's profile, and meticulously go through his posts on the subject - I assure you, he has answered ALL the questions you are asking.

Very sad what happened.... UK before you get your ILR you always have to be extra careful when it comes to switching jobs because any small thing can set u back to drawing board. .....

He just has to accept the 20hours. half bread better than none.i think Tier 2 allows him to take another job so maybe he can take another job to supplement his income very quietly on the side but he has to read the full rules regarding second job on tier 2... and then in cases like this the whole family has to get involved. So the wife maybe has to work as well if she isnt . Anything to help increase the household income

Hopefully in due time the 20 hours is increased back to full time .. all eyes should just be on how to try pass time till ILR. Even if you hate the job...... Once you get that ILR it is like a big load lifted off your shoulders and you are kind of free

From someone who is 'family-driven' I would say you should consider moving to the UK with her.

You already have strengths in 2 careers and you can develop anyone one of each or even a new one. I also switched from engineering into I.T even though still at inception.

Going to Canada as a student still leave you being dependant for a while and away from your loved one...anything fit happen.

Seeing that you already doing good with startups and bit of IT, you can only develop more on that if you want.

Hi guys, i'm just joining the thread and i suppose some members here live in the UK. Please im in a dilenma right now. I need advice:

I'm getting married to my fiance soon and of course interested to leave with her.
She's a nurse....processing her papers to migrate to the UK.

I, on the other hand, mechanical engineer but since graduation, I've been in the tech space...dealing with digital marketing projects, wordpress (website) and graphic design projects. Eventually, developed two startups. One is a digital marketing startup. The other is a partnership. Also, I'm currently rounding up my online masters with University of South Wales btw

My issue is...if i move with my fiance after marriage, what am i chances in the UK (She's a nurse)

Additionally, I have an option to move to Canada as well but its for schooling....meaning I'd be dependent for a while.
I personally have made researches and Nigerians rate Canada more than the UK when it comes to the opportunities for immigrants. I want to know if this is really significant to consider in this my situation because my fiance is not entirely keen on moving to canada cos their nursing registration process is more rigorous as she might also have to do some courses before working!

Unless i move to canada and she moves to Uk and we maybe link up later. I dont know how thats meant to work! Please help clarify life and career opportunities in the UK for someone with my track record. That might help me make a decision. Thanks guys

Some times you must act as a fool against all odds to survive in UK , most especially when you are an immigrant.

A quick question mbok.......

For those traveling to Nigeria now......

- Is a covid clearance certificate required?
- Would a bug standard NHS test message suffice?
- Or must be privately done, with a covid19 proper certificate issued?

We used a private test I saw posted here for £150.......however on getting to the airport. We saw the free NHS one was accepted. Many people were just bringing their phones to show the test result . Asked a couple of people and yes it was the free NHS covid test so check for the testing centre closest to who is travelling . The test result usually comes out in 24hours both for private and NHS

On getting to naija ... naija government is charging arriving passengers 51,000 naira to do another test in nigeria angry so hold your naira

Cc Lexusgs430 but this week they stopped the 51k at the airport. Instead you pay online. No more cash payment

You can test your eyesight by driving to the cliffs of Dover with your wife and children.
If that is not enough, drive alone to Barking. I will be happy to meet you at Kings.

G.morning lovely house, trust u all are doing well.

Please I will like an advice from you guys please. My elder sister is working as a secretary/ executive assistant in a reputable organisation in Abuja. She loves her career line very well and have bin in it for 12 years now. She got married in 2014, her hubby is based in UK and she will be joining her hubby soon in UK. She was discussing with me on her career, that she doesn't know if she can get a secretary work in the UK. I told her that she should change her career line to health sector bc I know that she can easily get job in health sector, but she said that her age(41years) might not permit her study nursing when she gets her permanent stay bc of the study loan.

There’s this saying that I really like. “If you think that when you graduate in 5 years, you’ll be 5 years older, guess what? You’ll still be 5 years older. The difference is whether you’ll be 5 years older with a degree or not”

I didn’t say it very well, but I hope you understand that people should stop letting age hold them back.

Regardless of what I said above, she doesn’t need to study nursing if she wants to go into the health sector. Nothing wrong with her being a carer.

Personally, I’ll advice that she goes into project management, recruitment or customer service. She can decide to still be a secretary or office assistant. her transferable skills from her previous experience is better suited to these fields. All she has to do is look for jobs on indeed that suit her, and apply.

You don’t lose anything if you move with her to the UK and experience UK yourself. Canada will not reject your student application cos you now live in UK. Be your own judge on whether UK is better for you or not, rather than rely on other people’s opinion, especially as you have the opportunity to experience both sides. If you stay for a bit in the UK and don’t like it, move to Canada.

I hate it here, so I’m just counting the days until I get my brit passport, then I will pack my bag and move to Canada. If I move to Canada and don’t like it there, I will pack my bags and and easily return to UK. Simple.

Another angle for you; coming to the UK will give you the opportunity to save enough money that you’ll need for your tuition, so you don’t become a burden on your wife. I’ve written my answer with the assumption that your wife is cool with overseas marriage.

Hello my people, Kindly assist to clarify my issue. will schooling in any of the Russel group of schools would give a brighter chance of getting job after schooling. I have applied for an MSc in 2 UK universities though I'm still expecting their feedback but I'm being tempted to apply to Queen University Belfast being a member of Russel group of schools. However, the course fees are on the high side compared to others 2 but I'm now confused on the next step if the higher fees could justify it at the end. Though, I'm always ready for any challenge wherever I find myself but skeptical on what the future hold as regard getting job within 2 years allotted time for Post Study Work Visa.

Thank you.

Hahahaha me that sometimes shame used to catch me that I did masters when all my colleagues and managers just graduated from high school grin

UK is not like naija o, 80% of small-medium businesses don’t care about your degree, sometimes, you having a degree will make your boss hate you sef.

So this is your personal decision; if you want to go to a top tier uni for your own self-gratification, cool. Otherwise, don’t stress yourself too much. The only time going to such unis pay off, is if you land a job in major companies like the big 4s, MS, Facebook, intl companies, etc.

1. Covid test is required to board any airline going to Nigeria.
2. Yes, just scan both the NHS covid test receipt & the email you received from nhs.
3. Not necessary.

Additional information

4. U will need to pay 50,400 Naira online to receive the NPS QR code online as u need this to also present at the check in desk and also at immigrations
