any idea of what really makes "Special Forces" special? Is it just more or advanced training for them like what the TV series I watched titled SEAL TEAM, a special force unit that undergo, intellect, mental and physical exercise including ability to withstand torture before you join them.

Abeg, what really makes Nigeria Army Special Forces unique. I just wanna learn.
Simply put, they're Special Forces because they undergo specialised trainings and carryout high risk missions/operations that would be too risky to deploy regular soldiers.e.g Counter insurgency, Anti-Kidnapping operations, hostage rescue etc. Normally the training of soldiers is centred around conventional warfare. There will be lots of collateral damage e.g if you pick a random infantry officer to go and carryout specialised operations like hostage rescue, the officer go just go there kill everybody including the hostage, and may even destroy the area of operations(which may be an urban area) but an SF officer will be more tactful/careful and clinical in his approach he may carryout same mission without leaving a trace or atleast collateral damage will be reduced to the barest minimum he has the fit for purpose training and weapons to carryout a surgical strike.
That's why DSS (Department of State) guys are better trained for anti kidnapping operations, close quarter combat and VIP protection, it's because that's what their basic training is centred on and their weapons are fit for purpose (Tavor series/Berretta/Glock/Uzi). Pick a DSS officer to fight a conventional warfare (soldiers primary role) it will be a monumental disaster vice versa.
So to bridge this gap some soldiers are selected to undergo some of the courses that will enable them carryout their duties also the right equipment is given to them for this.
Criteria for joining SF differs from country to country but the underlying denominator is that one have to be very tough both mentally and physically and as an officer intellect can't be overemphasized.

instruct a Sargent to do what in this context? Into senority level you can instruct him to do various things... but at the frontlines, you’d most likely not hold any command position.. keyword.. *most likely not*

Fact.
On paper they're not supposed to, but what is on ground is totally different from what's in the books. DSSC officers in Engineering, AME and Signal Corps are usually the "Unlucky" guys that find themselves leading men for operations.
It is not uncommon, infact it's the norm in the northeast there many ungoverned spaces and the army is highly understaffed especially in the officer cadre. As far as this job is concerned only female officers will ever know peace that doesn't still exempt them from being posted to the north east but they will never be drafted to the fronts, they are always in a fortified base and even at that when there is any signal concerning an impeding attack female officers will be evacuated or airlifted while the men will stay and fight. This has being the standard ever since bokoharam captured some female soldiers years ago. Whether DSSC or SSC you are a combatant as far as army is concerned they don't even care if you are a Chaplain or Imam. Who no come no go understand.

I cannot be in the military and allow you to apply SSC, it is foolishness on my part if I allowed you to join. I am clearly not in support of you joining, if it's DSSC you have my support, but certainly not SSC.

I've been depressed lately, this statement was my immediate elder brother's statement on me joining SSC, he's a member of 58rc, and currently serving in naval wing in NDA.

Reason why I am putting this out is because, I actually needed advice, as I've already given out my application numbers to couples of his contemporaries and other people like that.

Should I apply for DSSC again or I should just allow the wish of God to take place.

Pls I need advice.

I know someone in Public Relations who got drafted to the fronts too. Signals seem to be lucky ones as they do not stay long in the theatre like other corps.

You cannot know more than people in the system already there are lots of information you won't know untill you enter. In that same Afaka a senior civilian staff earlier this year told me something similar. In his words "You're a young man why do you want to waste your life in the army? Navy and NAF is a better choice forget about the army" the man statement weak me but our mind don already dey made up.
Baba come begin call names of some of his students that have died and these are RC guys that even own the army and reserve juicy appointments for themselves. Talkmore of SSC that are more like the backbone of this Insurgency fight.
Sit down with your brother and ask him why he feels so after that it's left for you to make up your mind. It will be unwise for me to tell you to follow your heart when you have not extensively weighed the pros and cons to see if it's what is within your threshold. So that when you enter anything you jam no go shock you.
