Not taking advantage of what we have locally is one of our major problems in this country.
The problem with most resorts in Naija is they are waaay too pricey. If you calculate the cost of a weekend there you might just prefer to go to senegal.

It's a nice place but that was in the past. My experience was basic. The cable car was "Out of Service", No power (generator's put on for 3 to 4 hours a day), the canopy walkway (very beautiful) doesn't inspire confidence as it looked like it lacked maintenance. All in all, very beautiful place with great scenery but very poor maintenance culture.

It's actually beautiful...

One of the reason why people don't visit there or whatever is because of the name...

For a Nigerian who hasn't heard about this cattle ranch will always pick shoprite or somewhere else over here because the first imagine that will come to him/her is a place filled with cows and stinks of cow poop... grin

Who will blame them... The need some marketing

I have heard about the ranch but the only picture of it I have seen is that cow head at the gate grin

Thanks Op
Lol... Yea exactly, the environment is really beautiful, They obviously needs to rename it to something eye-catching, obudu cattle ranch is too odd in this modern era...

I was at Obudu Mountain Resort recently and had a good time. I saw some foreign people there too. The place still looks very beautiful like Europe despite low domestic patronage . Maybe they need good managers and marketing team, and a good road network connection.
I've come to realize that average Nigerians just don' have the spending power ,and that's why most businesses like Resorts and shopping centers don't thrive too well .

A business thrives when local and foreign consumers combine, It won't thrive if it's only patronized by foreign. Even rich Nigerians prefer to vacation abroad. The Nigerian spending power is too low and needs to be boosted before such places can thrive.

The idea of resorts and national parks like Tinapa, Obudu Mountain resort, Cross river National park, etc. are great, if not for the low spending power of average Nigerian.
For now, it's just a shame.
that was then not now

How can we value what we don't know about? If this was in Europe you would be seeing adverts everywhere about this. Have I ever seen any advert about obudu or ogbunike cave? The answer is NO. They should make it popular first.

Nigerians are lively, adventures types and wanting to travel to distant lands is part of the deal. It is part of the human condition, this travel bug in our guts. I only wish Nigerians would realize this and stop saying they left Nigeria or want to travel from Nigeria because Nigeria is a shithole. We all need to change that negative refrain of leave it to the political types that do so for Grandstanding Statement purposes.

When last did you visit this Obudu.
The last time i did, i vouch never to go there again. unless somethings have changed.
The environment is cool. Misty. the valley bridge etc. mountain view etc. BUT,
the accommodation inside the Obudu was bleeped. paid 72,500 per day, for 3 rooms with my family, one of the room is a connected room, and they put off generator by 10:30 pm and put it on by 6:30 am. then put off again at 9:00am till 6:30 pm. they give you rechargeable to use there.
the cable train which was one of the main reason i went there, they told me no fuel unless i am willing to buy a drum of diesel fuel.
no Hot water in the rooms that we paid 72,500 for.

This was in 2016/ 2017. i Hope it has changed for the better.

poor management

People do patronize this particular destination, but the pandemic at hand has it own negative effects. So

Not as much as they should for a country of 200m. I think that's the point!

I do not agree that we are adventurous types. When we travel all most people are interested in is shopping.

How many Nigerians do you find bungee jumping, hiking, mountain climbing, kayaking, sky diving etc. But go to any mall and you will see us there.

Obudu needs to be privately managed and with investment to improve the facility and also lots of local and international advertising. It should be a place people from Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Ivory Coast etc are visiting.

They can start by owing a web site
Just imagine a place like that don’t have website where you can book and see what you want to pay for.

Poor spending power is indeed a problem with places such as Obudu in Nigeria, amongst other issues like maintenance, accessibility and cost.

I always say that FG needs to make reinvigorating the middle class in Nigeria. Its always better for 1mln people to have N1mln, than 10k people to have N1bln, when the rest are poor.

I always wanted to go there like 10years ago during Duke's time. But it seems to have been going down the hill since then.

Do you think it should be renamed "Cross river Mountain Resort " or "Calabar Mountain Resort" since Calabar is already popular.
