Reading the thread is your best bet. Nobody will give the names of any hospital here. Help yourself.

HELLO HOUSE,
Its been a while since I was on here, but I have been using several weeks to catch up. I did share my first experience around page 60, so this is my second issue which came last month. I will share my full experience in another post soon. I am posting this because I do recall reading a question about people who have renewed their visa after a birthing experience. I don't know what page I read that on, but I would qualify for that. its been a while though. then they had that CAN+ option which is those that had a visa withing the past 5 or ten years. it was around 2019, so I don't know if that option still exists now, but it was an online application I did and it went smooth. I was granted till the end of my passport. I have also used that visa for visiting a couple of times both personal and work, and its the same one I used to have my baby now.

BIRTHING EXPERIENCE DURING COVID RESTRICTIONS in Ontario
Hello ALL, especially to mums expecting later this year after most of the travel ban has been lifted. A summary of my second time experience. I already highlighted the hospital I used in the uploaded pic above.

Immigration experience: I won’t bore you with the details of how I came during the lock down, but I will say attention should be paid to the rules of entering all countries/airspace, esp. Canada. I met those and got in.

At Canada, I met the first immigration lady, who asked purpose of traveling, I answered non-emergency medical reasons, specifically birthing. She asked why I needed to come to Canada for that. And I explained its better system here, and I got family here, so I prefer having my kids close to family. She transferred me to the inner immigration room, where I waited to meet another officer. The wait was long, I missed my connecting flight, (so do be cautious of the time difference if you are connecting within Canada). The actual time spent with the officer when I met him was very short, a few minutes.

He asked me how much I had, I told him how much, his response was something like ‘oh that’s good’, he didn’t want to see the cash. He asked me about correspondence with a hospital. I told him that hospitals rarely do emails, but as this is my second issue I have registered in my old hospital and have my doctor’s details. I showed him doctors business card and receipt for hospital I registered for my first issue. In all the documents I gave him was about 4 or 5, some of them I got the idea from this forum (so thank you fellow sharers). Other documents included a printed excel budget for my birthing and bank statement of an account that had good funds in it.

I did two weeks isolation, almost all the doctors I spoke with refused to take me onboard cause I would be far gone by the time I come out of my isolation period. They told me to go to the nearest hospital if I felt any major discomfort. That’s why I did a lot more hospital research. Those who wanted to take me on board where being funny. There are some I would have considered if I had come earlier. Like the Dr Grace woman that someone had mentioned here, her office is quite nice, I’ll say do go with her if you come on time.
The travel ban had a lot to do with my coming late so I hope other mamas make it here in good time. Delivery of baby was okay, all went well, thank God. Spent a bit longer than a day, as we were waiting for pediatrician who was super busy that particular day.

Three days later did baby checkup at clinic, C$50 paid for that.
I did two short birth certificates, the second one now has the parents’ details and was designed specifically for those who want to do international passport (I had to ring and ask cause I got confused when I received mine in the mail). Costs C$ 25 each, so C$50 for both.
International passport is C$57, process is just a bit delayed as you can only get appointment by calling due to the covid-19 issue.

Also I have been seeing the concern about this health authority letter. Honestly I’m lost myself I have no idea what this thing is, what I will advise though is get a regular visa, visit Canada once, then plan how to deliver your baby. Or even if you don’t visit, just get the visa sha. I know it may not be that easy but I don’t know where this special letter is coming from.

A don’t really have any other costs, except regular costs. I’m still at my relatives who pretty much takes me around so limited taxi costs. We are more concerned about the whole covid thingy. Nothing else to add, but if I do get additional info, I will share.

Best of luck to everyone.

smiley smiley smiley I have narrated the main immigration experience, the boring one I was referring to, is the actual journey to Canada which was cumbersome because of the travel bans, and different country rules. But future mums will not suffer similar fate as most lock down has eased. grin

What were the required documents for the Nigerian passport please.
post=84429406]Long Post Alert!!
Sorry I’ve been so busy that I have not had time or strength to type up the rest of the journey. Our baby was born about 3 weeks ago. Thanks to Almighty God for the successful delivery. So here’s the rest of the story:
First, update on the lab test at doctor’s office is 55CAD extra for a vaginal swab test for which I got the invoice about a week after birth of our baby. So that brings the total lab test cost to 178CAD
Labor, Hospital, and Delivery:
So my wife got an early labor and baby on a Friday at 37 weeks 2 days. Went to hospital the next day morning only to be turned back in the afternoon because dilation was still 1cm. However, we were charged 650CAD for that visit by the hospital. Later that night labor got worse and we returned to hospital at about 10pm. My wife’s dilation was checked to be almost 3cm and they told us to wait until it’s 3cm. However we were advised to wait and be admitted to the labor room at 12am so we won’t have to pay for 2 nights (This was because, the baby has to be in the hospital for 24 complete hours before being discharged as Ontario law requires.) So were finally admitted 11:30pm on a Saturday and baby was born @ 5:17am on Sunday morning. (I was scared they’d charge us for the 30 minutes before 12am, but when I spoke to them in accounts the following Monday morning, they were understanding, and we only paid for one night.) We were discharged on Monday morning since the 24hrs ended at 5:17am on Monday morning. We used an Epidural which cost us 1,100CAD and it covers as many epidurals as required until birth (it’s non-negotiable as the doctor did not reduce it even when we tried to negotiate. However, I heard the cost of the epidural differ from anesthesiologist to anesthesiologist and could be anywhere from 500CAD to 1200CAD depending on whoever’s on duty)
Hospital bill for one night was 3505CAD(which we had paid earlier) and that included mother and baby, lab tests, drugs, food (for mother and baby if the mother cannot breastfeed), diapers, maternity pads, disposable panties for mother, and accommodation for support person (a collapsible chair in the labor room as well as the mother and baby room).
First pediatric visit was 3 days after birth. We were given a list of Humber river pediatricians and we used the one closest to us. The guy charged 300CAD for first visit and said subsequent visit is 200CAD. After first visit we were supposed to return a week later. However, for some reason we were not comfortable with the price. So we researched about other pediatricians not connected with Humber river hospital. We found Kidscrew children clinic. We were charged 80 dollars for Pediatric visit at Kidscrew. We regretted going to the first guy anyway. But at least thank God the joy of delivery was greater than the regret of spending.
Birth Certificate, Ticket, and Passports Application
Birth certificate was applied for online through service Ontario. Cost 25CAD and was approved the next day. Received it at my address through Canada post 1 week after approval.
Baby ticket was 216CAD with Lufthansa airline. Bassinet seat cost extra 77CAD. Both were obtained over the phone with airline desk and new ticket was sent to my email. (Note that flight ticket with baby’s name showing on it is required to get and urgent or express passport)
Canadian passport was applied for after baby got her passport photograph (20CAD for 4 copies). I wanted to go with the no guarantor option which requires filling a form that shows information about you within the last five years including addresses, and jobs. Then 2 referees which can be reached by the phone numbers you provide. Also, the form must be signed at a notary public office which would cost 78CAD since he will be serving as your guarantor. (Notary public office is less than a minute walk from the downtown passport office I went to. However, I had no need to use the notary public office anymore because I was able to contact a friend whom I thought was not even in the country. Fortunately, she had returned, and she signed as guarantor for me. Passport application and express delivery cost 107CAD. They said I did not qualify for urgent service since I’m not travelling within 2 weeks. So I was given express service and told to come the next 2 business days. Went there and got my baby’s passport
Instead of applying for a Nigerian emergency travel certificate, we decided to apply for a Nigerian passport since we had time and we figured it will be more difficult to get the baby a passport in Nigeria(they don’t even have passport booklet) The Nigerian passport office was in Ottawa. But application has to be made online and payment has to be done online as well (77USD). Printed out all the required documents and got on our way to Ottawa as baby has to be present in person at Ottawa for photograph. Left Toronto on a Monday afternoon, got to Ottawa on a Monday evening and went to passport office on Tuesday morning. (Note that after filling the application online already, appointment was given to come to the Ottawa office 10 days later, however, we went there the next day following the advice I was given when I called the office to come whenever it’s convenient for me). Got to the office on Tuesday morning and submitted the application documents. Got the passport in the afternoon and got on our way back to Toronto the next day.
So all we do now is sit and wait for our flight to return home and hopefully we should not encounter any challenges all through. The God who has started this has brought it to completion. We are just nothing but grateful.

Hello dazzing. God bless you for this post. It is truly a breath of fresh air and congratulations on your newborn.

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee, I am very much interested in that travel route into Canada at this time. Provinces are experiencing higher COVID cases which makes it unlikely that borders will be open to tourist visas, but you travelled with a tourist visa so I'm just clueless. Your post is a glimpse of hope to me. Please help!!! Information is gold at this time. All I need is a step in the right direction and I will do the other work myself.

OTHER INFO
Also, for others you want to travel to Canada, extended and immediate family members can apply to travel on compassionate grounds. If you have a parent, sibling (half or step inclusive), boyfriend/fiance of 1 yr, husband, child/step-child, grandchild ; any of which must be a Citizen or PR, you can apply, although, you must have your visa already. I believe this is in efforts for family reunification for the holidays - December period.

Hello everyone, I am new here and have silently read through a lot of the advise here. I am 32 weeks and went through the POE at montreal last week. At the POE. I was asked

my purpose of visit - Visiting family and some shopping

How long family had been here - i told him
Have i been to canada before -Yes
The profession of the family members here - i told him
Did i bring gifts for them -No , i ll buy their gifts here
Enjoy ur stay.

P.S i got my tourist visa 2 years ago ( i wasnt married nor pregnant) and visited last year.

I flew Airfrance my pregnancy did not even bother them and my fit to fly letter was not even asked for. I called customer care though and was told i can fly anytime before 36weeks.

I wish all expectant moms luck in their tourism hustle.

P.S any one has any good and affordable hospital contact in montreal.

I have never liked America though for two reasons. One: they call themselves world power yet the country suffers from a high rate of unemployment. Two: the gun issue

Hello, Sorry for late responses, I noticed that since my last post I got alot more direct mails, and I see there are a few questions on here that I haven't responded too. I'll try and do that now, but some quick update:

I got my baby's passport. from interview/form submission day till I got it took just two weeks, so I'll say the process is still working okay even with the restrictions and limited service.

General update: Canada border restrictions to visitors was extended again till end of this oct.

answers to questions:
yes, you are on point there are mainly two confident sources to get travel restrictions on countries, IRCC and IATA websites. which I also used. My first child like I shared is a Canadian, Canadians are allowed into their country and me as the mum, an immediate family member. so airline would always ask for evidence which is the birth certificate. again non-optional/non discretionary reasons, mine was medical. plus I have PR siblings but that only came up when I was already at canada immigration. the main thing is airlines will not let you fly if you cannot show evidence to enter a country that has restrictions. Again I dunno it may have cooled down now, but when I used airfrance I saw a lady who was bounced at Paris, as she didn't meet the criteria. it wasn't pretty. I understand that not all members of this forum would meet that criteria that's why I said my post is useful for intending mums coming after the ease of Canada lock down.

My journey to come though cumbersome will not be relevant to this group cause the conditions I traveled then have all changed now. Now there are airlines and countries have opened up. Again even though I am Nigerian, I don't live in Nigeria, I live in another African nation, so when I came my journey was broken in pieces, through different African countries, with the last leg being via Paris to Canada. I hope I've answered all questions. I'll update the group again if I get any other info.

Oh I forgot to mention, some months back the Nigerian embassy here wasn't working , but now I saw the press release that they have resumed services but very limited and by strict appointments only. this was really a massive headache to me, and in the end, I will not be using them as I suspect there may be backlog on their side.
