. This didn't last long though . I was driving on my way to island last week .. my car stopped driving and entered neutral on the road, at bode thomas .. I was really stranded , touts and police rubbished me because my car broke down on the road .. kick spoiled while forcing it to start , my battery died also .. rain beat the Bleep out of me because I gats stay with the car that's impossible to move from the road, some stupid mechanic duped me telling me they want to rent battery for me .. well long story cut short , my car spent 3 days out before my mechanic came to check it , now he's telling me the engine is not rolling anymore .. that he'll have to bring the engine down .. I have pimped the car to my taste .. I haven't even rode it for a month . The gear oil leaks .. this car has given me the worst experience about BMW cars. .. and also a money pit .. my mechanic has cash out on my head

ok if he had gone undernith to have a look then you should buy an imported rack and buy and fix at same shop cos if you buy frm afar and you fix it an it is stil faulty then refund becomes an issue
as faulty rack can damage ur pump

At what range can I get it from tuks or naija used?

How is the maintenance, difficult or not difficulty to maintain as a starter.

I recently discovered one of the problems people have with Beamers is cost cutting. I used Mobil XHP on my E70 X5 30xi and it started the Vanos rattle. Switched to full synthetic under a month and rattles gone. Also always ensure that cage on the oil filter cover is never lost. Simple as it looks It ensures the pressure to the vanos systems.

Strict maintenance is needed for all cars though, bmw maintenance shouldn't be joked with. You can't cut cost. If you want to start as first car, I'll advice you buy later years of E46, don't buy first year. Buy 4 plugs before you start complaining about fuel consumption. Avoid flooded areas as well, use recommended fluids, don't skip service.

Parts are not expensive and they are easily seen in the market.

to the bolded, as a rule of thumb, genuine part are expenssive and this is true for all car however fake parts are cheap!the o nly reason people think some parts are cheap is cos there aint a lots of fakes of such model about

hi bimmer fans, i use an e36 94 320i. Since August 2011, I've not had major issues apart from things like ball joints, tie rod, shocks...power steering pump and fuel pump...changed two tyres and what else...ok nothing. Contrary to what i read or hear about poor reliability, the car is the best in reliability as far as i'm concerned. I hope to buy a 2004 or '03 e46 330i next year. I'm currently making contacts for a 1998 M3 sedan,which i hope to pick up if a good deal pulls through. As stated above,the car has a low ground clearance, my street is being worked on so I park in an adjoining street pending when on going work is completed. I changed my gear oil and filter yesterday, used the normal abro fluid...super visco 2000 (20w50...too heavy I guess, but I'll use 5w40 next time) No issues thus far.

Good evening, please do you or anyone on this forum have an idea of how much 525i transmission is? Car is giving transmission issue...the mechanic here said fuse burnt..changed and issue still resurface. He is saying there is something he needs to replace in the valve body. I think buying another gear is just better than the trial and error.

Please, assist with ur views.

10 litres life(gear) oil @ ₦18,000
Transport from Ladipo to Abeokuta of the gear etc was ₦12,000
Mechanic workmanship @ ₦14,000
Adaptation (programming) @ ₦5,000

10 litres life(gear) oil @ ₦18,000
Transport from Ladipo to Abeokuta of the gear etc was ₦12,000
Mechanic workmanship @ ₦14,000
Adaptation (programming) @ ₦5,000

Apart from the regular wear & tear aggravated by our bad roads & environment, I'm shocked at all the issues folks are raising on their cars.
I got the car from copart in 2018 & the gear issue was observed from the very first day it landed in Lagos. I however managed it for almost 2 years before it outright replacement.
Maybe I'm luck which I pray for it to continue. To jump ship based on reviews from this forum is in contrast to my personal experience. Should I say that the dinosaur (compared to my other vehicles) is one of the very good ones Providence gift me?

My rule is if you take good care of your car, it will take care of you.
I wasn't so keen on buying a BMW back then but a friend just pushed it on me, he actually forced me to buy it.
I was immediately faced with series of problems based on the car being a front end collision salvage buy from copart. While at the Lagos port, a forklift was used to moved the car which in turn cracked the car's gear sump. I replaced that but the gear issue of stalling when it wants to change from gears 3 to 4 upwards still persists until the replacement.
Once an issue comes up & I know it will tell on the vehicle's performance, I immediately fix them.
My radio/screen isn't working for 7 months now, I was given several options of a bypass or an hack to make it work but I'll rather when the time & money is available, take the car to Ladipo, Lagos and get replacement units for the console.
It's hard, needs due diligence, attention & patience but you'll surely enjoy it.

I have seen some persons who were quick to convert to manual stick instead of replacing their faulty automatic transmission.

Have you noticed that all who have complained (except for the one who purchased a lemon, which the seller asked him not to rev the car at the inspection stage) did not list out the BMW cars they owned which gave them unending issues.

It is my eighth year of owning and driving different models of BMW cars and I have no plans to change to another brand.
