I recently discovered one of the problems people have with Beamers is cost cutting. I used Mobil XHP on my E70 X5 30xi and it started the Vanos rattle. Switched to full synthetic under a month and rattles gone. Also always ensure that cage on the oil filter cover is never lost. Simple as it looks It ensures the pressure to the vanos systems. |

sexylogan:I'm glad to have come across this thread: I've not owned a car before, but I'm in love with BMW especially 321!, is it wise for me to buy this as my first car? At what range can I get it from tuks or naija used? How is the maintenance, difficult or not difficulty to maintain as a starter. |
| Re: BMW Owners' Forum by drakeskull(m): 12:31pm On Sep 20, 2020 |
pieces18:Strict maintenance is needed for all cars though, bmw maintenance shouldn't be joked with. You can't cut cost. If you want to start as first car, I'll advice you buy later years of E46, don't buy first year. Buy 4 plugs before you start complaining about fuel consumption. Avoid flooded areas as well, use recommended fluids, don't skip service. Parts are not expensive and they are easily seen in the market. |

Hollet:very true. When my bmw arrived, it was low on power steering fluid. I asked around for the type of fluid to use. Everyone said dexron. However, car manual warned never to use dexron. But recommended a particular type of fluid. Bmw users also told me to get ready for power steering rack issues. I went to ladipo and insisted for the recommended fluid. Lo and behold, it was available. Dexron was 2500. Recommended was 5500. This is more than 1yr after topping off. No issues. No leakage. Maintenance with right part is key. |

drakeskull:Good evening, please do you or anyone on this forum have an idea of how much 525i transmission is? Car is giving transmission issue...the mechanic here said fuse burnt..changed and issue still resurface. He is saying there is something he needs to replace in the valve body. I think buying another gear is just better than the trial and error. Please, assist with ur views. |

I have been following this thread silently for months but tonight, I'll bare my Kolaq Alagbo plus Benson & Hedges Switch induced thoughts. I think I am going to suspend my Love & Loyalty for the Bavarian Motor Works until further notice. That Bastard - Stefan Quandt and his sister - Susanne Klatten have wrecked the tradition of the Bmw culture with their "Profit first, Engineering later" attitudes. They keep amassing the Billions while neglecting the Bmw culture. The reviews of Bmws on here & on Edmunds are sickening & discouraging to say the least. I wanted to get upset when I read this review on Edmonds (particularly the emboldened part) but a still voice told me that the guy did not lie. Afterall, Bmw is not my Father's company. ![]() "If you think Lexus couldn't make a proper, fun to drive sports sedan, the latest gen GS350 F-Sport is the one that finally gets it right. Quick, precise steering, grippy roadholding, and an engine that loves to rev and hold gear, is where the story begins. With the F-sport package's 18-way seats to hold you in place, accompanied with bigger brakes, adjustable dampers, and aggressive throttle mapping, "sport +" makes this car feel smaller than it is when you're hustling along. Basically what BMW used to be in its hey-day, Lexus has targeted with this car. It's back seat is a good size, though not as large as say, the current E-class Benz. The mouse based entertainment system takes some getting used to, but works fine otherwise, and voice-command is vastly improved from earlier iterations. The icing on the cake was the price of the '15's. The '16's were trickling in with some minor styling tweaks, but the '15s were thus getting hefty discounts across the board. It made selecting this car a no-brainer." Brethren - Die hard Beemer fans are jumping ships to other reliable brands - mostly Japanese. Here's another review: "As a previous owner of BMW, I think Lexus GS 350 AWD has the right balance of luxury, performance, and reliability. Its cabin is quiet and made of high quality materials. Its ride is plush and comfortable. Its performance, although not quite as good as BMW, but is pretty close. On top of that, you get the excellent reliability of Lexus, which is far better than its German competitor." RELIABILITY! Did you read that? Bmw is a foolish unreliable machine brand. When I remember all the suffering I had to endure in my years of owning & driving Beemers, most times - I knew it wasn't worth it. The overheating part is what I dread the most in all Beemers. Most of the time, as the temperature gauge rises beyond the middle, my blood pressure also rise. And whenever I had to travel from Kano to Kaduna, I would first recite Ifa Corpus & Chapters in Èji Ogbè & Oyeku Mèji before embarking on the journey. ![]() Why? Because if "Oil Seal" no break, Serpentine or Fan Belt must cut. ![]() I now began to wonder if it wasn't my village people that plagued me with the love of Bmw. The one that troubles me the most is the Air-conditioning System. You would take it for repairs today, you drive back home happy with your Moskow Standard chilling, and then, the following day - problem would persist. What about Battery Drain? You park it overnight, and forgot to remove the Battery Terminals, you would surely call on the Battery Charger the next morning. I drove a friend's Lexus IS250 to Abeokuta and I began to contemplate whether the still small voice that has been speaking silently to me to embrace Lexus is not that of Orunmila? ![]() They say Life is a two way street, when you are not sure, you have to trust your feet, To know the right way, you can keep on moving with your head down, or You can stop and take a look around - that's the choice I'm making tonight. Life has taught me on many occasions never to say never - because that biitch always has a way of proving us wrong. I have done so many things that I swore in the past never to do. I remember telling my friends about 15years ago that I would never own or buy any automobile machine beside Beemers - but here I am. Maybe in the not so distant future, when the Millions of Dollars, Millions of Euros & Pounds Sterlings are idling in my Domiciliary Accounts; The Alpina XB7 is one machine I will commandeer from the dealership into my garage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0CpaTF-N5Q But for now, I have to sew my agbada according to my size. Buhari - the senile bastard has pauperized everybody with his trial & error policies - ofcourse, with the exception of the Drug Traffickers & Yahoo Boyz. ![]() And the heroin-snorting Bastard of Bourdillon that foisted this Fulani Terrorist on us is unperturbed with the anti-people policies that are been dished out to us on a daily - but rather warming up to relocating to the Presidency. Ojiji la n gbo iku aro, ojiji ni Buhari ati Tinubu pelu gbogbo awon supporters ma shan ku. Anyways, I will not discourage prospective owners with my bitter tales. Let me just say, I wish all of you goodluck! Goodnight & Sai da safé! |

| Re: BMW Owners' Forum by uboma(m): 2:36am On Sep 23, 2020 |
omoajiri:How's the performance of your 525i been since you carried out the replacement? You got the transmission cheap in Ladipo. |
| Re: BMW Owners' Forum by omoajiri(m): 7:39am On Sep 23, 2020 |
uboma:Car drives as if it just stepped out of the factory! Apart from the regular wear & tear aggravated by our bad roads & environment, I'm shocked at all the issues folks are raising on their cars. I got the car from copart in 2018 & the gear issue was observed from the very first day it landed in Lagos. I however managed it for almost 2 years before it outright replacement. Maybe I'm luck which I pray for it to continue. To jump ship based on reviews from this forum is in contrast to my personal experience. Should I say that the dinosaur (compared to my other vehicles) is one of the very good ones Providence gift me? |

omoajiri:this is what i keep telling people. Buy toks not a badly abused nigerian used bmw. Then give it appropriate maintenance. You will enjoy BMW |
| Re: BMW Owners' Forum by uboma(m): 7:56am On Sep 23, 2020 |
omoajiri:Good review. Thank you for sharing. I have seen some persons who were quick to convert to manual stick instead of replacing their faulty automatic transmission. Have you noticed that all who have complained (except for the one who purchased a lemon, which the seller asked him not to rev the car at the inspection stage) did not list out the BMW cars they owned which gave them unending issues. It is my eighth year of owning and driving different models of BMW cars and I have no plans to change to another brand. |
| Re: BMW Owners' Forum by omoajiri(m): 9:08am On Sep 23, 2020 |
uboma:My rule is if you take good care of your car, it will take care of you. I wasn't so keen on buying a BMW back then but a friend just pushed it on me, he actually forced me to buy it. I was immediately faced with series of problems based on the car being a front end collision salvage buy from copart. While at the Lagos port, a forklift was used to moved the car which in turn cracked the car's gear sump. I replaced that but the gear issue of stalling when it wants to change from gears 3 to 4 upwards still persists until the replacement. Once an issue comes up & I know it will tell on the vehicle's performance, I immediately fix them. My radio/screen isn't working for 7 months now, I was given several options of a bypass or an hack to make it work but I'll rather when the time & money is available, take the car to Ladipo, Lagos and get replacement units for the console. It's hard, needs due diligence, attention & patience but you'll surely enjoy it. |

omoajiri:I agree with you, completely. Take good care of your car, she will never leave you stranded on the road. This rule applies to all vehicles by the way. |
