I sent my child to school to learn and not to celebrate birthdays, I came back from work one day and saw this play station 4 in a carton, I asked them who own. they said my daughter classmates celebrated her birthday and shared these gift to them.

I quickly ask them to reparkage the gift and take it back to the school, before I return from work the next day.

MY REASON IS THIS: all fingers are not equal, when it is my daughter's birthday they would be expecting a gift of equal amount.

The parent may be rich and I am not, they give my child what I can't afford for her which is a recipe for greed. she should be contented with what I can afford,

These her young mind should be moulded early to adapt to reality.

These private schools are encouraging these evil act, it may affect the child tommorow.

This is not right. There are more productive ways to teach them about greed. If their uncle or aunt gave them a PS4 as souvenir for their cousin's birthday, would you ask them to take it back just to teach them your own lesson on greed? You just unnecessarily stifled their happiness for the time being. Poverty chop elbow.

The right thing to do, if you care, is to locate who bought them the gift. Confirm that the person's parent(s) is(are) okay with it lest we have a case of someone using his/her tuition fee or stealing his/her parents money just to impress our of peer pressure.

Well, You know the kind of school you sent your child to, so you shouldn't be suprised or alarmed such is happening. There are schools that all their long vacations must be spent on excursion outside the country. I guess those parents can afford it, and if your child is in such schools and you are trying to preach the morals of contentment there it may be effort in futility.

My advice, if that school is one that encourages "showing off gifts" for school birthdays I advice you take your child away from there to a more modest one especially the one you can afford. your preaching will be met with much resistance from other parents who believe pampering a child with gifts or birthday bashes is what shows that you love the child.

Na wa o...why reject the gift? You could have had a word with the teacher or even seek permission to speak with the celebrating parent. It is well...may God gift us with wisdom jare. Poor children. Both celebrant and your child would feel so bad.

I agree with op. This has nothing to do with inferiority complex. I will be very uncomfortable with that gift and will say as much.

To start with, I will never encourage any parent to expose their children to any gaming device at such a young age. At that developmental level, they may get addicted and can continue with that affliction for life especially now that gaming companies are almost cracking virtual reality.

Secondly, a wanton display of opulence at that age is simply unhealthy. One can be exorbitantly rich but that is no excuse for sheer stupidity.

Final verdict, I will return that gift and warn my child to stay away from that classmate of his.
