Right now, because my interviews were cancelled by NIV, in June, they told me that they would look into reverifying my MRV receipt once US Embassy opens and they've been telling me to wait for an email from US Embassy.

But with this email coming out now, I might as well get a new MRV payment. Does anyone know if this is something I can do? Waiting for a response for something that's taken months right now is too much of a risk.

Bros, you can still enrol into PhD programs.

For instance, If your programs length is 4years or 10years. You will have to renew your visa every Two (2) years.

Was that not the process before now.
But the message says programs that exceed two yeas. PhD excess 2 years. What a confusion !

Please while filling my DS-160 I choose Abuja as my location. Now I want to choose Lagos for interview, would this affect me negatively?

It one country so people are allowed to switch location ... you even had some people who were denied in one then they switched to the other centre and got their Visa

Left to me it's high time they did this. Other countries have the same policy on ground. It doesn't mean you can't be enrolled for courses which take more than 2 years. It only means you have to renew your visa every two years. This should put to check people who mischievously enrol into another program even after their initial program just to remain in the US. I don't see anything wrong with this and it shouldn't cause any panic.

How can this be a good thing ... the US Visa was always issued in 2 years for nigerians. If you were do a 4 years bachelors it was 2 years that was given and effectively if leaving the country yes you had to renew every 2 years

What this does if implemented and hopefully it doesnt get implemented. It means a Nigerians cannot do any program more than 2 years meaning no BSC or PHD. It makes no sense

I disagree. You can renew just like you said. It doesn't mean no PhD or BSc

Time will tell then ...what this actually means. It cannot be just 2 years renewal as you said. That is the standard practise

Guardian and Vanguard has interpreted this new change to mean

Time will tell and everyone will understand. The usual policy is that you renew your stay or update your i-20 after 2 years. All F1 visas for Nigerians are 2years visa while SA is 5years. What it sounds like is that pHd and Bsc may have difficulty in getting visa since the Visa will only be issued for 2years and you cannot renew your stay except for OPT. You don’t renew visa in the same country, you cannot renew your Visa in the USA. But this policy is saying that you have to renew your visa after 2years, that means you have to go back to your country after your visa expiration if you want to continue studying. How is that a good news

You argue too much egbon. With the Visa ban instruction, if implemented, no reasonable vo will grant interview to anyone holding an i20 having to do with a program duration more than two years. Reason it out yourself.

Does this mean that the Embassy is likely to open before these dates?

Friedpotato:
Hello,

You are receiving this email because you requested a student visa interview through our EmergencyLagosNIV inbox during a time which the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos was closed to student visa operations. We have not yet resumed full student visa operations. However, very soon we will publicly release an extremely limited number of student visa interviews, which include the visa classes F, M, J and their derivatives.

These appointments will be on a first-come, first-served basis and are not transferrable. Any attempt to reserve blocks of interviews will be cancelled and the applicant will be blocked from applying in the future. The dates of these interviews are below:

16 October at 7:00 A.M.

23 October at 7:00 A.M.

30 October at 7:00 A.M.

6 November at 7:00 A.M.

13 November at 7:00 A.M.

20 November at 7:00 A.M.

We will be releasing these appointment slots at 9:00 A.M., West African Time on Monday, September 28. At this time, you will be able to go online and schedule an appointment for the dates listed above.

Prior to this date, please complete the following:

Confirm that you have the original I-20 or DS-2019 that was mailed (not emailed) to you by the university or academic institution. An emailed copy will not suffice. Even if the program start date listed on your form has passed, we will still need the original document. If you do not have this document, you visa will be refused.
Pay the SEVIS fee. If your SEVIS fee is not paid and/or you cannot be located in the SEVIS system, you visa will be refused.
If your program start date listed on your form has already passed, you will need to contact your learning institution to update your start date in SEVIS. If the SEVIS system shows that your program start date has passed, you will be refused.
Fill out the DS-160, choose the appropriate visa class and pay the visa application fee.

Please note that these interviews are extremely limited in number, so you will not be rescheduled for any reason. If you can get an appointment, be prepared to present on that date and time with all your paperwork in order.

Additionally, please note that all queries to this inbox seeking clarification or additional information will be deleted and ignored.

Respectfully,

U.S. Consulate General, Lagos, Non-Immigrant Visa Unit

Hi everyone, I have previously submitted my ds-160 form which had the school's resumption date which has passed now. Please, do I need to fill another ds-160 form or can the previous one suffice? By the way, my program has been deferred to spring 2021 but I am yet to receive the new I-20

It will be safer to fill out another DS 160 honestly, but use the same MRV to do that if it hasn't expired. You'll need to wait for the new I-20 and it has to be hard copy and original, not emailed. For your start date, you're fine.

For people like me whose start date has passed, we need to ask our DSO to help change the date.

To the best of my knowledge they aren't accepting new applications. Only issuing emergency travel documents and distributing passports in their possession before the lockdown but I could be wrong.

At last the oracle has spoken.

I could remember vividly i told some people that when embassy open they would want to go for first-come, first-served basis due to the fact that applicant are much and they should try and pay their visa and sevis fee ahead since rush hour mode will be activated and many would want to quickly login and pick dates then I assited fee to pay their sevis fee and they still pay visa fee by going to GTBank.

All the best to those going for their interview soon.

Meet you at the top.

Cheers! Cheers!! Cheers!!!

Hello all.

For someone who already paid the visa fee, and has a valid I-20 (with January resumption date), is it possible to book an interview date before paying SEVIS fee?

I was aware that it’s possible but lately I’ve been seeing some conflicting posts...

I spoke with my school international program officer he said the USICE guideline is that 120s are to be issued via email not posted by mail till further approval from the government. He said they hv issued emailed i20 to many international students who hv obtained th their visa before there fall semester including those from Africa region.

You have to let him know the perculiarities from your end and conviince him you are ready to pay for shipping. It is the same I-20 but this one is just shipped. Meanwhile, use your soft copy to fill your DS form

Yes it’s possible if it’s not emergency date request because for you to get emergency date your sevis receipt is needed.

In my case where i had to defer from fall this year to spring next year, i just recieved my new I-20 via email, can i capitalize on this new development and start by paying the sevis fee?

But sometimes they do ask why you changed venues, and they do this because some believe its easier to get it in Abuja as opposed to Lagos due to the fact that Abuja is not as busy as Lagos.

I think it's due to this covid thing. You should get dates after filling the form.So you might have to be patient then.
