I think it would have been more wise to focus on rail and brt modes of transportation, than to do a bridge and stress the current traffic.

The money you would get from rail ( hopefully affordable) could greatly support the 4th mainland, while you upgrade the existing roads.

Could have focused on consistent and secure rail network.

Rail can support freight and human cargo. It don't have to too fast but it has to be conducive and secure. The freight trains could help the ports and internal heavy movement. Still secure and dependable.

The leader's vision here did not pass the foresight test, from my point of view. This is why he is part of my 2nd tier of Nigerian leaders.

The problem is not even building the roads and bridges, the problem is maintenance. Roads and bridges are very expensive to maintain, and you know we are not blessed in terms of maintenance culture. The federal government spends billions every 5 or so years maintaining the 3rd mainland bridge. Most of Lagos roads and bridges are crying for repairs and you are talking about spending billions of dollars building more roads and bridges.

Railway lines are the least expensive public transportation infrastructure to maintain.

The 4th Mainland Bridge and the Lagos rail are two most important projects any government who wishes to put his name in gold should focus kn.

Anytime I get to Oshodi and I see the interchange, Ambode comes to mind.

We heard the same lies by Fashola in January 2013 about the light rail. How many passengers daily since then carried on the light rail

Lagos light rail’ll be ready in June – Fashola
January 9, 2013

The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said the first phase of the state Blue Light Rail project would be completed by June this year(2013).

He expressed confidence that Lagosians would start enjoying the services of the rail project immediately.

The first phase would run from Marina and terminated at Okokomaiko area in Ojo Local Government.

Fashola spoke during an inspection of ongoing projects in the state which took him and his cabinet members to Orile-Iganmu, Alimosho and Ejigbo areas among others to assess the level of works being done by contractors.

The governor, who inaugurated the trackwork of the blue light rail at Alaba Suru, Coker-Agunda Local Council Development Area, said the level of work on the road and those of the National Theatre and Alaba-Mile 2 rail stations, would ensure early completion

He said, “In order to finish the project, the contractor did not go on vacation during the festive period. This will ensure that the project is delivered on time for the use of Lagosians.

“The first section of this rail, which started from National Theatre, Orile-Iganmu to Mile 2 Bus Stop, would be fully completed with the tracks laid.

“Construction work will continue on the project from Orile-Iganmu to Marina, the expansion work on the road from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko will also be intensified.

“This is what we do with the loan collected by the government. We don’t use our loan to pay salaries and other recurrent expenditure, what we do with our loan is to provide capital projects that would serve the residents.

“When the project is completed, the state would be at par with other major cities of the world.”

I don't usually take the pronouncements of this crop of politicians seriously
But can they use this 'money they don't have' to upgrade and fix all the other roads in Lagos?
Probably fix the schools too?

The guy, like 98% of Nigerian leaders lack basic vision. They are in this leadership posts for money and ego.

Am just praying that Gov umahi don't disappoint me with foolish projects like this. Without vision.

Get the metrolines working first. What is this constant, crazy fetish for roads and more roads for mass transit. No great city can function optimally without track transport.

Have a solid metro line or two running from Lekki the long route to Ikorodu and I bet you folks will transit in no more than 25 minutes which will be far less than it will take even with a fourth bridge.

Urban, major city roads everywhere in the world are recognized as band aid solutions. The moment they are built they instantly become congested. Rail lines however are elastic in capacity with the potential for more trains at very little loss in transit efficiency.

I look forward to thr first Nigerian city state to wake up from infrastructure slumber.

It is Lagos State Government project not federal. They announced some private investors that will fund the project some times ago.

We just have a terrible apathy for doing the right thing is Nigeria. I am not an insider to the rail line project from Nnamdi Zik airport in Abuja to the city centre but what in heavens sake has prevented that line from opening at least to Idu.

The station that was comissioned with so much fanfare is beginning to decay the last time I drove past. If this is an investment that cost the taxpayer so much, then why is it a problem to implement. If it was the personal venture of those in charge, will they abandon it to rot like this.

Otedola cannot win Councillorship election in Lagos. If he wants to close down all his fraudulent businesses, then he can try it. Even his children whose destinies he has used for rituals will all be liberated by the time politicians ate through with him.
