Actually, it depends on where you're publishing and the quality of your work.
For Nigerian journals, most of them accept low quality articles and they hardly do the required peer review, hence they will accept and publish whatever trash you send to them! But you may need to cough out between 20k to 40k naira per article. I will also advice you to patronize only University based journals or a known Society based journals, such as The Mathematical Society of Nigeria.
If your article could scale the rigorous peer review of the international journals such as Elsevier, springer, etc, you may actually choose to publish your article as non-open-access and hence you do not pay for the publication yourself, but the readers of your article will have to pay. If you want to pay then make sure you have up to a million naira in your account grin
Nigerian journals will receive and publish your article within two months while the Elsevier, springer, etc will receive your article get the editor to approve it (like, one month), then send it for peer review (like three to six months) when it comes back from peer review, it may be rejected cheesy If not rejected, you may have one hell of corrections to make, but if you eventually get published, I am assuring you, you will celebrate it cool
No wonder some articles are locked, they ask for a fee to subscribe

Am not trying to discourage you. Go for your masters and make sure u have distinctions in it.i can see that u have passion for lecturing and you are very young at mid 20s Chase it.

There is really no time, so u mean u want to go back and start again just to get a 2.1 ask yourself does it really worth it? My brother move on with that your 2.2 jor just come out with distinctions at masters level you will be qualified to lecture. Yes 2.2 can give you a lecturing job someone gave a testimony in church that he got his lecturing job with his 2.2.

Haven't you read in news that someone burnt his certificate because he is unable to secure a job.
Nigerian lecturer will allow you to come out with a first class not even 2.1 after soughting your courses upandan

If I will advise anybody leaving secondary school.just go for a 4yr or 5yr course.then finish and call yourself a graduate, look inwards, learn a skill/trade,go in business ,discover you potential and be self-employed.otherwise any other things na worthless struggle.....

Wole soyinka graduated with a third class. So just because you graduated with 2.2 doesn't make you any much lesser.
Just ensure you pursue your masters, when you are done, you can start applying for jobs, meanwhile start the process of obtaining your PhD.
If you are fortunate to be employed after your masters, you can continue with the PhD program.
All the best.

No Government University will employ him as an assistant lecturer without masters at least, although with 2.2 and masters you may not get the job under merit, unless you have your PhD then you are qualified.
Secondly Once you are employed as an assistant lecturer, you will start lecturing immediately but taking first and second year students, under the guidance of senior lecturer irrespective of the class you obtained from the University

Well, there are very tenable excuses but they don't even count. The thing is, I'm ready to start afresh, I just want to be sure it's the right thing to do (and the only way out). I actually know a lot of lecturers with 2.2 and even third class, it's just the stiff competition and current unemployment rate that is bothering me.
why you they talk like this start afresh bawo? go for your post graduate in educatiom or go do your msc academics direct . Or go buy laptop you know what that means
Re: I Graduated With A 2.2, How Do I Become A University Lecturer? by samwillyco1(m): 12:50am On Oct 03, 2020
Go for your MSC program and do your best, you can still start afresh if you want to study another course.

With 2:1 you can be an Assistant Lecturer without further qualification (s)

With 2:2 you must have higher qualifications like Msc and PhD to be employed as a Lecturer under merit.

Note: for you to beat somebody with 2:1 , you must have your PhD under normal circumstances which is by merit.

Good luck my friend.

Hi people, I just graduated with a 2.2 in one of the sciences. (CGPA 3.3). I admit that was due to my carelessness. Recently, I have this strong ambition to become a university lecturer and rise to the peak of my career.

Now, these are my concerns. What are the chances of getting a lecturing job (after I might have gotten my PhD) considering the 2.2 Bsc result? Or it
doesn't matter once there are higher qualifications?

Is it worthwhile to sit for JAMB again and start all afresh? I'm still in my mid twenties and the drive is high. I know I can do it, but is it necessary / worth it?
Go and get a master degree and Ph.d

Wole Soyinka never graduated with a 3rd class. Rather he graduated with a 2:1. He has come out to dispell that impression. A google search will suffice on your end.

Some people have offered you valuable susgesstion on going for higher degrees, let me add to that if you are in Health related or Social sciences, key into University of Washington Research trainings, they have two of them, also start to co author with some researchers in your field.

What's the need to just "call one's self a graduate" And you even mentioned that someone recently burnt his certificate but forgot to reason that such burnt certificate must have been a product of going to the university for all the wrong reasons, including just "to call yourself a graduate"!

Nigerians and their misplaced priorities sha.

Don't mind that guy!
Please do not waste your time starting over, instead go for your MSc immediately. While doing your MSc, make sure you learn how to make academic publications in reputable international academic journals, do not waste your MSc project by not publishing it. Publications will give you edge over others during interview.
After the MSc try your luck at some institutions. If there is no luck and you have the means, continue to PhD, but make sure you keep publishing even on your own!
Bros me, no pgde ??

With these you are qualified to be a lecturer.

Don't waste your time and resources on MSc and PhD unless you're able to get employed as GA or any other position in the university despite your grade.

Postgraduate degrees are expensive and there's no guarantee that you'll be employed as lecturer even after PhD. It costs a lot of money to conduct research and to publish it! Where would you be getting all the dollars to buy reagents and to publish in international journals
As far as I'm concerned, MSc and PhD should be undertaken only by those who already have jobs or those who can readily get scholarship awards. Considering your grade, it'll be difficult for you to get scholarship.

It'll even be better for you to apply for direct entry to a course you can readily apply to earn money after graduation.

A word is enough for the wise!

This is purely the reality.
I have worked closely with lecturers and I am an assistant to one. Pursue a gruaduate degree then make sure you get a job first before proceeding to PhD.

I love your motivation! Trust me it’s achievable.

First of all, do your masters in a reputable Nigerian university. You can consider Unilag or University of Ibadan. During your masters degree, ensure you graduate with a good grade and also publish papers in quality journals.

After completing your masters, start looking for scholarships abroad for your PhD. It won’t be a smooth ride but there are better days.

Don’t look down on yourself. Chase your dreams!

Look beyond the four walls of Nigeria
