yap that's one of the huge let down in redmi .. it's so slow and error prone..you got to stop and correct always even with auto correct ...I get you dude ...with time you get use to it .took me a while to get a use to it though 4x was better then compare with the redmi 8 ,note 7 and note 8

And you need to change the keyboard height to mid tall or tall, after this no error persisted

I change reduced animation speed to .x5 and I'm using gboard.

I don't know what concerns OEM and network but I moved into a new environment and I can't get the best out of my mtn network since then. I jejely got Glo and I'm experiencing speed. I suggest u find out the best network in ur area

You can change your region anytime from additional settings.

Themes and others revert if you are using a custom one. Get your theme from the theme app. If you have a font you have applied before ensure you uncheck font before applying the theme.
