An acid test for the police. Now they've got to fish out the shooter and make any example of him in proving what they want their public persona to be. If they won't it will deal a mortal blow to their quest to survive as they are and the DSS should do the needful because the belligerence of the police is becoming a national security problem.
Once more I say, the lack of a properly structured internal security/police system is becoming evident year on year as population index crime escalates, becomes more sophisticated and international. The structures handed down by the colonial authorities of generations past are no longer fit for purpose. Then the police was "a force' with one purpose alone. Put down anti authority groups hard and fast. They were the natural enemies of the people.
Crime of today requires intelligence. Intelligence requires information, information requires infiltration, infiltration requires cooperation with the benefactors of security. The police of tomorrow will have to discard its uniforms, jackboots and assault weaponry. Force cannot and will never prevail over the modern day criminal and criminal organisations.

At least, the so called peaceful protesters have succeeded in taking him down.
I'm an advocate of peaceful protests but among the various problems this country is facing, police brutality shouldn't be one of them.
No one has the monopoly of violence. We all get angry and unable to control our emotions in certain scenarios. Not until you taste power, you won't realize the fact that power intoxicate.
Recently, the Nigerian police sent to every citizens a toll number (like 911) to dail in case of an emergency. Ask yourself, would they have done that if they didn't care for us? How much are you being paid? I'll double it for you to shut up!! 2 Likes |
