I totally agree with you. I worked with an expat in the past and he told me that if you go into a country, her Police force will tell you a lot about the country. He went further to say until we have a professional police force, Nigeria can never achieve meaningful progress.....he told me this over 10 years ago

I have seen someone bailed free and on self recognition. He didn't involve lawyers and any 3rd parties

This may be true but every Nigerian must like people in other climes know the important of both having a family lawyer as well as a family doctor. In the absence of a family lawyer, one should have the number of the large number of legal aid and citizens support groups. Even in the US and UK police sometimes try to get confessions and plea bargains out of suspects when they do not know or when they do not know how to call on legal aid.

Nigerians also should not be afraid of detention. The fear of being inconvenienced or the fear of the unknown is the greatest fuel for police oppression anywhere. Nothing scares police as much as calmness and politeness.

Allow police to do their choppings. Bail is free is not the problem. Bail is just 5k .The problem Is SARS they dont have names to trace, no badge they dont have plate number to track. They dont have uniform. Full blown robbers
Pls allow the police to do their small Choppings. The real. thieves are SARS.

Bail is free but unfortunately, unscrupulous officers still extort suspects and make them pay for 'bail' before they are released.

I agree with you in all, but we also should remember other rotten public offices with state of the act corruption.
The extortions and bribery committed by Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Immigration Services, Prison Officials, PHCN and their Discos, Lecturers, Customs, State Town/Regional Planners are monumental
